Couldn't tell for absolute certain, but it sure looked to me like there wouldn't have been a collision at all if Galloway hadn't grabbed him.

 

Watch it. Tell me if I'm wrong.  Galloway got away with a lot last night. He was grabbing and holding Keisei nearly all night long and didn't pick up a foul until way late.

Agree; however in real time, I sure didn't disagree with the call.  I did see a few flops by Indiana last night.   Not while shooting; but while defending.  I loved our crowd, by the way.  We seemed to let the refs know that there were some poopie moves taking place.

They shot better than us from 2&3, had more rebounds, more assists, refs killing us in first half, Gary had an off night scoring and we still kicked their asses. 

 

Great defense, hustle, coaching, all around team effort

 

Love every minute of it.

• With the win, the Huskers improved to 12-2 on the season, and matched NU’s best 14-game mark since the 1990-91 team opened with a 13-1 mark.
• With the win, NU is 18-5 in its last 23 games dating back to Feb. 1, 2023
• The Huskers snapped a seven-game losing streak to Indiana dating back to 1999. The 16-point margin was NU’s largest against the Hoosiers since NU’s first win in the series in 1920.
•  Nebraska’s 86 points marked the ninth time this season the Huskers scored 80 or more points. NU has now won 16 straight games when scoring 80+ points.
• Keisei Tominaga led NU with a season-high 28 points, including four 3-pointers. It was his third 20-point game of the season and 13^th of his career. It was two shy of his season high set last season against Penn State.
• Brice Williams reached double figures for the 12^th time this season with 15 points and a career high four steals. His previous nest was three steals set on three other occasions, most recently at Minnesota on Dec. 6. Williams is now five points away from 1,000 for his career.
• Nebraska finished with 15 steals, the second straight game with 15 or more steals. In addition to Williams, Jamarques Lawrence also had a career-high four steals in the win.
• Josiah Allick tied his season high with eight rebounds (also vs. Lindenwood).
• C.J. Wilcher with his third straight double-figure effort of the bench with 11 points, all coming in the first half. NU has had at least one double-figure scorer off the bench in 12 of 14 games.

One thing I noticed on watching the replay today - the number of guys we had on the floor diving for loose balls was incredible - and we won way more than our share of those 50/50 balls. And it wasn't just one guy - it was several guys. 

 

Thinking back to roughly 24 months ago when Denim enrolled early and within a couple of weeks Fred mentioned how impressed he was that Denim was willing to dive on the floor for loose balls during practice - I took that comment as being no one else was willing to do it, which was eye-opening about what was going on inside the program.

 

Every floor burn we absorbed last night was a clear sign of the crazy culture flip that we've made in 2 years.

It seemed like, with few exceptions, that every time IU hit a 3 to either maintain some momentum (first half) or try to gain momentum back (second half), Nebraska immediately answered with a 3 to shut the door.  And as someone posted earlier in the thread, they were generally all good looks, nothing forced - either on the break or within the framework of the offense.  NU had some short little scoring droughts here and there but maintained the 10 point+/- lead by shutting down IU during those droughts or answering them when they did score.  GBR.  Now go and humiliate the Stinkin' Vadgers.

That exchange was right in front of me.   Really odd for a ref to talk to a fan that long - but I don't think it ever got "heated".    Made me wonder if they knew each other.   I do think the fan was questioning the calls (Oglesby was awful last night - made several really bad calls including the one right before that timeout) and Ogleby was defending himself - but they both had smiles on their faces during most of the conversation.

Was right in front of my and I thought it was a flop immediately.   Of course I am biased :).    Was not as bad as the floppy guy we played against a few games ago (can't remember which team off the top of my head) but for whatever reason refs seem to be letting players get away with those flops again after purportedly being a "point of emphasis" to stop previously.

I’ve come to the realization that point of emphasis really means “don’t do it until mid-December.

Good point and contrast it with a couple years ago when I can remember Bryce McGowens standing still waiting for a ball rolling towards him from 5 feet away while opposing team players from 15 feet away came and got it first.    That is why - regardless of record - this years team (and last years as well) are so much more fun to watch than the teams Fred had his first couple years.

 

Without disagreeing with your reference to Denim Dawson (who did always play very hard) I credit it more to the attitude that we got when Emmanuel Bandoumel and Juwan Gary joined the team.   Those two were "effort" leaders from the beginning and I think Juwan very much still plays that leadership role with this team, both on the floor and in the locker room.   One thing I noticed last night is that well after most everyoone else had left the floor and Keisei was waiting for the TV interview Juwan came all the way out to half court to give him 5 and tell him good game.   Showed to me that Juwan is great in that leadership role.

 

Related to that another thing I noticed was the late in the game after Keisei got really gassed and came of the game.  Usually whenever a player comes out they go all the way to the end of the bench slapping hands with the whole team.   When Keisei came out that time the guys at the end motioned to him to just sit down because you could see he was really tired.   But then after he was sitting and the game continued first CJ Wilcher and then Reink Mast made a point of getting up and walking down to where Keisei was sitting near the scorers table to slap his hand and say "good job" (or something to that efffect).   Evidence to me of a team that enjoys playing with each other.   I also saw a moment early in the 2nd half game where Keisei and Brice had a moment together like that on the court.   I always thought the posts early in the year about conflicts between Brice and Keisei were overblown.   Both of them play with a scoreers mentality so they are always looking for their shot first - but I don't think there is any significant animosity or jealousy between them and I think they both know that having the other one on the team only serves to open up opportunities for themselves because the defence has to share the focus.

JA now has a defined role on this team which will get him a lot of minutes. I noticed after the flagrant when he hit both of his shots he stepped away and raised his arms like finely. Very self deprecating moment there. 

I don't care what the announcers said, that was a flagrant 2. It wasn't his momentum, he was intentionally reaching, first making contact with his face and mouth (almost fish hooked him) and then pulling him down by his neck violently. 

 

KT's game has evolved so much,  especially that floater. He moves so well without the ball. What he does really well is dish the ball. Teams are so hyper-focused on his ability to make 3's that it leaves gaps in the defense for him to give up the ball for easy buckets by his teammates. He's also an underrated defender. Does a great job of jumping lanes and in general being a pest.

 

Props to  CJ for always continuing to battle. He's playing his role. 

Any word on his injury.

 

I know for a fact that RM was no where near a 100%. He shouldn't have played. His presence has to be accounted for by our opponent.

 

Quiet 15 for Bryce and 12 for JL.

 

9 players with 10+ minutes.

 

Playing a team with the kind of length and height of IU and getting a win was big and will help us down the road. We where essentially even on rebounds with them.

This. He could have easily caused a catastrophic injury with that kind of play. To me it was ridiculous not to call that a flagrant 2. Ridiculous.

Yeah Allick is strong and likely won’t ever show weakness in situations like that. Another player with a different response to what happened to him pry would have gotten the call over the hump to a flagrant 2. Allick didn’t stay down long or roll around on the court or over sell it at all. It shouldn’t make a difference, but I think it does. I’m also okay with Allick showing the other team he’s not going to let that affect him.

We all need to appreciate just the kind of resilience CJ Wilcher has had to get to this point.  Dude started 24 of 32 games for us last year, and got recruited over.  Slid down our depth chart.

 

Instead of pouting, he’s actually played the best basketball of his career and has embraced his role:

 

FG%: 49.4% this year (39.9% last year)

3PT%: 40.0% this year (31.3% last year)

 

He has gone from 27 mpg to 16 mpg and is matching his production from last year while also cutting his turnovers significantly.  He is a revelation.

Maybe Collison can bring Eric Chenowith with him the next time he goes to a game.  In the 99 game in Lincoln, Kansas was up pretty big early in the first half, and Chenowith made a steal and went down for a very impressive dunk.  Someone in my section yelled "Not bad!....For a pu**y!".  Venson Hamilton outclassed him up and down the court for the rest of the night and I never saw him have a good game again.
