    Staying

This is not to bag on people leaving early, but, I hope everybody stays to the end today. These kids need a standing O from us no matter the out come of this game. Have brought back the pride in hoops for many of us. Forgot how much fun all this can be.

  6. Tarin Smith wants to be here, is a high character kid and comes from a program with tremendous pedigree. He seems to be a team guy and a very neat young man. I'm looking at this as a blessing - to quote former Blue Jays GM JP Whatever his name was, when the Blue Jays lost out to the Royals on signing Gil Meche. "We really dodged a bullet on this one." I'll take Tarin and hope Trey enjoys backing up Mike G and getting his tailed kicked by Nebraska the next few years.

    Tweet about Petteway

Forget about Dickerson. We are done feeling sorry for ourselves. We are a legit program on the major upswing and its not like the old days anymore, where we were "in" on one or two big recruits and had nothing to fall back on. I have a feeling by this time next year, we're going to be getting visits from kids we couldn't have even imagined a few years ago on OFFICIALS, not the unofficails we've seen in recent summers.

  11. I asked his dad if they had fun signing autographs tonight at OC. He said the only thing he got to sign was the tab. The Petteway family is really good people and they have been overwhelmed by how well their son has been treated by the fans and staff.

    Recruiting Expectations

Another thing to consider - with the season we've had, and Petteway and everyone else coming back next year - we should get a lot more ESPN games, and maybe even a couple CBS games. We will likely be picked to finish in the Top 4 of the conference, so we won't be relegated to BTN or ESPNU every game. We will get much more National TV exposure, which should help recruiting. I can't wait to see who we schedule next year. Miles isn't afraid to play anyone, anything to bring attention to the program. I'd love to see something like a game against KU in Kansas City. Or how about a 2-for-1 deal with Duke or Kentucky or UNC? Now that we are gaining some respectability, I think these are realistic possibilities.

  19. Great night for the Huskers. So many players showed up big, none more than Havers, of course. Which allowed Hooper to play only 23 minutes, which could pay off big today. Perhaps lost in the Havers highlights was an unbelievable performance by T Laudermill. I thought this might have been her best all-around game as a Husker (and yes, I was at the Penn State game in Lincoln). Great job T!

and so does everyone in the country. Nebraska has NEVER been a winner in hoops and is one of two "BCS" schools to never win a NCAA game. It will take some time but the trend is there but Rome wasnt built in a day and neither will this downtrodden program. Its tough to polish a turd but Miles is working some magic. Sorry, but using "NEVER" is not true. Not winning a tourney game doesn't mean NU has never had a winner. The early 90's was very good basketball under NEEbrasketball (unfortunately the momentum wasn't maintained).

    Bubble Watch

I'm sure Shuttlesworth will be all over this (and thank you by the way for doing this!), but I'm just jacked and trying to kill time, think, relax all at once. So looking at some games today that we want to watch... Obviously we need Wichita State to win the Valley today....REALLY big game for bubble teams. NW @Purdue...loser gonna take the #12 seed. I personally would rather see NW win JUST in case we get that 5 seed. Purdue with Hammonds can beat anybody I would think on any given day. Not that NW can't, but not "as likely" Syracuse @FSU....FSU would have a shot to get back in the mix with a win today. Need Syracuse to get this one. St. Louis @UMASS...RPI/SOS with a UMASS win Mercer vs FGCU for a ticket to the dance....go FGCU! LaSalle @St. Joe's....would love to see St. Joe's drop this game at home. Not likely, but would hurt them. Michigan State @Ohio State...Go MSU! Lock us into that 4 seed. Now, we want to get in with a win obviously, but why not have MSU guarantee it for us early. Penn State @Minnesota...Minnesota still has a shot to get in. Let's knock them off the bubble with a home loss Enjoy the day everybody!! 6:30 can't get here soon enough!!!!

Congratulations to Kaylee and Lanie Page's Wamego team, they won their Kansas 4-A Sub-State game tonight over Hayden 53-47. Kaylee had a team high 19 points and Lanie threw in 14. They now advance to the state tournament next week held in Salina.

  31. I don't think I've ever seen a Nebraska high school player block shots as easily and cleanly as Ibis. Even Hooper, Cady, and some of the best future NU volleyball players didn't block shots like that in high school. She dominates the game from the defensive end.

  32. So happy for Havers. Thought we'd see this type of performance next year, so glad it's now! And how chill was she...saw her take some shots bordering on cheap and she didn't even flinch. Just took it to them. Fun listening to the radio crew call, as usual. Jeff really hits my funny bone. And tomorrow we get some more and then Kent and Matt later in the men's game. I'm really enjoying Husker basketball right now. What a great time to be a fan.

    Kissingers

I think that they are very good 3 point shooters. However, I have always felt they are slow on defense and that is why there was so much foul trouble today. If they are standing wide open they can knock down the shot, but given that they couldn't keep up defensively against a team with little or no college recruits, I have my doubts about their success in D1. And for people that said Minden could beat most of the top class A teams, I highly doubt it.

I had a dream.... last night

I had a dream last night, but there was no basketball in it. I was eaten by a 400 ft tall Britney Spears. It was horrible. All I can remember was screaming, "No, baby, not one more time!"

  38. I had a dream that we beat Wisconsin 61-56, but that I missed the game. I ended up going to some get together with some friends at some sort of resort. We we're vaping. Not sure why, as I've never done that yet. I've only looked at a couple of my co-workers e-cigs and sniffed their liquids. I was really upset that I did not get to see the game and didn't use my ticket. I was upset that I didn't sell the ticket and get a couple hundred dollars and wasted by time at this lame resort. Needless to say, my ticket will be used tomorrow. It is going to be fun!

    Scouting Wisconsin

Miles said on his radio show that Wisconsin scares him because they spread you out and can make you scramble on defensive rotations. In watching a few of Wisconsin's games, they often play with four, and sometimes five guys, on the perimeter. I would think that stopping dribble penetration, which leads to the frantic defensive rotations, would be a primary emphasis. Make them attempt tough, contested shots in the lane rather than scramble and give up open threes. Defensively, I saw Newbill and some of the guys from PSU get in the lane and to the basket with some regularity. Can Walt keep Kaminsky away from the basket and free up Shavon and Terran to get to the rim? We need to be aggressive attacking the basket and not settle for jumpers early in the shot clock without first making an attempt to get in the lane. That being said, it would make things much easier in the lane if Rey, Walt and the boys can knock down some shots. I am getting nervous and psyched for this game just reading these posts! GBR!!

I will say I wish I could go to the game because it would be electric, but I'm glad I won't for no sit Sunday. I honestly feel horrible standing at events just because of the person behind me. Between me (6'7") and my wife (6'5") we usually get complaints from those behind us that cannot see.

  47. After reading up on him more I am glad TM is checking him out. This is his first year starting in HS. He has sat behind 3 Rivals 150 players the last few years and this is his year now to start. On his AAU team he was a starter but had 4 teammates all committed to big time schools like Kentucky, UCinn, Maryland etc. Nothing wrong with finding a kid that was overlooked and bloomed late. I mean lets be honest here everyone wants Trey Dickerson, whom was committed to Murray State last summer and finally got seen and blew up really late and now a year later look at how bad we want him. What if Smith is this years Trey Dickerson but we can get in on him before he has to go JUCO to break his binding commitment elsewhere. by the way cool little tidbit I found when reading, he is set to be the valedictorian of his senior class. Having a smart point guard is nothing to scoff at when the game is in your hands.

    Hammond!

Hammond is, based on Rivals, the best recruit Nebraska has had in what, 20 years? First ever top 150 recruit. Yet based on this board, the expectations are extremely low. I think we all will be pleasantly surprised next year.
