  1. Did he look like this? (This may be a little too young of a joke...)

  2. I posted this somewhere else but proud of my son for his perspective. He asked last Saturday to go to the game like we had decided many game days before. When I told him that now that the team is winning you can't just walk up and get tickets. His response was something like, "That's not fair. Anyone that actually watched Nebraska lose to Maryland Baltimore Shore Coast State or whatever in person should be able to get tickets to any game they want to.

  3. What a lovely flood of memories that article brings up. Absolutely loved going to the Big 8 tournament at Kemper Arena. Great mix of crowds. Oh how the Big XII ruined it! I remember that weekend so, so fondly; Maybe not so vividly. My poor liver, God bless it, probably not so fondly. We really needed a win that first day to get off of the bubble. To do it against Billy Tubbs, with that d-bag Curry on their team who had taunted us at Devany that year, was a pleasure. Pike just lighting it up like a legend was awe inspiring. 'We can beat anyone with Pike,' was the feeling. I recall Donnie (Ice-T) Boyce giving the arrogant Jayhawk fans a scare on day one. Came so close to knocking them out. Oh those pitful Buffaloes! No CU fans EVER there. Ever! What would be the point really. Everyone wanted to play them on the first day. So funny sitting next to KU fans absolutely soiling themselves. We bumped into Kent Pavelka down at Westport. Boy were we happy to see him. I'm pretty sure we scared him. Only having tickets for day 1, since traditionally we always lost on day 1, we stumbled upon one of lifes simple pleasures, which was approaching fans decked out in losing teams garb and smugly asking them for their day 2 tickets, which they no longer needed. Reactions would range from, 'Go away prick' to 'I'll sell them for face' to 'I sure as hell don't need them, here'. The beatdown on Missouri in their backyard was surreal. Hated Jevon Crudup so much, but can't exactly recall why now. No Tigers or Jayhawks in the final meant tickets were unloading like nobodys buisness. Another great night at Westport. By the start of the OSU game, my liver could take no more. It was time for it to be over. The elation of winning was more than enough to provide relief. Never had I had such an enjoyable drive back from K.C.

  4. OK guys I feel like I need to do this. I was the one that came down from my seat during the Penn State game. I should not of done that and I realize what a stupid and unsportsmanlike move it was. Let me clear up a few things though. I never once yelled at the player. I yelled at the assistant coach. I never threatened or used vulgar language. If I had, I would be booted for life. I was talked to by the security guard right after the incident, basically with him telling me not to do it again. After the game I was confronted by a higher up event guy asking if I was the one that did it. I fessed up and apologized. He said they talked to the coach and the player to confirm what I had said. The coach and the player both defended me for my comments and basically saved me from getting the boot. I understand how bad it looked and the seriousness of what happened. I will be at the Wisconsin game cheering loudly as always but I will never leave my seat again. Please do not compare me to that kid last night. Right when I saw it I feared comparisons would be made on here and the football recruiting site I am a member of. Once again I completely understand how bad it looked and I am ashamed of it. I got caught up in the moment as I am one of the biggest Husker basketball fans you will ever find. Been going to games since the early nineties when my dad took me to get tickets at the Bob when the skers were practicing. Rich King was walking to the locker room and saw me. Lifted me up on his shoulders and talked to me for 5-10 minutes. I'll never forget that. Instantly a fan for life. I have gone to hundreds of games since. Including a trip to Vegas in the late nineties to watch us get beat by Arizona. I was in High School at the time so any of the usual fun Vegas activities were over my age grade. I saved up my money to go out there solely to watch the Skers play ball. It kills me to read these reactions to my stupid move and to think I made our fans or program look bad. I have sent a letter to the Athletic Department apologizing as well. I hope to put this behind me and move on to enjoy what is absolutely one of the most exciting times in Husker history. Thanks for reading everyone and I really appreciate you coming to my defense Norm. Have a good day and GO BIG RED!!!

  11. By the way, I'm not planning on standing the whole game. I applaud the students, most of whom are half my size and less than half my age, for standing the whole time. But, geez, I'm going to cheer loud from my seat until the action gets intense, and call it good. I won't leave early; I won't complain if others in front of me want to stand; and that's going to have to be good enough.

  12. The best part about America: 1) Brewsky's can choose to have a Creighton-exclusive bar. 2) People can choose not to patronage Brewsky's. Second best part about America: 1) Brewsky's has a product/service they are able to provide to the consumers. 2) People influence the demand of that product/service and Brewsky's decisions are influenced by that.

  13. I go along with half of what you say. The other half I reject entirely. I don't expect my grocery store to be Creighton free. I shop at Scheels and they sell Creighton stuff. And, yeah, that would be silly to demand my grocery store (or sporting goods store) not sell any merchandise from the rival school. But it's stupid to be a bar/restaurant owner in Lincoln and/or Omaha and go all in with one program to the exclusion of another. Especially when you're going all-in with the school that has fewer fans. And I mean it's not even close. Have a Creighton flag for all I care. Air the Creighton games for all I care. But you damn well better pay some homage to the state school that has a 95,000 seat football stadium just a few blocks away. Being THE "Creighton place" in an area without a lot of Creighton fans is kinda business suicide, don't you think? Okay I agree with Norm on this. However there will be no IOWA stuff! Is everybody okay with that?

Well, you could have Dimes pin all the official visitors at the top..then you could just pay attention to those that are pinned and ignore the rest. Yeah, like that's how you got over 11k posts...by only paying attention to the really vital stuff!

    Kaylee Page

Kansas girls sub state games started this week. Kaylee Page's Wamego team won their first round of substate last night, and will advance and play Saturday. If they win Saturday they will advance to the state tournament for 4a (6a is biggest size in ks) which will be held in Salina, Kansas next week. Wamego's main competition as they try to win the 4a state title again this year will be Bishop Miege (kc) (beat Jess Shepard's team in a holiday tourney earlier this year); Andover Central and Paola. Wamego has a good chance to win again this year, but the Page sisters don't have nearly as much help as they had a year ago when they won but graduated a couple kids. I haven't seen any recent stats on Kaylee or Lanie. Emily Wood's salina central team is 19-1 and the 1 seed in their sub state. They won by a lot against a bad 8 seed last night, and then play again v Newton on Saturday. Newton is ranked 9 in 5a. If Central wins they advance to the state tourney in Topeka next week. 5a is loaded in ks this year. Leavenworth is probably the favorite as they have 3 kids Tyler Johnson, Tosha Jones, and Rachel Blackburn who have BCS offers. All 3 kids are 2015s and over 6 feet tall. KU, KSU and OSU are watching them all, and I think Blackburn was at an NU gm this year, but in my opinion Tyler Johnson is the best of the bunch. Her dad played with Wayman Tisdale at OU many years ago. Central has a chance though as Emily is having a great year (avg 16 ppg) and her teammate Shaelyn Martin is a 6'1 athlete similar to maddie simon who has signed to play at KSU. Wichita Kapun and Acquinas are also very good. Kapun has a guard committed to Drake, and a 6'3" post who turned down Missouri Valley offers in bball to play volleyball at Notre Dame.

So far pretty good day for us in terms of bubble teams. I also want some "lower" seeds to lose in case we win we maybe move upa bit. KSU lost and they are struggling and a low seed already. SMU lost again...they will be interesting. Okie State lost so that is good. Wichita State wins which we need them to win tomorrow too Stanford pulls out a win vs Utah by 1. Bummer there. Nova kills GTown which is very good for us Cincy beats Rutgers (RPI/SOS) St. John's beats Marq by 1 (bummer here) Miami beats WF (RPI/SOS) Arkansas getting beat big at half Mizz losing big Oregon losing as of now

Just imagine this in any other setting (him approaching you while you're doing your job): - He climbs on stage as a symphony is playing and tells the conductor what he's doing wrong. - He dives into the swimming pool to tell Michael Phelps he's doing the breaststroke incorrectly. - He storms into the backroom of a restaurant to tell the cook he did a poor job. - He runs up to the podium during the presidential speech to tell him he disagrees with his viewpoints. The list goes on and on...

  26. Our school has an eligibility rule. Any kid with two or more classes below a 63% (D) can't participate in any extra curricular activities (athletics, drama, dances, etc).If 63% is a D, what do you have to do to fail?Sixty or below. Call me old school but I think you should have to reach a descent freethrow shooting percentage before you can pass a class.

Problem is, a lot of times we discuss a recruit that we think we have a good shot at for months and then one day it is announced suddenly that they are visiting. I agree. Like I said, I'm just getting antsy for that next commit. OK Norm, I feel like I am psychoanalyzing you a bit today... But you are living in a Kamdy world where we are all 21 and "this board (is) like you're at a bar when you were in college. You talked to a bunch of girls (each recruit posted) but by the end of the night there was only one, maybe two if you were lucky, that you ended up with....(Well) This is just our version of the bar. We can get excited, upset, frustrated etc about each one just like we all did when we were young with the ladies." The difference is in your wonderful wishful world you would have, let's say 3 "new commits" in a week...and (if you were fortunate) one or more of them may have given you a special release 3 or more times in an evening...(and perhaps she returned for repeat performances thereafter) Unfortunately, this recruiting world gives us about 3 releases a year (no repeats)....not as bad as a Black Widow Spider...but it takes some discipline and getting used to...and Miles to go before I sleep!

  36. I'm not in a wheelchair so I can't speak for those who are, but my general impression of those who are is that they wouldn't be offended. They realize you're not talking about them. Most people don't have as thin of skin as the PC crowd expects them to have. And those who are mobility-impaired realize that the sign would lose a good deal of its impact if it had to read "Nobody who is physically able to stand Sits Today!!!" This is good Norm. I really like all of this "no sit Sunday" stuff. But there are reasonableness things that I hope people understand. My 84 year old mother is going to be at the game and she can't stand up for the whole game. She sits in row one - so no worries that anyone will be standing in front of her (except courtside seats which I will address). I assume no one is going to criticize 80 year old people for sitting down and watching as long as they are not telling others to sit down. I will say that if anyone has courtside seats they need to ignore this "mandate". One of the earlier games there were a couple people standing in those seats and because of the proximity of the seats to the court they really block the view for everyone in the first few rows - even if those people are standing up. So elderly, disabled and courtside ticket holders all need to be "exempted" from the "no sit" rule.

  37. Not for this one. Sunday is all about this year. Not paying honor to the past, but cementing the legacy of this year's team. Next year's team has the opportunity to be one of the best in school history. They can bust these out on Legend's weekend next year.

Talk to the AD. He is usually leading the rush of fans trying to get out of the arena early. I hardly believe the AD is leaving the PBA. If he's like Boehm, he's outside their locker room or in the tunnel offering congrats as the team and coaches enter. You may be right - but it sure doesn't appear that way. When you see Boehm or other athletic department people at the games it is pretty obvious they are working and moving around the arena for that purpose. SE just is in a seat until the rest of the crowd starts to leave and he goes out at basically that time. He does go out the north side (NW corner) where no one else can go - not the locker room / courtside booster exit - but the same end at least so may be he is going to the locker room in an indirect way. But, that is also the exit direclty toward the administration parking spots so it at least makes it look like he is leaving. I don't want to make a great big deal out of it and as I said you may be right about what he is doing. But if you are right - he exits in a strange way. Why doesn't he go over to the exit the team will go out and stand there and wait and watch the end of the game. That what you sometimes see Boehm or Paul Meyers doing. The timing of when he leaves is also odd - not the same each game - just when it first appears the outcome is decided. Again - I don't know for sure what he is doing. But if I was in his position I would be aware enough about the appearance of things to not make it look like I was just heading home before the game was over - whether or not that was in fact what I was doing. Eichorst goes to the locker room to greet the team as they come off the court.

We have to say it. Iowa lacks leadership, lacks toughness, and lacks composure. For someone with a baseball name you sure jump to conclusions way too early for a sport that records arent the end all be all 10 games into a season. Remember this team was one win away from a 2 seed in a regional last year and started 0-7.
