  1. I hope Sallis has fun watching March Madness from the couch. Yes, I'm still upset that he didn't come to Nebraska.

  3. A quick update: we were under the impression when the first two lymph nodes tested positive, they then removed two more. We were wrong. They actually removed 20 additional lymph nodes. Got the results back this morning. All 20 came back negative! Thank you all for your prayers! Got a good feeling about tonight's game....

  4. Flirting with that line today sitting at #74. Their schedule the rest of the way is favorable for some wins. However, they have some big games left too and we can't afford for them to get blown out really. Most likely they'll end up a Q3 I think-- just based on the schedule they have left. @Oregon @Washington USC @Michigan @Purdue Minny However, I'm not as much worried about having 1 Q3 loss this year because we basically offset that with the strong Q1 record we have. There are teams out there with 1 or more Q3 losses AND they have maybe 1-2 Q1 wins if that. The bubble this year is WEAK WEAK. All we have to do is put ourselves in a position and we'll be in with our strong resume. Never thought I'd write that about Nebrasketball.

  5. Hopefully a game where the team steps up big in Berke's absence. We'll need it. Maryland is/can be a very good team. Nebraska with a chance to get most wins against ranked teams in a season. Getting this one would be huge. Big game. Hope the crowd is ready. Real possibilities.

  6. Nebraska Cornhuskers (16-8) vs #25 Maryland Terrapins (18-6) Date: Thursday Feb. 13th, 2025 Time: 7:30 pm CST Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN (Kevin Kugler and Shon Morris) Maryland Info Head Coach: Kevin Willard (3rd year) Location: College Park, MD Conference: B1G 10 Nickname: Terrapins, Terps Mascots: Testudo Line: Nebraska by 1.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 9 KenPom rank: 18 Nota bene: Previous Meeting: Nebraska played Maryland close on the road in front of a sleepy Sunday morning crowd but would ultimately lose 69-66. Andrew Morgan had 17 while Brice had 14. Ja'Kobi Gillespie went off for 22. Ahron Ulis had a career high 10 assists as both he and Worster played minutes together against Maryland's pressure. Maryland played KenPom's 364th hardest non-con schedule, dead last Player to watch: Derik Queen The 6'10" 246# freshman has been as good as advertised, leading the team in scoring while second on the team in rebounding. Fast forward to today and Nebraska finds themselves on a winning streak, looking to set the school record for wins over ranked teams in a season. Other than what is hopefully a short term injury to Berke Büyüktuncel, Nebraska finds themselves looking good for yet another challenging conference game. Maryland has won 4 of their last 5 including road wins at Illinois and Indiana. Look for Juwan Gary to slot in at the 4 for most of this game as Andrew Morgan, Braxton Meah, and maybe Cale Jacobsen split time at the 5. Things could get dicey inside as Queen and Reese will draw contact. Speaking of, the Huskers mostly shut down Derik Queen and Julian Reese last game. Maryland's starting guards were another story as they combined to score 50 of Maryland's 69 points while shooting 10-24 (41.6%) from 3. The Huskers defense has looked crisp in the month of February and it will need to be to clamp down on the Terp's outside shooting. One interesting development in the previous matchup vs Maryland was Berke's foul trouble and Nebraska's early turnover issues led to Nebraska playing Worster and Ulis together, something you might see if Ulis is playing well (or if foul trouble necessitates it.) Maryland tends to run people off the 3pt line so Essegian will have to start shooting from beyond the NBA line. For most everyone else Nebraska will likely live in the paint. Sometimes it seems like that first game after a major injury that a team does well. One reason for this is that the opposition doesn't necessarily know what the adjustment is going to be. Look for Nebraska to play some inspired defense. Will it be enough? Prediction: Nebraska 74 - Maryland 70 View full article

Ah, to be young and a quick healer. If my ankle did that, at a minimum, I would be on crutches for weeks and I would likely opt to go the wheel chair route so that my wife and kids had to push me around. Keep healing (quickly) Berke.

  14. They have to defend us as well. We need Connor to be hot and Gary and Williams just need to keep doing what they've been doing.

  15. It’s amazing we opted for some sort of line up that included 3 of meah, uhlis, hoiberg, Morgan, Jacobsen to end that 6-8 minutes in the first half and didn’t get boat raced….no shooters out there, no real offense being ran, and it somehow worked lol. How disengaged must Griffiths be at practice to not even see a minute at the end of that first half too….really feels like a swing and a miss with him unfortunately.

  16. Unless it is Creighton. Then you can bet your a** I will bag on the kid. Why??? Because it is Creighton. That said, if the kid goes just about anywhere else, I can see giving the kid a break. Unless of course the kid is named TJ Pugh.

  17. Yeah, that's fine. I just personally struggle to comprehend bagging on kids or cheering against them for making choices to go to a college that isn't Nebraska for reasons we aren't nor should we be privy to.

  18. I don't think Biliew, a kid from Iowa, ever had Nebraska on his radar. Eventually the Nebraska staff stopped caring about Frederickson when he denied them more than Peter.

  20. Glad we are not paying them. Parker has not been good at all, think Rollie is shooting better from 3 than him. Omaha barely got time when healthy. Definitely hoping they don’t make the tourney.

  21. I really think he is about as bad as you can be on defense. Our defense is what produces our offense and therefore his play is not geling with Fred's system. Maybr he can figure it out, but his lateral movement is abysmal. Athletic teams like USC, UCLA and Ohio State would make him look REALLY bad!

Told him to cheer against Hunter He took his Husker gear to wear so Hunter will see him. He will also be missing his first Husker home game in around 25 years.

I don't know that quick healing has any correlation with being young when it comes to sprained ankles. My first ankle sprain came after I tried to block a 5'3", 220 pound linebacker who threw me to the ground like a rag doll whereupon someone stepped on my foot and turned it almost 90 degrees. (Yes, 5'3", 220, he was also their point guard in basketball, the toughest MFer I'd ever seen, if he'd been 6 foot tall he would be in the NFL hall of fame.) So that hurt worse than anything I'd felt in my life up to that point. My second sprained ankle came about two minutes later, because for some stupid reason I got up and kept playing. The teams other linebacker tossed me to the ground like a rag doll and then someone fell on the same foot when it did turn 90 degrees. I didn't learn my lesson because I kept playing until halftime; luckily it didn't happen again. It was then swelled up for about the next two years. Now, years later, I can step in a hole, fall to the ground and wrench an ankle just as bad, and will be walking around fine in a couple of minutes. Apparently after you've sprained each one over a hundred times, that's what happens.

  28. I have a feeling Cale is our 3rd option at the 5, simply because of his strength and knowledge of the system. Hope it doesn’t come to that, but two early fouls on both Brax and Andrew could be bad.

  32. Develop was the wrong word to use. I have no problem with tight rotations, but when Gary, Williams or Berke get two fouls in the first half it would be nice to have more firepower to bring off the bench. We don't have that this season, hopefully we will have more depth in this regard next year.

  34. Just a reminder that although many people bring up NET ranking a lot, it doesn’t matter what ours is. It is simply a sorting tool, not an evaluation tool. Not sure why they don’t use a different sorting tool that they deem worthy of using as an evaluation tool.

  36. it gets no easier tomorrow and this one is on the road. I would think that any problems with illness will have been resolved by then. and if the losing streak lasts all the way through this road trip, I hope we don't hear the "at this point in the season we have a lot of tired legs" explanation - as has been offered in previous years and as tho it doesn't affect opponents as well.

Some guys just clear space under the defensive board and he is one of them. Last guy I saw do that was Venson. Berke is not to that degree, but when he is under the defensive board, he is different than others - certainly different than Morgan or Meah. He is long and thick when it comes to clearing space. And I think that works for him when he is guarding on the perimeter. I'm sure that is why Fred says his metrics on defense are best on the team.

Just curious but can you say more specifically what were the "major logistics issues"? People went out on at the floor level for the first several years (including me at times and members of my family all the time) and the only "issue" that I ever noticed was that people did not like the look of fans leaving right along the court before the game was over. That was the only reason I have ever heard for shutting off the floor access to the lower bowl seats. What other reasons are there? Why would it be a security issue - that all happens at the building entrance which is at floor level? Not trying to be a jerk - just honestly am curious about what these other "nightmarish" issues are that you reference. It is a building that was well designed for games and concerts in terms of viewing - but very poorly designed in terms of ingress and egress. The north entrance is potentially almost as big as the one on the south (doors are closer together but there are quite a few of them) like they thought people would be entering close to equally from both sides. But in fact far more people come in from (and go out) the south side because that is where the Haymarket business are - and the bulk of the closer parking as well. FWIW I am one that enters from the north most of the time and for awhile that was great because you always walked right in while there were lines at the south entrance. But the middle of last year PBA decided that they would only staff 1 or 2 of the doors on the north entrance - so all the sudden you have big lines to get in there at times as well. That sucks - but I think it is derived mostly be PBA cutting staffing for games. FWIW it is very easy to leave on the north side - you just walk right out - while exiting the building on the south can now be a nightmare. There are stair exits that allow people to go out doors other than the allowed entrances - but most people don't know about them so they don't get used. If they made those exits more noticeable maybe by opening the doors or putting up a sign I think it would help alleviate the massive buildup that happens above the escalator when people try to leave. It is those kind of issues exiting the building that do cause people to want to leave early. As I final point to me original question - again because I usually go in and out on the north side I have to go up to the concourse anyway - so not existing at the floor is not a big deal to me personally. But I am also aware of fans who stopped going to games because they could not go up and down that many stairs to get to their seats from that upper concourse. That was not an issue when they were allowed to go out at floor level.

  41. For the bracketology nerds out there, this is a good article talking about how the committee will be using WAB and the Torvik rankings as new metrics this year, in addition to the previously used ones. https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2024-11-01/ncaa-division-i-mens-basketball-committee-discusses-team-evaluation-process#:~:text=The adoption of the Torvik, expect to have against the If you look at every one of our metrics right now we sit at: KPI: 30 (8 seed) SOR: 40 (10 seed) WAB: 38 (10 seed) RES AVG: 36 (9 seed) BPI: 44 (11 seed) KP: 39 (10 seed) TRK: 41 (11 seed) PRE AVG: 41.3 (11 seed) The committee weighs the resume averages a little stronger than the predictive averages too based on last year's data, so I think we're right on the 9-10 line right now.

  45. I’d argue if his teammates cut and move better off the ball when he gets to the paint we’d be appreciating him more. Also, playing in a starting line up with a terrible offensive post, inconsistent 3pt three point shooters like BB and Gary, and iso scorer like Brice - isn’t exactly conducive to assists.
