  1. I paid closer attention to the rotation this game, and found something very interesting. For the first 18ish minutes, there was a true starter/backup rotation at the 1, 2, and 3. JL and Boogie shared the 1. When one came out, the other went in and took his role/assignment. Keisei and Sam shared the 2. Ditto. BW and Wilcher shared the 3. Double ditto. The Gary Mastlick Trio collectively manned the 4&5. Also interesting that Fred managed the first half like a hockey coach running line changes. Went with a wholesale second string for extended periods, rather than staggering the backups so as to always have 3+ starters on the floor. Maybe he was doing this in earlier games too, but this was the first time I noticed. I don't have any conclusions to draw from this. Just found the first half rotation really interesting.

  2. Never saw it, so I'm gonna have to plead ignorance on this one. But, at risk of setting @jimmykc off on a nostalgia trip about Jo Jo White, I might offer Glory Road up for consideration?

  3. Hoiberg press conference notes from today (monday) before DU game: Good physical practice today DU is very talented, excellent guards, will pressure us Opportunity to see where we stack up against a pressure team Must put last game behind us, even though there were a lot of positives Took care of ball, shared ball vs OSU – really imposed our will on them A little disappointing that we traded baskets in the 2nd half, need to continue to keep dominating – we fouled too much too – they got into the bonus too quickly Sam was a good factor on Pope defensively first half, but not as good 2nd half The intensity has to continue, keep your foot on the gas when you have a big lead, certainly something we can learn from Gary is really hunting his shot – when working his way back from injury he focused on balance – he shifted onto his left side when he first came here He worked very hard and did one-handed shooting to improve his balance when he was rehabbing I’m as proud of Gary as any player I’ve had here – so happy for his hard work to get himself where he is today See the difference he makes for our team – he brings so many intangibles, we are a completely different team with him 85% defensive blockouts for him vs OSU – big improvement for him from last year Live body he has, offensive putbacks, attacking the rim, he makes so many key plays With Gary, Mast, Allick, Brice, 90% offensive board crashing from that group vs OSU, that pays off Need to get Keisei going, got a lot of guys who can step up, though Mast has inside out presence – Allick putbacks – CJ coming off the bench – Brice with 25 points – great versatility on this team But there’s going to be a game where Keisei makes 6 to 8 3s – he’s still working his way back into shape – really didn’t practice much before returning to lineup – looking forward to seeing him go off soon Like Brice’s aggressiveness – had 16 pts in 2nd half vs Stony – hunted his shot – carried it over to OSU He's getting more consistent with offensive rebounding – can post up – he’s playing with confidence, we’ll need that from him all year Gary gives us a huge spark off the bench – our entire bench was great vs OSU, gave us a spark My hardest job right now is figuring out the rotation – we may have guys that play a lot one night and not so much the next – matchups, flow of the game all affect it We’re an unselfish group, so they all understand this and they’ll embrace it for the success we want at the end of the year Do have to think about margin of victory and how NET works – always in the back of your mind – early losses last year that turned into blowouts killed us in the NET More disappointed that we saw 31 pt lead drop to 21 quickly because of poor rebounding than because of how it affects NET But you always have to think about NET and margin Lloyd had a good practice today – still working himself into shape – go day by day with him – proud of him Bandoumel is working out at our facility right now - one of greatest culture guys I’ve ever been around, great on-ball defender, can make shots, great to see him back – he was talking to some of our guys today - want to see that kid have a great career somewhere

  4. Horrible judgement, yes. Unforgivable, yes. He’s also one of the US top 6 or 7. Take his punishment whatever that is - probably won’t get called up for the next camp because he can’t play with the red. If we have any chance to be competitive in the Copa we need a well-heeled Dest at left back. If we can smooth over the Gio controversy, we can make this work as well.

  5. Let us not forget that November 22 is a date of great historical significance. On November 22, 1978, the greatest five minutes of sitcom history was aired.

  6. It would be cool if they brought Danny back for this game since he coached at both schools and he is Nebraska's winningest coach. If they can bring Collier back, they surely can get Nee here.

  7. The media is very focused on the Utes and BYU, to the point that USU barely ever gets a passing mention. They get a little more notice than Weber State, but not by much. Similarly, UofU and BYU are the statewide fanbases. USU is more of a microregional fanbase (basically just Cache and Box Elder Counties), plus alums. The only people I know who care about USU are Aggie grads. Now granted, Aggie games are fairly well attended. They draw a good crowd. But if you take a straw poll of fans in the crowd, I guarantee that 99% live in the area. No one from SLC, Park City, etc is driving up to Logan for a football game. So there's a lot of words to say that I have no clue if the Aggies are sweating about conference realignment. I listen to local sports radio pretty frequently, but it has never been a topic mentioned. That would require taking a breath from talking about Cam Rising returning for 2024, or why no one outside of BYU respects BYU, or both schools' move to the Big 12. EDIT: to clarify, they talk conference realignment stuff all the time on local sports radio. Just not relative to USU.

  9. I know people were laser-focused, waiting on the score of what was the 3rd place game in the Cornhusker Classic - Stony Brook tops Rider 55-48. We can all sleep better now.

  10. Junior High Navin and his buddies loved that show. One friend even named his dog Haywood. SNL had a funny skit called "The black shadow" in which the black coach made poor life decisions and the white players had to bail him out!

  11. They also had 5 healthy seniors that for the most part have played together for years. We had 8 healthy players that haven't played together much including 3 freshmen. We just all need to relax. We will be OK.

  12. Swap "The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh" starring Dr. J for that "Space Jam" one.

  13. Every year, Creighton doesn’t beat us with superior athletes, they beat us with better coaching, better team chemistry.

  14. True, but moving up past them (or, more to the point holding steady) is better than moving down along with them. Also, now that Wisco blew out Virginia there is no danger of us catching or leap-frogging them any time soon. They're up to #21 today.

  15. Saw Tulane was on and was watching old friend Kevin Cross when I saw Atlason come in. He's shooting 10-20 on the year for 3 as their backup 4 man so the stroke is there. Seems like with Eli Rice playing well here and being buried that AA would be rotting on the bench here so seems like he made the right decision picking a college.

  18. Henderson has a nice golf course on the south end of town. when you drive I 80 and get to the Henderson interchange, I built the big lights that light up the interchange

  19. Don't think it makes a ton of difference who starts. Looks like the plan is splitting the 80 front court minutes pretty evenly between Mast Gary Allick.

  20. Wow. All these Henderson references. I know where it is. My mom was from Henderson. Enjoyed visiting my grandma when I was growing up. Loved riding my bike all over. Nice town.

  21. This is amazing! I agree, this is the funniest moment in sitcom history. But, November 22 is also the saddest day in our generation's lives. I choose to laugh at the turkeys!

  22. That was one of the most idiotic, selfish, game changing reds I have ever seen tonight with Dest. What the heck was he thinking. So dumb. What a hot head. His teammates telling him to shut up and he just keeps going.

  23. I actually thought about putting Sam in there also based on his game winning plays that he made down the stretch against Maryland, Wisky and one other team that I can’t remember.

    I'll just leave this here

Seems like foul trouble will be less of an issue this year than it has been in recent years, purely because of the numbers Fred has at his disposal.

  26. Another thing to add to this is that it works to have Gary come off the bench as a scoring punch since we're already starting our 3 main shot takers in Mast, Brice, and Keisei.

  28. It is December 3, 2023, NU and Creighton are tied 61-61 with 6 minutes remaining, who you do want on the court for the last 6 minutes (you cannot sub during this stretch)?

  29. It's Sam now. But I hope they keep putting Eli out there. What if he developed like JL did last year? What if he is quite a bit above average for a 6-8 freshman? It would be really nice come February if that's the case. But gotta keep playing him to find out.

  31. Perhaps Juwan will supplant Josiah in the lineup; but I will be a bit surprised if it happens. Josiah is our glue player, as is Sam. Their effort on the floor creates opportunity for teammates. Seeing it up close while in Sioux Falls was somewhat inspiring. He literally tipped passes and misses to teammates who were awarded steals and rebounds. His motor runs non-stop. If Juwan does supplant Josiah, I will understand it; but I do believe the rotation will not change the minutes played or the overall statistics.

  32. I'm in San Diego and I can tell you SDSU is thanking whatever God they pray too with how this is playing out. They really screwed the pooch with their attempt to leave and then their mea culpa and saying "We didn't want to LEAVE leave! We just want to practice leave in case someday we did want to LEAVE leave."

  33. With the caveat that any game you lay an egg to Creighton is on top of the suck list, this year where the Jays have a Final 4 type team isn't topping the 2014-15 year after we went to the NCAA tourney and they brought in a hot garbage squad that beat us by 10 at home. That was one big ass egg.

  34. We beat Duquesne and CSF, there'll be a LOT of eyes on that Creighton game 7-0 vs 7-0. That'll be a nationally talked about event should it happen. This'll be the year we DO NOT want to lay an egg in that CU game.

    CREIGHTON GAME DAY THREAD

The first qtr technical on Coley was a big plus for Creighton. We had possession in a close game and as a result we lost that, Maly hit two free throws and they maintained possession. They then took their lead to 9 but we gradually clawed back as we did the rest of the game whenever Creighton made a run. I wouldn't put too much negative at this point on Jaz and Maddie as both were playing hurt but still gutted it out. If you noticed both Moriarity and Hake didn't play much in the 2nd half and especially towards the end when the game was on the line. I still feel good about the team but we need to get everybody healed up. In my mind the 3 position is still up for grabs.

    Emotion vs Intensity

I don't care whether a player looks stoic or overexuberant as long as he hustles, performs up to his natural ability, and is a good teammate. Demeanor is irrelevant when compared with on-court results. Appearing to have too much disinterest or too much pizzazz Is often in the eye of the beholder.
