  1. May be totally off base here, but I believe Mast's passing ability will greatly assist a guy like Connor who was missed on multiple cuts to the hoop this year. If Connor can really work to elevate his defensive efficiencies this offseason, add me into a column of a Keisei Jr to Sr year type jump for Connor. (And no, I'm not saying that Connor will be Keisei 2.0 -- I'm more saying he could make quite the leap)

  2. I hate that not all teams make the B1G tournament. It takes a lot of juice out of me personally in gearing up for March Madness. Even in years where we absolutely sucked, likely weren’t going to win a game… there was still that “what if” hope. That “we’re back to 0-0 record” type of thinking. I don’t even want to watch conference tournament week now.

  9. redshirting may not exist anymore anyway if the 5-in-5 rule is passed. Which would be good because redshirting is such a waste these days when you can instantly add new players any time you want to. Janowski might have helped us win a couple more games this year when we couldn’t buy a 3 to save our lives. It could’ve been the difference between dancing and not. Was it really worth it to see how good Nick Janowski is in 2028-29? Probably 10% chance he is even at Nebraska in 2028-29. Frager I can sort of get on board with because of how young he was. But still.

  13. absolutely. if Kim Barnes-Arico pulls in a high quality "big" they could give UCLA and USC a run for their money next season. i believe she has a 6'5" player, but, didn't play much? Hopefully, Savvy Swords (#13 for 2026) doesn't follow her sister and end up at Michigan.

  16. I personally know a big Kansas booster. He's kinda full of blue mud, but he's also been spot on quite a bit over the years. Anyway, he once told me there are a lot of coaches out there who would never consider taking a job at a school that's perceived to be in the lower tier of the Big Ten (Northwestern, Minnesota, Nebraska..) only because of the way they're treated by the conference (and he did cite the officiating).

  17. I will be in the minority, but I hope Gavin stays. He looked like a deer in the headlights this year. I am hoping another year in Fred's system will get him to be the player he was suppose to be coming out of high school. My philosophy would be to take guys with multiple years of eligibility remaining. The ones with one year remaining seem to struggle.

    2025 Transfer Portal

#1 for me is we HAVE to get more athletic. #2 Point Guard that can create shots for others (think Wooster could do this) AND actually be a threat to put the ball in the basket (Wooster not so good at this). #3 Combo Guard and Wing that can put the ball in the basket regularly when left open. #4 Back up big to give Mast some relief. #5 Rim protector but also a 4 that can score on a regular basis. Hard to know how many to place on this list not knowing who (if any) Fred tells they need to move on. I am hoping that Mast, the two Freshman and Berke and Essegian stick around.

  24. Berke was extremely important on the defensive end. It would have been nice to see the season without the ankle injury. I felt like it was bad news when it happened. Thought he got better as the year progressed. We missed him on Sunday. Do you go after one or two more bigs from the portal?
    1 point
  25. Yeah he was pretty soft, specifically around the rim. He needs to embrace physicality more often, and I have to think that's a point of emphasis on the off-season. One also wonders if having 3(?) different injuries in the same year played a role. Last 4 games of the year he clearly didn't trust his body. Meah I just didn't think much of tbh. So him being soft doesn't shock me. The faster he can get out of here the better. One of my least favorite players I've seen, and I'm usually EXTREMELY PATIENT with players. But holy shit he was lazy.

  26. He was one of my guys, so ive pondered about Berke and his season so I went to the stats. His jumper in conference play was better than I had realized honestly. Before going down with his ankle injury vs OSU, he was 37.5 from deep on 40 attempts across 13 games in conference play. I've said it for a while, I care more about conference play #s at the end of the season. Low volume, but effective in his choices. What brings down his % from 3 is going 1/12 in the last 4 games of the year. He does play soft around the bucket at times, and that is 100% something he needs to work on, but that comes with working on his body imo. Needs some reshaping and some more muscle. Very good rebounder. Smart in the post on defense. And high low actions with him posting and mast feeding need to be a part of the offense next year. Only reason I bring him up is I see him getting beat up a bit across different Nebraska boards, and I thought his season was good through the middle half, but ended absolutely terrible.

  27. I couldn't even tell you what happened. I generally ignore it. I'm also not sure how many coaches could have pulled a 180 after the first 3 years. I look at how long Collins has been at Northwestern and think, well we haven't tried that.

  28. Creighton getting some love from pollsters is kind of like Michigan State getting love. Not sure either one should be. Both on good years should be NCAA bound but ranked, well that can be debated.

I'll let you off easy for the Go Mavs. That one-- doesn't really bother me. However, I can't let you off the hook for saying you actively cheer for Creighton. I'd rather Creighton lose every game they play than have a state with more than one team doing well. That is all-- carry on the good bracketology talk.

  31. I agree very strongly with these two points. Rollie might go down as one of the most disappointing Huskers we've ever had. I truly felt he was "the answer" to nearly everything I'd wanted in a Husker PG. Big, strong, versatile defensively. I thought he was going to get into the paint at will and cause smaller guards absolute fits. Getting to the free throw line frequently. Then hit a 3pt shot here and there. Instead he turned it over, could absolutely not finish at the rim, didn't shoot near enough free throws, and couldn't hit a 3 to save his life (was expected tho). The bigs were super disappointing. I felt Meah was used very incorrectly and that is on the coaches, 100%. Morgan needed to give us like 70% of what Mast gave us as far as role in the offense and instead we maybe got to about 49%. And then Berke just could not put it together. I do feel Berke was also used incorrectly by the coaches. You can't have him on the floor with Meah and Juwan at the same time (which he was often to start the year). To me, Berke is closer to Mast than anything else (a small ball 5). I still think Berke has the most potential out of all of them.

  32. I think this is probably where most of the disconnect lies. There are two different camps of fans between those that give Fred judge Fred based on his “full body of work” and those that give him grace for the first three years. While I am in the latter camp, I certainly understand why others would be in the former. There are valid arguments both ways and I don’t think it is that important to bridge the gap because ultimately both camps want to see success for the program. I will just agree to disagree on the point; no hard feelings. Personally, I don’t consider Fred’s first three years much at all, and that probably puts me on the extreme even among those that give him grace. In my mind, Fred inherited nothing to build from and had to hastily throw together his first roster, then Covid struck, then had a disastrous season in what should have been a breakout year. However, after that season he recognized what was not working and implemented a complete program reset. Since then, we have had the best 3 year stretch in the past 30 years. Even this season, which was an “abject failure,” found us on the bubble until the last game of the season. The way I look at it is…if we hired a coach 3 years ago, and he produced these results, would I want him fired? For me the answer isn’t just no, but heck no. I expect to see progress, but understand progress isn’t always linear. For those that say his record is what it is, it’s not good enough, and we should move on…I can’t argue with that. Frankly, if I wasn’t willing to overlook those first 3 years (right or wrong), I would absolutely agree with you.

  34. At first I thought the timing of the CBC would hinder us with putting together a portal class. On second thought we only have three scholarship guys on the roster who currently play who may or may not stay (because that's our world now) in Berke, Connor, and Gavin. Everyone else is either graduating and we have to replace them or is a walk-on, or is redshirting. Considering we just lost our way out of the tournament, I'd rather see us try out or luck in Vegas than potentially lose another home game.

  35. Yeah, that's fair. Knowing how close we were in so many games and moments definitely slants my opinion. They all went against us. Is that bad luck or emblematic of an issue with coaching, leadership, etc. We didn't have these issues in 2023-2024. Or, I don't remember many gut punches that year although I am sure there were some. We took kicks to the balls repeatedly this season. So which season is the outlier or is the reality probably somewhere in the middle? If it was even sort of close to the middle this year, we are talking about seeding today. And, right or wrong, I largely ignore Fred's first three seasons here. He had to do a hard reset and adjust his coaching and recruiting philosophy to today's college basketball. Maybe I am part of the standards problem with Nebrasketball but I am willing to give someone I believe to be a really good head coach the benefit of extra time and patience. Regardless, as I said, next year is pivotal for Fred.
