  1. I have met several Iowa fans and would beg to differ.

  2. Just thought I’d throw this out for appreciation: NU is completing their 12th season in the Big Ten conference. Only twice before have they won at least 8 games in conference: 2017-18 (Miles): 13-5 2013-14 (Miles): 11-7 (made NCAAs) These are our conference records in the Big Ten: 8-10 (current) 4-16 3-16 2-18 6-14 13-5 6-12 6-12 5-13 11-7 5-13 4-14 Even if we lost these last two regular season games, this will be - by percentage- our third-best Big Ten in history. For a team that lost so much off a bad team from a year ago, has lost multiple starters for the season this year, and has been forced deep into their bench and even walk ons…that is amazing. You can make arguments about relative conference strength year to year, but the bottom line is we always measure ourselves against our peers. And by that metric this is the third best season in the last dozen years. Carry on. RDK

  3. I say we shouldn't leave anything up to chance next year. Go 20-0 in the Big Ten and guarantee a home game in the first round of the NIT!

  5. Not to try to hijack the Kenpom thread with too much discussion about NET, but do you all remember when the NCAA introduced the whole notion of Quad wins/losses? The idea was to encourage teams to schedule tough games. Not to pad their resumes with a bunch of wins over cupcakes and patsies. Schedule tough. Get wins over good teams; don't lose to bad ones. So, right now, Nebraska sits at #92 in the NET. We have seven Quad 1 and 2 wins. We have zero Quad 3 and 4 losses. Right ahead of us at #91 is James Madison. They have zero Quad 1 wins; two Quad 2 wins; two Quad 3 losses; and FOUR Quad 4 losses. So, they have NO really good wins and FOUR really bad losses. And they're ahead of us. Don't try to explain to me how the NET algorithm works. I don't care. Their algorithm is clearly broken.

  6. HCFH: "Hello, this is Fred Hoiberg." P5: "Yeah, hi, coach, it's Parker Friedrichson. Crazy turn of events with Coach Forbes leaving Wake to take over for Fran McCaffrey at Iowa, so looks like I'm on the market again, and ..." HCFH: "I'm unable to get to my phone right now, so please leave me a message and I'll get back to you when I can. Beeeeep." P5: "Coach, I know you're there; I can hear you breathing on the line." HCFH: "No, you can't! I mean, leave a message." [click]

  7. Oh, gawd, you mean right after Parker Friedrichson commits to Wake Forest? Would he have to decommit AGAIN?

And, if haven't watched the media interview with Derrick Walker, Sam Griesel, and Emmanuel Bandoumel, go & watch it. That's the epitome of team-focused basketball. Those 3 are leaving their legacy as an imprint on the NU culture. Wish Sam & Manny could have been here for more than one year. Glad D-Walk came back & rehabbed himself well enough in time to make a big impact this year.

    Big Ten Tournament

I would love to see the Iowa-loses-out and Nebraska-wins-out scenario.

  11. I contend that the pivot and step through move prevalent in the women's game the last couple of years is textbook traveling, but everybody is doing it now and it is not called. I've even seen it a couple of times in men's games. Once the pivot foot has been established and you hold the ball and spin this way and that, you can't lift that pivot foot unless jumping with both feet. When the long step is taken to get around the defender and the pivot foot is lifted with the ball still in the hand, you've essentially established a new pivot foot without dribbling. It's no different than shuffling the feet after a pivot foot is established. Basically impossible to defend and should be eliminated from the game. Some may argue it's like the euro-step, but it's not.

Excellent article. For those that opined about his five game absence at the beginning of the season, the rumors are dispelled here. Heck of a man and player! He has been a pleasure to watch and will be missed on multiple levels. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/how-nebraskas-derrick-walker-got-out-of-the-dark-place-and-began-playing-his-best/article_47d9c093-3635-5a00-a965-93f4b26d8c89.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=user-share

  14. Does Michigan State get in with an 18-12, 10-9 finish (which would assume a loss to NU, win vs OSU)? Or do they need to win 19? In that case do we see Pfeiffer, McJunkins, and Boroski?

  17. People will hate this comparison but his film reminds me of Kalkbrenner from Creighton. He is skinnier and more mobile but basically does the same things: protects the rim, finishes around the rim on feeds from his teammates, and generally seems to have very good timing on blocking shots. Neither guy seems to have polished post moves. He *might* have better shooting range than Kalk. Hard to tell after a couple short clips. All that said, would LOVE to have a rim protector like young Mr. Bol in this defense we play now (or at any other time I suppose). When is the last time we had a guy like that? Kimani Ffriend? I hope he had a great time visiting this weekend.

  18. Four more wins only gives us a 40% chance. To get to 4 more wins, we would have to either ... Lose our next two games to the NET #33 team at home and #43 team on the road, finish as an 11 or 12 seed, and then reach the Big Ten Championship game; Win one of our next two games to the NET #33 team at home or #43 team on the road, finish as a 10 seed, and then reach the Big Ten Championship game; or Win our next two games to the NET #33 team at home and #43 team on the road, finish as a 10 seed, and then reach the conference semifinals. To get to five more wins, we'd almost have to win the Big Ten tournament title. And they're saying that only gets us a 91% chance of getting in? Sounds about Nebrasketball.

I'm not so sure about that. At least prior to this Michigan State game. 18 wins, we're likely in the conversation. 19 and you have a very very strong case. Unless you're confident blue blood UNC type of teams will forever be ahead of a team that won 8 of their last 10 games and deep into the BTT. If we lose to Michigan State on Tuesday? Yeah, you're probably right.

Yeah, lots of opinions/rumors at the beginning of the year. Glad the real story came out and proud that he opened up about it. He didn’t have to, but he did. Mental health is no joke and it’s very real. Wish nothing but the best for him in his future

    In state kids?

I have no idea if Wes Dreamer (Elmwood-Murdock, Lincoln East, Northwest Missouri State) will jump into the portal for his fifth year, but if he does I think they'd want to look at a local kid that already has two national titles (or maybe three if you count being ranked #1 when the postseason got cancelled).

  27. Attended the game today esp. to see Sam, Issie and Jaz honored. We'll see what the Aussies decide ultimately. Also didn't know if I'd see another game this year, since I'll be at work Thur. and Fri. during the day. Will have to DVD and see how it turns out. MSU will be really tough of course so as another alluded to we will really have to be sharp and focused in our play. Perhaps a win Thur. will be enough to get us in? Would have to be very few upsets in conf. tourneys I think for that to happen. It certainly wasn't pretty but glad to get the W. Looked a bit like playing a Rutgers game. NU did enough to pull away and take the suspense out of it late. Will need to play quite a bit better I suspect to win on Thurs. GBR!!

  30. Red Don mentioned it, but saw another reference. Per the On3 site, neither Shelly nor Bourne have made final decisions. Also, not sure where I read it, but there might be a NIL work around being looked into.

  36. The RAC may have a reputation as being a tough place to score, however Pinnacle Bank this year has been less kind to conference foes. Teams are shooting 30.6% from 3 (4th in conf), 44.4% from 2 (1st), and have an eFG % of 45.1% (2nd).

  41. The way we are playing we could make a run in the BIG tourney. A lot of it will depend on matchups. We don’t seem to do well against Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Northwestern. It will be interesting to see how the final standings shake out.

  42. Another win against Minnesota (or any bottom feeder teams in conference) isn't going to move the NIT needle. There is more downside to playing in the first day than upside.

  43. Have to give Fred credit for throwing his son out there instead of pulling a couple of redshirts. On a similar note, if Johnny Trueblood had averaged 20 minutes a game in January and February of 2019 instead of playing a total of 7 minutes in that stretch, that team probably wins a couple more and ends up in the NCAA Tournament.

  44. I don't think they'll back off - there's supposed to be a visible clock at every park, so everyone can see when the violation happens. That means it's not a judgment call, so umps will have to enforce it all the way through the season, or they'll get an earful from the other dugout. As players get used to it, violations will be far less, though, I'd imagine.

  46. With Tuesday night being senior night, I wonder if we will get a big clue what Keisei's intent is for next year. It's not uncommon for non-seniors to participate if they know they are done and will be playing professionally. Maybe that's also why Keisei's family is in town? Just a thought.
