13-5 through 18 games -- I don't think many would have predicted this at beginning of season. Yeah, there are different ways to get there, but whatever. Right now, it feels like season ended last night, but we all need to relax a little; this is not college football. You can have several bad losses and still achieve an end goal. Mast -- he needs to fix what happened last night quick. Cliff pushed him around, and if word gets around that that can happen, other bigs will do that for rest of year. I trust he will fix that against NU on Saturday. If we win Saturday (I think we will), we will be 14-5, 4-4, and in prime position going down the stretch. 3 of our 4 toughest conference games will be out of the way. I think only sure loss is @ Illinois. All other games are winnable. Just need to hang in there.8 points -

All the recent speculation regarding an Achilles tear has caused me to remember my own relationship to the diagnosis. Two of my sons have had that problem in their forties caused by Pius alumni games, and I did witness the end of a pro football career after one (No, it wasn't Aaron Rogers). In the summer of 1967, the Chiefs played an exhibition game against the L.A. Rams. They were still smarting from their loss in Super Bowl I and had annihilated the Bears in their first exhibition. The Rams were led by their "Fearsome Foursome" defensive line of Merlin Olson, Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy, and Rosey Grier. It was a highly anticipated game and the bar around the corner at 39th and Rainbow called Jimmie's Jigger was even having a "Ram Roast" to celebrate. Just before halftime, Grier tore his Achilles, and never played another game. (The Chiefs won, by the way). Rosey didn't miss a beat and became a successful celebrity later. He was the person who disarmed Sirhan Sirhan after RFK's assassination. He then starred in many tv shows and movies as an actor. His highlight film was "The Thing with Two Heads", a 1972 stinker featured on Svengoolie last year. The other head was Ray Milland, if anyone is still interested. Stay warm, everyone.5 points -

The Buckinghams are an American pop band from Chicago. They formed in 1966 and went on to become one of the top-selling acts of 1967, charting their only five top 40 hits in the U.S. that year. The band dissolved in 1970, but re-formed in 1980 and as of 2022 they continue to tour throughout the United States.3 points -

I don't think they were influenced by the crowd at all. I think they were just a bunch of pf*cking crooks. It's easy to start playing like sh*t when the officials let your opponents play hockey while they force you to you play tiddlywinks. Yes, Nebraska should have won anyway, but the pf*cking game was pf*cking pfixed. If we ever try to field a team of goons like this Rutgers squad and play that style, we'd have 12 guys foul out every night.3 points -
Maybe the refs were influenced by Pickel's technical, since it was his first of the year. Many coaches seem to think that technique works, although we all know our Big Ten crews suck because of incompetence rather than bias.3 points

Raycom and the Phillips 66 brand bring back a lot of great memories of the good ole days of Nebraska basketball. Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately!), these were during my most formative years and cemented me as a lifelong suffering fan. I can't remember who the regular tv play by play guy was but I can still hear his voice and thought he was great. Good times and memories.3 points -

well I finally got over the sadness of it all and rewatched OT since I had somewhere to be wed night and missed it... holy sh#t was the officiating horrible. dont know how many bad fouls they called on us and how many missed calls there were for them but it was enough to piss me off all over again. specifically both of the and 1's rutgers post player got (MAYBE one of them was actually an And1) after either going over the back or just forcing/pushing our guy out of the way. then throw in kick balls not called and the shove in the back of BWill for them to get another OReb and foul call. I mean im just rambling at this point but man that was tough to watch. kind of glad I missed it live. oh yeah and the defender didn't give keisei room to land on his last second 3 but hey that one wasn't as blatant I suppose. Hate complaining about refs cause its annoying but damn seemed like they wanted rutgers to win that one. On the other hand, glad our guys continued to fight and shoutout to Sammy H on those clutch 3's after a not so great game by him. Pumped to go to my first game this season tomorrow3 points -

The refs allowed it to become a brawl on the boards, but we didn't rise to RU's level of intensity and physicality. We've got a lot of veteran players - we have to understand how the game is being called and adjust. Of course, losing our 'dawg' was a huge contributing factor as well. I think we really needed our big guys to hit 3s like we did vs PU - pull the shot blocker away from the rim more often and open up driving lanes, especially when the momentum started to flip late in the 1st H and 2nd H. Our big guys just didn't have it from deep on Wednesday, and I think we played tentatively offensively as a result because we didn't think we could get to the rim and draw fouls. It felt like we settled for jumpers on offense repeatedly over the final 8+ minutes of regulation.2 points -

Lawrence has struggled a lot of late, so I understand going with hoiberg early and keeping Lawrence on a short leash. He finally hit a groove on some junk point plays and some pretty passes. Need him to convert on at least one of his 5 3 balls though. I do agree though in regards to getting where we need to go. Lawrence has to be better for us to get where we need to. I see good things from him, but it's few and far in-between bad or mediocre play.2 points -

Lawrence was playing very well early on then got replaced by Hoiberg who was horrible most of the game. Should let him keep playing when he was going well. If we are going to get where we want it will include Lawrence. Hoiberg brought nothing until a couple threes in overtime to give us a punchers chance.2 points

I was curious to see how many offensive rebounds RU had after Gary went out. Here is what I found. Juwan Gary went out at the 13 minute mark of the second half. Up to that point, RU only had 10 offensive rebounds. Without Gary, RU had 15 offensive rebounds in the final 13 minutes (unreal). Gary also had 6 rebounds on his own. Needless to say losing Gary was catastrophic for how the game turned out. There is no way we would have lost that game with Juwan going out.2 points -

Through my work, I have come to realize that calf strains are often a lot more problematic than we would think. Think Joe Burrows this year. Could hardly move until it fully healed about two months later. Like everything, it has a fairly wide range of severity. Let’s hope it is in the milder end, but it doesn’t feel that way to me. It is obviously great news, but it is still very possible we don’t get the same Gary this season. Glad that there shouldn’t be drastic long term issues.1 point -

I think the biggest issue for Keisei is his propensity, from my perspective, to exaggerate contact multiple times a game. I have no doubt he gets tugged on and opposing players are physical with him but he seems to go out of his way to try and sell calls, especially on cuts through the lane. If I believe this as a biased fan, he likely is viewed similarly by refs. I don't believe he will get the benefit of the doubt too often.1 point -

Our two best 3 point shooters, Hake and Nissley each only had one attempt last night. We need to get them more open looks. KM played more than Nissley but she also provided a spark. DW was 1 of 4 from deep but she has not been a good 3 pointer shooter. KM was 1-3 from deep. She appears to be a better drive to the basket player. Jaz was 1 of 4. She has been streaky, either on or not at all.1 point -

Last year, we were not a great road (2-9 prior to our last 2 games) team, but won our last 2. The year before that, we were 0 - 8, and won our last 3. 2 against ranked teams. We protect home court and get hot on the road, we can still make something of this season. We have 2 absolute must wins, and then it's time to start playing better on the road. It starts with defense, and not having scoring droughts.1 point -

Peeking at the B1G standing added to my frustration. We are two awful road game halves from being in 2nd place with the tiebreaker over Purdue. Sometimes I think why do I care so much just to see my fanatic heart ripped out every season. On the flip side, if I stop watching and caring, we probably become a blue blood, and I would suffer the misery of not getting to enjoy their success. Just a lose-lose it feels like sometimes. I'm guessing that others feel the same! The life of a Husker Hoops fan.1 point
