I vote for 1982 at #1 Missouri. Kent P remembers that one. Absolutely unreal, especially considering where this team was 10 days ago. I was wondering the same thing and that's the first game I thought of though that was the year before I started paying close attention so I don't remember it at all. The 2nd was the upset of Kansas with Wilt Chamberlain long before I was born. Seriously, this team without its best player, but playing well enough you'd think Wisconsin wasn't looking ahead, it's hard to imagine a more unexpected win. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 Good lord. Very proud. Nicely done. If nothing else, we should be building momentum for next year. Quote

Chuck Taylor Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 I'm so confused by this season: 1. We have the most talented roster ever, we're going to be awesome! 2. Oh, maybe we need to get some kinks out, like better layup lines. 3. God, we suck, Fred is a horrible coach. 4. No, we REALLY suck, so our talent was completely overrated. Lat, Kensei, etc. don't belong on a Big Ten roster. 5. Hey, now we're really good! So where do we go for 6? Fred finally showed he's a great coach by overcoming mediocre talent? Or the players finally were able to overcome bad coaching? Ron Mexico and cornfed24-7 1 1 Quote

Sorry to hear. I'll hit you up next time I'm in Iowa City and buy you a beer. A number of us on here have been through this and know how it feels. Saw a guy at the store today that I went to high school with and fuck he looked old. Next thing you know, you no longer have relatives living from the generation older than yours. It's a sobering feeling. The pain subsides over time. I miss my parents terribly; I'm so thankful I have kids. Red Don, jayschool, hal9000 and 1 other 2 2 Quote

The one where the ref by the Wisconsin bench overrules a charge call? The one where the ball goes off Wisconsin, but they don't overturn it? The one where Verge gets a T for looking back at the ref? dustystehl Posted March 7, 2022 Report Posted March 7, 2022 (edited) With a chance to clinch an outright conference championship, Wisconsin lost at home to the last place team who was without their leading scorer, had their fourth best player ejected minutes into the second half, and had their second best player on the bench with foul trouble most of the second half. That is just so awesome. And now, I get to root for Iowa to lose in order for Wisconsin to just share the conference title? All things considered, including another possible last-place finish, it couldn't be much better than this. Edit: One thing that would have made it better was if we got to see Brad Davison cry on TV. Popular Post throwback Posted March 7, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted March 7, 2022 (edited) I have to say something about the play where Trey was ejected. I know some won't agree with me, but that's OK. It's unfortunate Davis suffered an injury on the play, but Trey is not to blame. First, Davis & Trey's feet tangled up at mid-court. The official does not blow the whistle until Davis is beyond the free throw line. He took 4 steps before the whistle sounds. If the official wanted to call that foul, he should've called it much quicker. It would've eliminated the play at the rim. Now, that was a foul. I guarantee Trey's intent was not to tangle feet with Davis, but we don't officiate on intent. As Davis continues the play and stumbles to the hoop, Trey goes up to try to block the shot. Both players are still going in large part because of the incredibly late whistle. Davis doesn't go up as strongly as you would anticipate, which is understandable, because he's stumbling and may have an injured knee. Trey gets way up in the air, realizes Davis is stumbling/falling rather than jumping strongly, and Trey knows he's in no-man's land. I have never been in that position because of a less-than-stellar vertical jump, but I know the look on the face. I believe he is looking toward Davis' head because he is concerned about where he's going to land. I don't think he is intending to elbow Davis in the head. You look at the video from the side and can come to one conclusion. You look at the end zone video and can come to another conclusion. Trey made contact with the head and deserves a flagrant 1, although I'm sure that wasn't his intent. But to eject him on that because one video angle caught him looking toward Davis' head was just an extension of the poor officiating with the late whistle that led to the problem to start with. Then again, this crew apparently believes it can read minds, so I could be way off base here. /rant Edited March 7, 2022 by throwback dustystehl, ReidStag, basketballjones and 7 others 2 8 Quote

To be fair, Hoiberg hasn't proven it yet. He has shown, and reinvigorated, that it CAN be done. I'm just glad we're riding this high at the very end of a tragic season. Because Hoiberg was and is still my coach going into next season (as Trev has made that clear), and I was dreading sitting through another season of people finding every reason for us to lose rather than a reason to believe. There's still a lot more work to do, and I'm excited to see how this (and the next) team responds. HuscurAdam and thrasher31 1 1 Quote
