Coming from one of the NU assistant coaches, it sounds very promising we might get Javian McCollum. As far as Hunter Sallis, he is 60/40 to come to NU. Sounds like he wants to commit but his mom is against it and wants him to go to a bigger name school. NU staff thinks if they can get Javian to commit, it might help get Hunter to commit after that. Stay tuned as things could get very interesting especially if we have more than 2 kids wanting to come to NU as we'd need to have a current scholarship player leave.

One thought to the "point guard" debate. So much depends upon the offense being run. In Fred's offense it does not appear necessary to have the prototypical point guard. An initiator of the offense is not an individual responsibility. Rather it is predicated upon numerous factors and situations. I guess the biggest roles of a PG is being the eyes, ears and voice of the coach on the floor. A genuine leader so-to-speak. To me Verge and Mack were failures in that role, where players like Sam and Jeter were more successful. So long story short, Sallis could be successful. QM and Ramel could be successful as well...time will tell. And oh yeah, if we worry about breaking a press; a dribbling point guard, flittering through a press is somewhat archaic. A point forward (such as Walker or Pike) seems more successful, or at least it has worked best for us. Or, schematically busting a press is back breaking to a pressing team. Seems like Fred knows what he wants, and I hope he finds the right mix.

  8. I don't really want to get in the middle of a pissing contest but what difference does it make if Alberts had anything to do with it or not. For whatever reason a player or coach leaves you need to replace them with a better one. Take a step up the ladder with the replacement. Amy now has that chance. Anxious to see how it comes out.

Looks like a guy who we’d want taking Wilhelm’s pick and pop shots from the top of the key.

  11. I will just come out and say it, as the worst thing that can happen is he drastically changes and proves me wrong - but I think it's pretty clear Wilhelm was a miss and a bad evaluation. I know he has been injured, but I just do not see it. Seems like an absolutely great, team first, hard working dude - appreciate everything he's done and given. Just don't see the skill base or athletic ability. Not at this level at least. And I do remember, when he was finishing up High School, someone actually posted a link to one of his games, and I remember being super hesitant when I actually saw him play in a live, full game.

  16. That's probably true. Although Bradley fans are hopeful he will develop into a higher level than Nebraska... Unfortunate reality is that mid majors are becoming the developmental league for P5/6 schools. All that said how about a home and home series with the Braves .

  20. In no way do I want to be overly critical of a player and I want it to be clear I think Wilhelm is a great dude, love his effort, and think he could provide valuable minutes. I do want to clarify, because I didn't say it earlier, but I want him here. But I do want to get it straight what you're saying here.... Wilhelm was billed as a versatile swing 4 - but you want him to not shoot corner 3's or attempt to take guys off the dribble? And I also, I think we would all agree, he hasn't shown much knack for being a back-to-the-basket big - right? So you just want him to be a rim defending, rebounding, 5-man, roll guy? Again, if that's all you think he is, I think there's was a real miss and poor evaluation of his skills and ability for this level. For him to be effective - I think he HAS TO be able to do the things you said you want him to stay away from.

  25. I’m usually right with you on player evaluations but I disagree on Wilhelm. Has been hurt both of his off-season here and this last year was basically his freshman year. on offense I think he could do some things very well for us but needs to stay away from the corner 3s and trying to take guys off the bounce. Needs to stick to shooting top of the key 3s, picking and rolling, and crashing the offensive boards. on defense he plain and simple needs to get better at defending on the block, he’s always gonna be a liability on the wings. There’s also something to be said for experience in our system imo

  28. Not fair for Aurora, Hampton had a kid that went on to finish second in the long jump in Class D. They never had a chance. Hampton did win the Hamilton County tournament in 1940, but they did not beat Aurora to do so - the runner-ups did. I think Aurora learned their lesson after that and quit playing other teams from the county.

  29. Did he tell me directly, of course, no, but by the same token, he has already done that in football, basketball and several other mens and womens sports since he came here. Getting assistant coaches, and head coaches replaced. And to turn your statement around, what proof do you have...that he didn't ? Again, it can't be ignored, we know he has already done it in many sports at NU in the short time he's been here. And you say Goehle may be tired of coaching, ...how do you know? If you'all really might think Athletic Director Alberts is doing nothing with the women's basketball structure.....sorry, but just don't buy that thought process. You have to ignore the obvious. That's just the way I see it. Don't want or expect everyone to agree. So it is what it is.

  31. Just remember. In January the NCAA approved hiring 2 more assistants to both MBB & WBB coaching staffs. Those positions cannot recruit. Plenty of opportunity going forward to revise your staff. I'm sure by this time Amy knows what is needed and is putting a plan together with the idea to be more competitive.

He has no control over it. He's under the Hampton curse. For those of you who live in Omaha and think Seward is western Nebraska, Aurora and Hampton are in the 330 mile marker range on I-80. 6 miles apart. Back in my days of growing up in Hampton, our population was 400, Aurora about 9 times bigger. So, they're Class B, we're Class D. No chance to ever play in high school sports. American Legion baseball was a different story. After several years of Aurora telling us to go away, they agreed to play us in 1978. We played them at Mitchell Field in Aurora. Both had our aces on the mound. (As an aside, I was the right fielder in the game), we won 3-1 or 4-2 something like that. Here's my point: as royalfan has stated before, Aurora and Hampton have never been Creighton towns. Scheierman will never win against the Huskers because of what we did back in 1978. He has the weight of losing to a "perceived" lesser program on his shoulders. I bet he loses twice to the Huskers next season...

  42. I think we agree on the missed evaluation outta high school, he was a top 100 or close to top 100 prospect for that cycle if I remember right? I was more so saying we want him here as a rotational big guy. we don’t exactly get a lot of 6’10 guys who are possibly comfortable playing 15 minutes a night(maybe he’s not comfortable with that tho). I don’t think he needs to shoot corner 3s to be an asset to us either, feels like he was 0 percent on those last year lol. He needs to be able to finish around the hoop better(I think the ability to do that is there) needs to be a threat from the top of the key 3 point wise, needs to rebound on both ends of the floor. Then needs to figure out how to not get his lunch ate on the defensive side of the floor. Could he be a Ubel 2.0 for us? I was pretty young while he was here but I seem to remember him being pretty rough as an underclassmen then blossomed into a pretty good big guy for us by his senior year. if we are counting on him to play 30 minutes a game this coming year we will both agree that we are screwed. If he’s out 3rd or 4th big(depending on keita) I think we are in pretty good shape. Again I value the familiarity with the system and the hope that a full off-season will do him wonders.

    23-24 Roster (updated)

Expected 8-man rotation is starting to shape up. If our current roster was our final roster, I see a pretty clear distinction between guys we are comfortable with being in the rotation vs guys we'd prefer to be situational. Rotation: Keisei Tominaga Juwan Gary Blaise Keita Rienk Mast Brice Williams Jamarques Lawrence Ramel Lloyd Quaran McPherson Lawrence and Lloyd give you combo guard minutes, while Keisei is a pure 2 and Q is (supposedly) a pure 1. Brice is your starting 3 but can give you minutes at the 4 if you want to put an extra guard on the floor. Gary is your starting 4. Mast I would assume is your starting 5, particularly with Blaise's health concerns likely limiting his usage rate. Situational: Eli Rice - TBD. CJ Wilcher - extra shooter who will get minutes when hot and sit when cold, similar to how his usage fluctuated at the end of the season Wilhelm Breidenbach - extra big for when Keita is hurt or we get into foul trouble What is interesting is who gets bumped out of the regular rotation with more signings. An extra big does seem needed with Blaise being the new Chris Balham. That essentially would make a 9 man rotation when Blaise is healthy and an 8 man when he's not. But a PG signing would likely push Q to a situational role. Two guards would bump Q and...who? Not Keisei, obviously. Lloyd has been hyped up to the point that it would be surprising if he isn't in the rotation. Lawrence sure seemed more and more solid as the year progressed. That makes an interesting problem, with a lot of good-but-not-great guards vying for the same minutes.

Curious why Javian coming here would help get Hunter? Doesn’t Hunter want to play PG? Or does he prefer to play more off guard next to Javian? I know Hugely has question marks but part of me thinks another big could be crucial. I would love all 3 and would be ok to see someone like Breidenbach or Wilcher move on.. if they add another PG, I could see Quaran bounce. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I may be in the minority here but I don’t want a PG in training. Hunter may very well develop into a playmaking PG but I’d really like to see another established PG as well.
