HUSKER POWER is here to stay...it will go on even without the signs. But to make it work right, the students have to be there...their absence over the holiday allowed some to revert back to the polite and pathetic volleyball clap. I will be honest, I came to the game with pretty moderate expectations. I thought that we should and would win, but beyond that...I just didn't know. What I saw made me happy. Not the win per se', not the blow out per se', rather the effort that was given. I had mentioned a couple of weeks ago that something was missing. It could have been heart. But it was certainly effort. Last night the effort was there. A routine loose ball near half court and AW III is laying out for it. Relentless effort after rebounds and so forth...the players may have thought they were working hard, but it was MIA. It was there for the Rutgers game and it was most certainly there for the majority of the Minnesota game. We OUTWORKED Minnesota. People can talk about talent, but we won the way we won due to our effort last night. Someone mentioned this and I will say it again, Watson, Jacobson and Morrow are ever improving. Each time out now, they look like they are taking their game up a notch. I thought McVeigh looked good with the exception of his shot. He had a few open looks that he simply needs to knock down. I know I have been saying for ages that our biggest surprise this year will likely be Jacobson. I saw him playing a couple of games in HS and knew he had game. But he still looks a bit limited on the floor, kind of like his feet are still bother him a bit. Yet his effort last night was exceptional. I do not want to overstate a win against a very pedestrian and struggling team, yet this was a very good win and if we keep improving, then the light at the end of the tunnel is no longer a runaway train.3 points -
I was also pleased with the energy on the bench. They were all smiles and laughter while Minnesota players seemed like they did not want to be there. I'm sure the outcome had something to do with both teams reaction, but this team is starting to look like a team that is having a lot of fun and really enjoying themselves and each other which is a lot different than last year's team. Just one little thing I saw that I really liked was on a Morrow dunk, Hammond was one of the first to jump on the bench and cheer him on. I know it probably does not mean much but those are the things I like to see.3 points

Also, still figuring out this website so i am not very good at replying to posts or liking them. But I would like to say that I really like this site. I am a huge Nebrasketball fan. All of the people I meet either only care about football (don't get me wrong I love Husker football too), are "Jayskers", or are a bandwagon fan of some bball powerhouse like Kansas, Duke, UK, etc. So it is really cool to be able to read and share thoughts about Nebrasketball with other people who seem to be pretty well informed.3 points -

Why did you stick Rutgers on the bottom? Just so the pessimists couldn't list us as an 0 for? This is in the order we play our next 6 games. We have the Scarlet Knights on the schedule twice I know. But the next five will be tough. The sixth shouldn't be. Seeing Rutgers on that list is like the old Sesame Street song "..these things go together. One of these things just doesn't belong."3 points -

I also have to say that I think the coaching staff has made some good changes as well. The rotation seems to be set nicely. The little press that the second unit puts on is really a nice change of pace. They ran an inbounds play last night that they scored off of. And I think we have done a better job of breaking the press. Neither Ritgers or Minny really pressed hard but we pushed the ball some and it was nicer.2 points -

Good to hear! He'll look great in red. So he has 2 offers now, right? And both teams are playing at home on the same night. Instead of taking an unofficial to watch one of his offered teams play a nationally ranked team - and lose on another buzzer shot - he chooses to take an unofficial to PBA to watch NU crush Minnesota. I'll take that as a good sign.2 points -
Our guards really passed the ball well last night - Glynn had the highlight pass, but I thought they all were pretty good. I was especially pleased with Webster's play - when he missed that first layup, I was concerned he would get down on himself and kind of disappear. Instead, a possession or two later he stepped up and hit the 3 from the corner, so it was good to see him put that first mistake out of his thoughts and remain confident. He had some really nice passes on drives, which was great too. And Minny's outside shooting was awful, but some of that was our defense. We were really dialed in last night, which is good to see with a young team. Sometimes youngsters get a taste of success like at RU and they relax against a team they should beat. NU obviously didn't do that last night. The freshmen seem to be getting more comfortable and more confident. Morrow has strung together 3 very good games in a row. Now, we'll see whether they can continue to stay confident as the competition ratchets back up in the next few weeks, but they're getting better. Yes, the Gophers & RU are terrible right now. But NU played to its level, rather than playing to their level. Very encouraging. 25+ point wins against conference teams are always impressive in my book. And honestly, the final score of both games doesn't really show how much NU dominated the play. Both games could've been much more lopsided.2 points

Regarding Bakari's minutes - both Benny and Glynn were spending time with the trainers when they were on the bench. They brought out an exercise bike for Watson to help him stay loose - and he was visibly limping at one point in the second half. I don't think it is anything serious - looking like maybe a thigh bruise or something. No idea what was wrong with Benny but the trainers spent time with him at the end of the bench during the first half. Bottom line I think Bakari got in early mostly because Benny and Glynn were both limited or unavailable at times. FWIW Hammond also went to the exercise bike before he came in - so I wonder if he has some minor injury issues also. That said I think his minutes are going to be very limited when Jacobson and Morrow are not in foul trouble - and I can't say that I disagree with that approach. I think they both had 2 fouls in the first half too. That could've benefitted bakari as well.2 points

I tried not to get too optimistic this year. Especially after the rough non con and then the poor start to conference play. I know Rutgers and Minnesota suck this year. BUT Only If we beat Maryland or Purdue at home Only If we win the rest of our home games. Only If we steal a few road wins. Only if we do not have any more bad losses and win a few in the Big 10 tourney I am so excited about the possibility of only if! Only If...2 points

Came out as sharp as I've seen Nebraska this entire season and played that way through most of the second half. Watson came out hot...early couple of steals, baskets...my goodness this pass Shavon was the GATA King tonight. I thought he would score 20+ against Rutgers. Minny instead. Andrew was stroking it...and still collecting rebounds on both ends Every game Morrow looks better...got pulled when Murphy abused him on the defensive end but gets more physical and confident every single game 6 guys with 8+ points tonight. A team effort. Last but not least, an offer to Ed Chang. https://twitter.com/EdChang_1/status/687128263076913152 GBR!1 point -

Are you talking about his form is off or that he's 1-10 from outside. If it's the latter, can I show you Andrew White's Kansas or TP's Texas Tech numbers to show you that 10 shots in garbage time doesn't matter. Also, it's not like Watson is some great shooter at this point.1 point -

I was thinking the same thing last night. I would have loved to get that Miami win at home. We were right there with Cincy too; if Shields isn't in foul trouble we probably win that game. Samford should have never happened, but things like that do happen with a young team. Northwestern should have also been a W, but once again blowing a decent lead is part of the learning curve with young teams imo. I have never really been to down on this team (or Tim Miles like some people have been) this year. Anyone who knows sports knows that this is par for the course when it comes to a young team. Add in our lack of size and this season seems about right so far. However, I believe in Tim Miles. He has exceeded expectations in 2/3 previous seasons. Last season was just bizarre when you take in to account all of the non-basketball related things going on with the team and the injuries to Leslee Smith and Moses Abraham. I still think the NIT is possible for this team, but I am not ready to talk about anything bigger until I see them win against some Big Ten teams that are not named Minnesota and Rutgers.1 point

I'd recommend putting up your arms because we're probably going to hit the part where the camera on the rides snaps your picture. I'm hoping that the Illinois game is the last few "click click click" on the up side before the bottom drops out on us in East Lansing.1 point

We'll be favored by Vegas to go 1-5 during that stretch. Illinos might be a wounded animal, but they're a wounded animal that just beat Purdue by 14 at home. As nice as I feel about the last two games, my head tells me 1-5 is the likely outcome. Sometimes I don't like my head.1 point -

There is no way we want Rachel off this team whether she can shoot or not. She is by far my favorite player on the team. She does all the little things for us that we need. We are just hitting a rough spot right now. They are very hard to watch right now but I think it's because we don't have enough depth.1 point
