Crazy turn of events with Coach Forbes leaving Wake to take over for Fran McCaffrey at Iowa, so looks like I'm on the market again, and ..." HCFH: "I'm unable to get to my phone right now, so please leave me a message and I'll get back to you when I can. Beeeeep." P5: "Coach, I know you're there; I can hear you breathing on the line." 4. That’s the Team I was referring too. Beat Michigan by 20 in Lincoln, lost to them by the same in the B1G Tournament, THEY get the nod since Buckeyes/Wolverines Run the Conference & go on to play in the Natty. We don’t even get a Home NIT game, talk about Nebrasketball. There’s Exhibit A in Spades

Nebraska Cornhuskers (15-14) vs Michigan St Spartans (17-11) Date: February 28th, 2023 Time: 8:00 pm (Senior night ceremonies start at 7:30) Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN Michigan St Spartans Head Coach: Tom Izzo Location: East Lansing, MI Conference: B1G Nickname: Spartans Mascot: Sparty Line: Michigan St by 3.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 8+ KenPom rank: 28 A couple of Famous Alumni: Magic Johnson, Draymond Green Other: Blaise Keita is a game time decision though not likely to play Nebraska is 12-1 when they score 70+, 3-13 when held under 70 Nebraska lost the first meeting with the Spartans 74-56 after being held to 17 points in the first half. Derrick Walker led the Huskers with 15 while Tyson Walker led Michigan St with 21. KenPom Analysis: Their gameplan is typical for an Izzo team where they pass the ball well on offense and they're all about sitting back on defense to try and force poor shots. Offensively they struggle inside but convert well from 3 when they take them. Player to watch: G Tyson Walker Walker is having a heck of year shooting from outside, 42% for the season and 48.5%. He's made a smooth transition from PG to SG. Player to watch: AJ Hoggard MSU's starting PG is the Spartan who gets to the FT line the most. The distributor isn't a great shooter. Player to watch: Joey Hauser The big stretch 4 is shooting 43.9% from 3 and is their small ball 5. Whenever I get asked this I have to pause because I don't really know the answer. I suppose you could say Walker or Griesel but every game it's often different. If teams gameplan to take someone away, someone else steps up. This has become a team better than the sum of its parts and that's part of what makes it so likeable. Michigan St is fresh off losing a game where they scored over 100 points and led by 10+ with a minute to go. They certainly have the firepower to blow Nebraska away but like most teams in the B1G find it pretty hard to win on the road in conference. A capacity PBA will try and will this extremely likable Nebraska team into a postseason against a very good MSU team. Can they do it? Prediction: Nebraska 71 - MSU 68 View full article

Issie at honorable mention just seems wrong. Easily second team if not better. If she doesn't come back, we will definitely miss what she does for this team. Scores, rebounds, fast breaks, defends, love her inside game.... you name it.

  13. That is no excuse. If I was in charge if it I would be prepared enough to put it together correctly in ten or 15 minutes. The only mystery is who gets taken from you by the NCAA. With people like Collier on it, it is easier to envision why it is a disaster.

  14. Just thought I’d throw this out for appreciation: NU is completing their 12th season in the Big Ten conference. Only twice before have they won at least 8 games in conference: 2017-18 (Miles): 13-5 2013-14 (Miles): 11-7 (made NCAAs) These are our conference records in the Big Ten: 8-10 (current) 4-16 3-16 2-18 6-14 13-5 6-12 6-12 5-13 11-7 5-13 4-14 Even if we lost these last two regular season games, this will be - by percentage- our third-best Big Ten in history. For a team that lost so much off a bad team from a year ago, has lost multiple starters for the season this year, and has been forced deep into their bench and even walk ons…that is amazing. You can make arguments about relative conference strength year to year, but the bottom line is we always measure ourselves against our peers. And by that metric this is the third best season in the last dozen years. Carry on. RDK

  20. Four more wins only gives us a 40% chance. To get to 4 more wins, we would have to either ... Lose our next two games to the NET #33 team at home and #43 team on the road, finish as an 11 or 12 seed, and then reach the Big Ten Championship game; Win one of our next two games to the NET #33 team at home or #43 team on the road, finish as a 10 seed, and then reach the Big Ten Championship game; or Win our next two games to the NET #33 team at home and #43 team on the road, finish as a 10 seed, and then reach the conference semifinals. To get to five more wins, we'd almost have to win the Big Ten tournament title. And they're saying that only gets us a 91% chance of getting in? Sounds about Nebrasketball.

  28. Sure, from a player's point-of-view, if they don't call it, you keep doing it. But, that doesn't mean it's legal. It is still traveling. Just because the stooges can't do their job properly, doesn't mean it shouldn't be questioned. And it is most certainly NOT called consistently - if it was, there would be no more traveling at all (see below). The euro-step is different. It looks awkward as hell. First time I saw it (and many times after), I thought that has to be traveling. But, the euro-step, at least, is basically the same as a straight-line (relatively speaking) layup in that it is a continuous motion (you get 2 steps after picking up the ball from the dribble) before releasing the ball toward the hoop. The second step is just at an extreme angle to the initial direction of motion. The long step and release of the pivot foot after stopping or pivoting on said foot is not a continuous motion like a typical layup. There is a break in the movement into the shooting (or passing) action to establish the pivot foot after dribbling. So, ask yourself the following: if a player establishes a pivot foot without previously dribbling (e.g., has just received a pass) at the top of the key, for instance, and then drags or picks up that planted foot before dribbling, passing or shooting, is that traveling? Of course it is and it will be called traveling 99% of the time (unless it's in the NBA when we occasionally see the replays of some clown getting 15 feet closer to the basket by changing his pivot foot multiple times). The same thing applies if the player picks up the dribble and establishes a pivot foot prior to passing or shooting. Why should the call change just because the player is within 5 feet of the basket? These steps around or away from the defender to get a shot up (after stopping and pivoting) are the exact same situation. It is traveling and it should not be allowed. If they continue to allow it around the basket, then why shouldn't a player be allowed to change their pivot foot at any time at any location on the court? And for sure, my complaining won't make a damn bit of difference and I won't stop watching games, but I will continue to cringe every time it happens and I will continue to call it out for the BS that it is. I'm not trying to be a jackwagon toward you and I understand things change, but the current state of this particular 'interpretation' is simply wrong and not applied consistently. It's just a blatantly farcical and situationally-dependent butchering of one of the most basic concepts/rules of the game and those that have allowed it and continue to allow it should be ridiculed.

  29. I had very similar thoughts to you when looking back at records. I even looked further back at our Big 12 records prior to leaving. There we only played 16 conference games, which makes it harder to compare but also - in theory - gives you 4 easier games per year. So the overall records would seem to trend better versus what we have now, where we play less non-conference games. I researched this a while back but have since forgotten the details, but our non-con SOS in the Collier/Sadler and even Nee days was…bad. Miles eventually adjusted but it feels like we’ve had some rough non-con under Fred. Even discounting percentage and just looking at raw wins versus big-boy conference opponents in the regular season, this year is pretty good. In the 11 seasons Collier & Sadler coached us in the Big 12 - from 1999-00 to 2010-11 - NU beat 8 conference opponents ONCE…they went 8-8 in the 2008-09 season. Sure, less opportunities than we have now by 4…but we’ve watched NU beat 8 conference opponents for only the 4th time in the last 24 years this season.

  35. People will hate this comparison but his film reminds me of Kalkbrenner from Creighton. He is skinnier and more mobile but basically does the same things: protects the rim, finishes around the rim on feeds from his teammates, and generally seems to have very good timing on blocking shots. Neither guy seems to have polished post moves. He *might* have better shooting range than Kalk. Hard to tell after a couple short clips. All that said, would LOVE to have a rim protector like young Mr. Bol in this defense we play now (or at any other time I suppose). When is the last time we had a guy like that? Kimani Ffriend? I hope he had a great time visiting this weekend.

  37. Not to try to hijack the Kenpom thread with too much discussion about NET, but do you all remember when the NCAA introduced the whole notion of Quad wins/losses? The idea was to encourage teams to schedule tough games. Not to pad their resumes with a bunch of wins over cupcakes and patsies. Schedule tough. Get wins over good teams; don't lose to bad ones. So, right now, Nebraska sits at #92 in the NET. We have seven Quad 1 and 2 wins. We have zero Quad 3 and 4 losses. Right ahead of us at #91 is James Madison. They have zero Quad 1 wins; two Quad 2 wins; two Quad 3 losses; and FOUR Quad 4 losses. So, they have NO really good wins and FOUR really bad losses. And they're ahead of us. Don't try to explain to me how the NET algorithm works. I don't care. Their algorithm is clearly broken.
