  1. Three games in six days, two on the road with only one practice day for each, two highly rated opponents, come away with two wins. Good job team.

Yeah that's what makes the Rutgers and Illinois games hurt so much. We are a whisper away from 20-6 right now and feeling pretty comfortable.

  4. I absolutely love what all you guys do on this thread! You do all the work I'm too lazy to do. You, do, however, realize your work is in vain. The Huskers aren't losing another regular season game and will get to the finals of the B1G Tourney.

  5. Good teams start making wins look routine and expected at the end of the year. We looked like that today. Nice job fellas

  6. I’ve started to follow the metrics and everything a lot more this year. Mostly because of how we’re doing and it’s the first time in a long time that it has affected us. From what I gathered and personal opinion… Your NET ranking doesn’t ranking itself doesn’t really mean squat in determining whether you get in or not. Instead your opponents NET ranking is more important as that determines the Quads which the committee does factor in as. So while it’d be nice to be closer to MSU in the NET, I’d much rather have them where they are and give us a Q1 win. SOR (strength of record) and KPI are result based metrics. Basically how would other teams do with you’re schedule? From what I’ve seen, no team in the last, I think 5, years has been left out with a SOR AND KPI below 45. We’re currently at 39 KPI and 37 SOR. However I’m sure losing a bad game would drop that. Result based metrics are more used in determining who gets in from what I gathered. BPI and KenPom are considered predictive metrics and are used in seeding more so than who gets in. Not saying they don’t have any influence on who is in. These metrics have greatly improved for us in the last few weeks. We were in the 60’s at one point for both and now have both into the 40’s with POM sitting right at 40. Basically our team sheet looks really good right now and I think being considered one of the last 8 teams in stings because of all our metrics. But if you project out the rest of the regular season, it makes sense that we could end up close to the bubble. No real chance to improve the resume and metrics with who is on the schedule. Winning out at home is an absolute must and almost assures us no Q3 or Q4 losses. Then winning 1-2 on the road does a couple of things including helps the Nebraska doesn’t win away from home narrative and gives us another Q2 win or two.

  7. This. And I know the Ohio State game stings because it was such a beatdown, but I feel like after the big Iowa win, we were going to have a tough game next time out. I'm glad it was OSU because we likely weren't going to win that game anyway (they are an excellent team, plus it was on the road), and I'd much rather lose to the true #2 team in the nation than, say, go to Illinois and lose to them.

  8. To me beating IOWA in front of a full house on national tv made my year. Especially holding Clark scoreless in the 4th qtr for the first time in her career.

  10. #@(@$@!! Well, I expected 1-2 but this is a 1-2 kick in the nuts, as we should've split the last two games at worst. Those 2 losses are going to haunt if we're playing well in May. I'll stay positive, even though I'm not really in the mood to be. Tech and Oklahoma are really good. For us as a northern team to challenge those two on opening weekend like we did -- and outplay them for long stretches -- was really good. We definitely took advantage of being able to be outside quite a bit before going to Texas. We were really good most of the weekend without getting anything from our 4-5-6 hitters, which is encouraging, as those guys are going to get it going. The Ks are a significant concern on offense, as well as the lack of clutch hitting, but we are finding ways to manufacture runs, which is important. The bats will get going as the season goes along, they always do, and we had some good velocities off the bat that resulted in outs. But we have to cut down on Ks when we have power limitations. 8 free passes today from our pitchers = loss. For the weekend, 11 walks/HBP vs 28 Ks is solid, though, especially considering the level of opposition. Things weren't quite as sharp on the mound today, but I still think we're in good shape depth-wise there. Wouldn't surprise me to see Timmerman get a start vs GCU, as neither Clark nor Christo were too good today. We'll need 4 starters the next 2 weekends, so it's a good chance to give Timmerman a shot. Another tough weekend on tap as GCU can play. 2-2 would be a good weekend, but I'll hope for more.

  12. I think our fans are overrating our quality wins. Yes, the Purdue win stands out, though like it or not it comes with an asterisk of being at home. Beyond that our best wins are average or even mediocre when compared to other bubble teams’ best wins. Most bubble teams have a great road win or two, which trumps our home wins vs Michigan State and Wisconsin. The committee loves to reference a team’s ability to win away from home. Unfortunately that’s a major knock against us unless we turn that statistic around these next few weeks. I still think the target is pretty simple: 21 wins to feel decent; 22 to feel comfortably in.

  13. Anderson said he inadvertently blew his whistle. So jump ball, possession arrow Iowa is the right call apparently. What’s odd is the other ref hadn’t even handed the ball to the inbounds passer yet, so I’m not sure an inadvertent whistle even matters there.

I only saw Britt play once at last year’s State semifinal. She dominated the game with her court vision, passing, basketball acumen and shooting. Her size is nice for a point guard. I believe she will leave Nebraska with her number added to the rafters at PBA.

  16. I’m pretty sure with the developments of two extraordinarily skilled 5s who get massive NIL deals and an offense that runs through them that finding skilled 5s in the portal becomes Fred’s new Transfer U signature. I might be wrong but I think this is just going to be something we do now. Mast is incredible in our system.

  17. Phenomenal effort today. Allick’s rebound in the corner among three PSU guys, where he had seemingly no shot to get to the ball and got there anyway, was a top 5 play for me this year. Great team rebounding overall. Hoiberg is such a great defender. Best perimeter defense since Strickland imo. This isn’t the most talented NU team I’ve seen, but they do have talent. What they definitely are is the smartest NU team I have EVER seen. When a team has this kind of IQ and fundamentals, they win games like this one, in this fashion. They really, really know who they are.

  19. Ugh - sucks to lose that game when we had so many chances, but it's hard to be discouraged after outplaying a high-level southern team for 8 innings and having the baseball gods give them quite a few breaks. Pitching staff is way ahead of where I'd have guessed they'd be. Hitters are still adjusting, but I think there are some dudes that will develop in that lineup. Really sucks that Worthley had such a rough outing - he was nails all fall and has been great in the preseason in the spring. I think he was pretty close to getting the ball to start today instead of Walsh. Speaking of, wow, Walsh was good today. Love our pitching depth. Childress is making a big difference already ... and I'm not one that completely disliked what Christy was doing. I mean, he did coach 4 pitchers who were taken in the Top 10 rounds of the draft. Still, Childress is just on another level, and it's obvious already. Tomorrow will be interesting. We'll see what Clark has. OU can really run, so having the lefty in there to keep the running game down should help. Would be awesome to come home 2-1. EDIT: OU with the short, short turnaround - but they'll be feeling pretty good after beating Tennessee 5-1 in 10 innings late last night. Hopefully they're still celebrating this morning.

  20. That is the inconsistency of this team. We can go from looking like a 4 seed to a 10 seed. It is what is so tough on us fans.

  21. We beat Oklahoma State to win the Big 8 Tourney on a Sunday. Of course, we went to a Thursday game. Doesn't matter this year. We win 2 games minimum whether its play-in, or sweet 16 or both. It will happen this year!

If the Big 10 tournament generator is accurate, the only tiebreaker we lose is a head to head loss. Our Purdue win would trump all else.

  33. Great question. I kinda think there is a mixture. She is extremely athletic, she has a certain aura surrounding her and she is an energizer bunny that can go, and go and go. She goes to the rim, has an above average shot and passes well. She currently is not sn elite defender. Her 3 point shooting is not yet compatible with Clark. She needs to improve her strength as well. So how does she compare...hmm.

So, what you are saying is we are a top 50 team with the potential of being in the sweet 16 if we continue to improve, and peak at the right time. I am a fan, and that possibility sort of geeks me out.

  37. GBR!! Alexis was a beast! Wonder when the last time a women's player had 20+ for pts. and rb's. The fight she shows on the court (not meaning the incidental punch) shows true leadership folks! A bigger victory point wise and a better game after a slow start against PU than our home W. Couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Keep it going gals!

  38. Honestly, the longer we go into the season, the more this thread is feeling like it’s moot! We control our own destiny. We don’t “need” to follow other bubble teams just yet and should we do what we need to, we won’t have to.

  43. What a tough shot. He seemed more focused on drawing a foul than actually making it. Bummer. Good news is K-State didn’t even move down in KenPom. Overall a great morning for us though. Wake loses, Butler and A&M get smoked. And of course, our clobbering.

  46. Not to mention every team has story lines. Cant think just because we have Tominaga and haven’t won a game they’ll let us in. They don’t care about any of that when they’re setting the seed list. Northwestern was a media darling when they made it because literally every sports journalist went to Northwestern.
