The three Stanford kids now top a couple of the portal rankings. So, Stanford is *losing* like currently three of the best portal options available. And my question is how did they finish with a losing record given that talent level? And maybe that explains why they're getting a new coach.4 points -

Agree 100%. Stephen A. Smith and others are idiots who don't know the game. Virginia's program was a dumpster from the mid-90s until the 2010s when he got there. People just don't like watching his offense. His offense is often (not so much this year) very efficient and very effective. Many coaches and teams have copied his (his dad's) packline defense, or at least aspects of it. He produces NBA players (9 of them currently in the league right now). And like you said, he's got a ring. I like watching his teams, because they are very well coached. They had a "bad" year and still made the tournament. They will be elite again soon enough. He will keep building with his guys and end up with a team full of players who have played together for 4-5 years while everyone else will have a hodgepodge of portal journeymen. Why don't these talking heads ever call for Calipari to be fired? He lost in the 2nd round last year, 1st round the year before to a 15 seed, and didn't even come close to the NIT the year before that. Awhile back he had a team with two top 10 picks and another first rounder and they went to the NIT.3 points -

What I've read so far he seems to be a football centric AD. Which makes sense for Nebraska. I like that they got Hoibergs contract done before they hired a new AD. Just keep the boat steady and heading in the right direction good Sir. Nothing else3 points -

Mine was the BDSC in 1990, my freshman year in the student section, vs current BIG foe MSU. Not only was it my first Nebraska BB game it was my first College BB game ever. Before I went to school at Nebraska I didn't ever consider any other sports there other than Football. I was a huge NBA fan because I grew up in San Antonio and this was just the beginning of the David Robinson era. I used to go to NBA games all the time and saw George Gervin play often. Still one of my favorite players of all time. This was a great time to be a Spurs fan. Anyway, seeing the Huskers play up and close got me hooked instantly. Of course I was lucky, however I never thought this would be the high water mark for seasons. A few notes about that season I remember the most: 1. Losing to Murray State. Murray who? Oh yeah the Murray State team that had Popeye Jones and made the NCAA's. 2. Not being impressed by the Big 10 after we beat Illinois (neutral), MSU (home), and Wisconsin (away). 3. The student section!3 points -

Yeah it would. I think/hope “Culture fit” will be the first thing on the checklist when evaluating any portal player. Cliff would fit better with Hoiberg’s first few teams than these last two. William Kyle and his 7’3” wingspan could protect the rim pretty well. He’s got a conference DPOY under his belt now. And he checks the culture fit box for sure. We’ll see if he enters the portal.2 points -

Going back to Norm’s original post, I was a student at the game when Fort lost his contact lens. NU had a skinny backup center, Ron Taylor, at the time. He seemed like good guy so some buddies and I started a Ron Taylor fan club (unbeknownst to him). We would holler at Cip to give the guy more playing time. Good times. My first games were with my Dad hauling us down to the old coliseum where I saw Stu Lantz, Chalk (beating KU), Scantlebury, Jura, Gratopp, et al. One opponent in particular caught my eye - Cliff Meely (CU). That guy could fill it up.2 points -

Just pathetic by Bluder. The Big 10 gave her team a double bye. The system she says is so horrible rewards a team's regular conference record at a high level--the bottom 4 seeds would have to play 5 days in a row. So just shut it, Bluder.2 points -

My Dudes: That monkey is sprouting some wings
CanadianHusker and one other reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
Last winter, I said the list of portal needs for this year was short and manageable. I said whatever happens to finish the year, given the way the team was playing despite season-ending injuries to two starters, I was firmly on the side of giving Fred another year. And this is coming from someone who was ready to dump him after year 3. After the open practice this past fall, I said I was geeked and that it looked like we'd checked the boxes with our off-season roster moves. Through the first 7 games, we looked solid and impressive, but we really hadn't played anyone yet. And then we got drilled at home by Team Voldemort by almost 30 points and followed it up with a 2nd half collapse at Minnesota, and my Husker Hoops PTSD kicked in. I wasn't sure how well this group would bounce back. We had some new players that we didn't yet know a lot about. The Michigan State win at home could be a fluke. But, when we positively kicked Kansas State's ass in Manhattan, I knew this team was good. I knew we were at least a bubble team from that moment. And then we beat Indiana. And then we beat Purdue. And, while beating Purdue didn't seal a bid, I was sold on the idea that we were good enough to finish the job. And the next day, I started a thread about drivable 1st round venues. I believed what my eyes were telling me. And I said we have so many pieces that each kick in something different of value, and the whole is truly greater than the sum or our individual parts. And then the coaches moved Jamarques Lawrence to the bench, chose to start Brice as our primary ballhandler, and play all three big men on the floor at the same time. And while I was skeptical at first, I'll be damned if it didn't work. This is the best season-long job of coaching I've ever seen from a Husker hoops staff. And we are finally on the cusp of winning that elusive, first ever first-round NCAA tournament game. If this team shoots the way it is capable of shooting, it'll be like the Ohio State game at home: we'll just gradually pull away. And we'll be up 15 with a minute left and Norm will breathe easy. I agree with what @millerhusker said somewhere: Our defense is designed to stop a team like Texas A&M. They have two guards who score nearly half their team's points but neither is very good from deep. We're going to force them to the baseline where we have help and they don't have any good shooters to kick it out to. They have one guy who is a prodigious rebounder at nearly 10 a game. Put a body on him and clean the defensive glass and we're going to win this game. My dudes, that monkey is sprouting wings.2 points -
