  1. Why come to Nebraska? We have no history of NCAA tournament success. We've been on a bad skid with the current coach, the same guy who is recruiting you and for whom you'd probably be playing if you did choose to come here. So, why on earth? Well ... 1. Chances are really good you'll start. KU can't say that. Kentucky can't say that. Hell, Iowa can't even say that. 2. You'll play in a great conference. 3. Facilities are among the best anywhere. 4. Fan support is ridiculous for what they've had to cheer for. 5. We can put together a damn good NIL deal that would rival anyone, anywhere. 6. You've seen coaches turn beet-red and go all foaming-at-the-mouth ballistic during games? Can you imagine what they're like in practice? OMG. If you like getting berated and belittled on the daily, go there. But, if you want someone who's going to calmly walk you through things, have you seen Fred's sideline demeanor? 7. Don't judge us by last year's W/L record. We had season-ending injuries to a couple of key players. Watch the game film, see how even a short-handed team was giving them hell and trying to hang in there, and try to imagine how you might contribute. We're close. We're only missing the elements you possess. YOU are the missing ingredient. 8. If we do get it turned around, you will absolutely be a part of history. This would be the Cinderella story that all major sports media would focus on. You could be a part of it. You'd be a hero to this community. You might not ever have to buy yourself a drink in the City of Lincoln for the rest of your life. Ask Jamal Mashburn if the people in Lexington, Kentucky even recognize him and remember his name. 9. If you want to walk out of here with a degree, we have the academic support to make sure it happens. Is that enough to swing any good players our way? Is that enough to sell the kinds of portal players we'd need in order to make it happen next year? Or is our history of futility and our recent woes too much of a hurdle to overcome? Thoughts?

  2. For this team there are no surefire wins. Michigan State is more than capable of beating us tonight. We have to play for forty (40) minutes which we have been unable to do. We need a win.

  4. I’d say it’s easier to get 3 Starters/Impact Players from the portal with Fred here, than scrapping everything with a New Hire.

  5. Objectives: no lazy leisurely lofted cross court passes that are easy pickins secure rebounds - no permitting quick footed, quick handed opponents to snatch the ball off our hands before it is secured bigs can't get the ball so deep in the lane that there is no room to lay it at least 30% success on threes

  8. We're fairly even teams in some respects. Their record is nearly the same as ours. But our schedule is stronger. They're similar in size. This is for position in the B1G race. Need to slow down McDaniel (I think that's her name)...she's been around the block, has lots of experience and is about 23 or 24. Played for Baylor and someone else previously as I recall. Yes, must start fast and never slow down. Guards and Issie attack the basket, and Markowski have another double double. Home game so that's worth maybe 10. A win will be just fine thank you !

  10. Gotta say that the middling offenses which at their best have been Derrick Walker surrounded by teammates who can't combine for over 34% from 3 has been truly disappointing. We've finished last in the conference in offensive efficiency in Hoiberg's first 3 years and currently are last again this year with a chance to finish ahead of Minnesota for 13th. We have a coach known for his offense who cannot seem to summon nor recruit it

    Ten second rule

I thought I would bring to the fore a few other misunderstood or inconsistant rules: * Player control fouls; * 3 second violation; * Flop calls; and * (and) one foul calls. The first one has been discussed adnausiam. Seems to still be a judgment call in most instances (with some clarity around the basket.) 3 second call should be abolished as it is rarely called. If it is called, then I question the integrity of the referee. Why did she or he call a violation at that moment, and not the twenty other times it occurs in any given game. Flops, basically the same as above. They seem to occur multiple times in any given game; but it is only called at select times and arguably can dramatically affect the game flow and/or outcome. What we are now seeing more often is that a player goes for a lay up and makes it, a foul is not called. But if it missed, then the ref blows a late whistle and assesses a foul. WTH...it is a foul or it isn't. That creates a situation where the refs whistle can control the game. I won't even get into the arm bars, the stiff arms, the extreme body contact (especially with the bigs going at it like rams fighting for the in-heat ewes.) Meanwhile, a ticky-tac touch gets whistled. Point being, the referees have a tough job. BUT, they are the ones who are so inconsistent with their calls that create mistrust and integrity issues. By the way, this is not just NCAA officials, this is officiating across the board.

    2023...

Was really hoping we could keep the Aussie string going. This is a good indicator Issie and Jazz are sending home good reports about UNL and their experience here. Jessica is the type of player we need. International experience on National teams. She won't be like a freshman with glassy eyes on her face. Need to see more of her floor game. Hope she has some Issie type moves inside the lane. STATS https://basketball.australiabasket.com/player/Jessica-Petrie/605506?Women=1 No 12 in this team pix

  24. Getting guys out of the portal is easy; there are approximately 1000 or so per year. Before that though do we currently have a blueprint for the type of team we want to be and the type of players we need to be that team? Seemed like we had that sort of plan recruiting guys this year as opposed to trying to find the guys who had the most stars out of HS. Is that still the plan? Defense went pretty well. How much does it need to be tweaked for offense?

  25. Travis Ford is a sneaky good option. Dude has a very high floor as his teams are always pretty good. Maybe he hasn't shown that he can be a high ceiling coach with a great team sprinkled in once in a while, but I think most of us would take a coach who consistently has his teams post-season eligible.

    2023 Baseball

I think this team will surprise with a big turnaround - 3rd in the B1G sounds about right to me. Going to be tough to catch Maryland. Guessing we'll struggle in the non-con because we have so many positions and roles with quite a bit of competition, so the coaches will have to use those first few weekends to sort things out. Hopefully once B1G play starts, they'll be settled and ready to take a big jump.
