  1. It's times like these where a person needs his girlfriend by his side. Traudt to Lincoln makes perfect sense. He's close enough when they want to see each other. Far enough away when they don't. After 32 years of marriage, I think I'm an expert on the subject.

  2. Since the season is now over, I just wanted to share something I’ve been putting together the last month or so. I thought this would be cool to put together and hang up somewhere in my home.

  3. Here is the break down of the point scored in paint AM = 6 Izzie = 10 Sam = 14 Annika = 4 Kendall = 2 Maddie = 4 So the bigs score 20, and the rest scored 20. Seems to me that the BIGS held thier own. Also Missouri State was the 9th leading team in the nation in offensive rebounds.

  4. What did you see that you would define as embarrassing? I thought there was a feeling out period against a fairly solid team. We played a bit tight, but that is not entirely unusual for a first round tournament game. But I really am interested in what embarrassed you? A few other thoughts. Sam really handled her assignments (offensively and defensively) well. We certainly lost the rebounding battle, as they crashed hard to the boards; however, that said, we seemed to control the scoring in the paint. Their coach stated that our post players did a good job posting low and their defenders got caught behind our post players. Lastly, we basically had a 10 point win while shooting badly from the arc. That, in and of its self, is a bit encouraging.

This is me on the football side, after the power s to be fired Frank, I lost all investment in football. And similar to womens basketball. The wife and I didn't miss a game when Yori was coach. Now it is a coin toss, on whether we go or not.

  8. Not to derail too much, but Hoiberg is a proven P5 coach, Frost was not. If the decision is to dip into a coaching search, then choosing a P5 assistant and mid-majors head coach would be just as much of a risk as finding another Frost. I'm still on the Trev train right now. He's shown more initiative for this program than a few ADs before him in this short time. So whatever decision he goes with, that's fine by me. But I'm sure he's been thinking two steps ahead since he had his last performance review with Hoiberg.

Curtis Moore was da’ man! I remember sitting behind the bench and Curtis was on the bench resting. Moe was focused on “getting the ball into Dave” so much he forgot he had subbed him out over 3 minutes ago. Crowd was getting restless as our lead fittled away. I yelled “Put in Curtis” and immediately Moe yells for Curtis to go back in the game, the student section cheered and Curtis gave me a look back as he headed to the scorers table

Kenny Walton did. Handy went to SWMS with Charlie Spoonhour. Charlie Spoonhour, who went 373-202 with 3 NCAA Tournament wins, who might have been the most successful head coach who ever worked here.

That's part of it, but the bigger fault lies in all the money sloshing around in college sports. It starts with school administrations, conferences and coaches and filters down. The parents and guardians get stars in their eyes because they see the money out there and want their slice of the pie.

  17. 23 to 8 on offensive rebounds for the game. Didnt defend 3pt line in the first half. Silly turnovers in the first half. But I will admit in the 2nd half I thought we played well and played rough as well. I am not sure I would say we controlled the paint. It was pretty even to me. I am not sure I would consider Sams 7 layups as part of controlling the paint. Thank Gosh for Sam though slashing to the hoop. At one point I looked up and AM had 1 rebound in the middle of the 3rd Qtr but she ended on a good note in the 2nd half. Our post moves are just not there. AM does a lot of movement waist up but the footwork is something else. If an assistant could get the footwork there like Holmes and Czinano she will be unstoppable We seemed to look good at blocking out last night but then no one went for the ball which in turn lead to offensive rebound. I would take their #5 in a heartbeat on the team. She was fun to watch.

Similar to my feelings. I used to enjoy the feeling of loyalty to the school and the process of a kid developing over 4 years. Those elements are gone. I’ve already dialed back on pro sports because so much of it is talking about salary caps, restructuring contracts, blah, blah, blah. Now, college sports is a bunch of crap about NIL, portals, blah, blah, blah. I’m not ready to quit on Husker hoops just yet, but the emotional investment just isn’t what it used to be. Idk, maybe I’d feel differently if we actually won something.

I wonder how this will affect the sport, concerning being a fan, into the future. The reasons I personally grew to love it are no longer there. Is the next generation of fan going to be able to foster the same type of attachment? The hooks are already in for me and the rest of us.

  29. I have been a fan since the late 70’s and have always thought the next season will be the year the Huskers win a NCAA tournament game, since that has not happened, Huskerhoops reminds me of this phase: (free beer tomorrow). Unless Fred can bring in multiple top 100 freshmen or proven transfers this program will not make the NCAA tournament, hopefully the 1890 nil collective will help with recruiting. Only 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 23 years is not acceptable from a power 6 program, with resources.

  32. Good, hard-nosed ballgame, which is the type of game that Nebraska seems to have had difficulty finishing. Just glad NU got it done tonight. Nice to see Haiby with 25. She'll be missed for sure. Wish Weidner well in her recovery, she will have to take minutes up that Sam has been playing lately. Hope Shelley & Bourne both come back in 2023-24! GBR

    Forecasting 2023-24 lineup

Not specifically, although the last word i got was positive about Kesei coming back. That's not "take it to the bank" or "done deal" type of stuff. But I heard a relatively decent number on what it would take. We would have no trouble coming up with it if we can work out the legalities. I don't know that they're counting on getting the rules changed in time. Perhaps more of an interpretation of "international students can't receive money while here" kind of thing, and perhaps the endorsement side. I think there is confidence they can make it work even without a rule change, but I don't know the details.

We'll always have those sweet finishes in that one game. But ultimately if you can't shoot you're a liability on the floor with everything we're trying to do. Mostly everyone on the court has to be guarded or what we do doesn't work with the back-cuts, curls, flares.

  40. I’m expecting Tominaga to move on which means we are again having to flip a good chunk of the roster. Good luck Fred With that said, I’ve heard some names rumored that may hit the portal with NU being a landing spot. Some local kids. I’m taking it with a grain of salt as good things rarely happen with this program.

    Forecasting 2023-24 lineup

Not at all how it works. Matt Davison (not "Davidson") is an employee of 1890. It is not "Davison/1890". The Peeds own it and fund a bunch of it. People with Matt paranoia or disdain overstate his role. There are numerous people involved, at multiple levels (both paid employees such as Joe Selig, and volunteers who help with the asks). While they want to broaden the donor base, like anything else, a few big hitters are giving lots of money. Some are more inclined to support basketball than others. 1890 and those involved know who those folks are (you can see some of them in the Nicolson seats at PBA). When those asks are being made, specific players are discussed, and what it might take to get them. These conversations are not directly involving Fred or Trev, and can't. Yes, there are funds being raised for just basketball. No, Davison can't just unilaterally decide to choose between a football and basketball recruit. Say, for example, a couple of bigs currently on the east coast have expressed interest in transferring. And they are established, really good bigs (stay tuned). People (way beyond Matt) know what it might cost, and the feasibility of raising it. Let's say a certain bigshot gave $50k for the basketball collective last year. Someone is talking to that bigshot now saying "we need $100k now. We can get player X but need the money."

  43. Here’s the formula to dancing. Schedule 3 tough non-con games. Win one, in the other 2 slow the game to a snails pace so your 4 point defeat is a NET dream scenario. Go .500 in B1G play. Most importantly - beat the absolute pants off the scrubs on your schedule. I’m talking all gas, no brakes, full speed, beat downs. Make their coach complain to ESPN after the game that you were full court pressing up 35.

    In state kids?

So quick follow up question. Other then the shot clock in Class A, what are the HS rule changes in the last 10 to 15 years? I contend there haven't been significant rule changes; rather, the interpretation of the rules is the significant change. If so, reevaluate and start enforcing that contact is a foul, anywhere on the court, and the player who initiated the contact receives the call. Once the initial shock and awe is absorbed by coaches and players, the game will be cleaner, faster with much more scoring.
