http://www.bracketmatrix.com/ You can read above how devastating that loss was yesterday by me. But….Nebraska is in 72/85 brackets and under an 11 seed still…..it can still be done. I don’t care if we deserve it or not. I want to make it and have a chance to knock off my #1 life bucket list item.5 points

Really disappointing outcome today. The run in the 2nd half was fun - but should not have been necessary. Obviously we lost this game in the first half by not coming out ready to play hard from the beginning. Morgan was obviously in the group that made the run in the 2nd half - but his first 5 minutes of play in the 1st half were about as bad of a 5 minutes as we have gotten from anyone all year. We definitely lack movement on offense but wonder how much that is due to cutters not being rewarded. There were multiple times today where cutters broke free but we never made the pass. We perhaps got spoiled by how good of post passers Walker and Mast were - but now it is completely the opposite - our post players cannot pass at all. Really frustrating to watch. I think Brice needs to be more selfish - but like most opponents Minnesota was really making him the focus of their defense. We really just don't have anyone else that is a significant offense threat - maybe Connor at times but clearly no one else. Juwan was REALLY upset after this game. Just stayed on the court and looked very emotional - at least for him. He did give great effort in the last 15 minutes and I think he really felt we needed this one (as did I). I feel bad for him because he has been a great player for us. I get why Fred left in the 5 guys were on the floor making the run - but I do think they got gassed a little bit and it may have been a good idea to at least use Berke and Rollie a little. But again I understand his decision to basically just go with 5 guys when we finally had something working. Just sick to my stomach that we lost this one. I really like Brice and Juwan in particular and want them to have another tourney trip this year at least.5 points

I have no problems. We were down 1. If we miss the shot, and Minnesota gets the rebound, we have time to foul a poor FT shooting team. The problem was after the make. Brice went for the steal instead of getting back. This made everyone converge on the ball handler, leaving their hot shooter wide open.4 points

That's one of the things that bothers me with Coach Williams. Basketball 101 says if a player is hot, you try and them the ball, you don't take them out unless they are tired or in foul trouble. This is something that Williams always seems to do.3 points -

This is kinda like not being able to stop thinking about the ex-girlfriend that broke your heart. Eventually you just need to let it go... looking at bracketologists who updated their stuff late last night or this morning... most still have us in and some still have us not playing in Dayton... some have us the first or second team out. It's March 2nd and we still get to think about this stuff. If nothing else, these two years have been more similar to 90's Nebrasketball than any other two year run in our history. In a 9 year span we went to 5 NCAA tourneys and 4 NITs. Had a team win 26 games. Won a conference tournament. Won an NIT. Produced multiple NBA players. To outsiders, it all gets overshadowed because we never won a tourney game, but I'd take another decade like that in a heartbeat.3 points -
Welp. If we go 2-0 from here and Indiana loses to both Oregon and Ohio St, we can still get to #9 seed. Otherwise, we're playing on Wednesday ... hopefully. Go 0-2 and we can still miss the B1G tourney ... and the chances are pretty high that we will. Most of those teams toward the bottom have multi-team tiebreakers over us. That loss today was a killer. In fact, even if we beat OSU, we won't be guaranteed a spot in the B1G tourney immediately. We might have to wait to see some other results later in the week. Because of how poorly we fare in the multi-team tiebreakers against the lower teams, we still might need to beat Iowa to make the tourney. So we have to beat OSU to keep alive any hope of getting a day one bye. But we may have to beat Iowa to make sure we're in the tourney at all. For the games Sunday thru Tuesday, the games that really affect us are Indiana at Oregon and UCLA at NW. If we beat OSU and NW loses to UCLA, that won't quite clinch a spot in the B1G tourney, but we'll be in pretty good shape barring 3 or 4 major upsets in other games down the stretch. If we beat OSU and Indiana loses to Oregon, that still keeps alive for the #9 seed. If we lose to OSU, it very likely will take a win over Iowa to make the B1G tourney. We might sneak in as the #15 seed by going 0-2 if USC loses its last two games (home v Wash / at UCLA); otherwise 0-2 almost certainly leaves us out. More great news on a shit sandwich of a day.3 points

It takes a special kind of awful effort to shut out Garcia in the first half and to give up 1 FT and still have to rally to get the halftime deficit to 9 against that team. The defense has its own problems -- how do we commit 1 foul in the first half on a poor FT shooting team that was dicing us up inside? why do we let them completely dictate the pace for the first 25 minutes with zero adjustments? -- but I have no idea what this team is trying to do on offense. Why do you spend the first 4 minutes forcing every ball into Meah and then never do it again? The first half was a contest to see which offensive player could stand in one place longer. Not sure why we weren't extending the game with fouls in the final 90 seconds when they'd have had three straight 1&1s. And that decision to try for the 10-second call worked, but just another head-scratching decision. Aren't we better off trying to force them to hit 1&1s and extending the number of possessions? Somebody who knows the analytics would have to weigh in on that one, but I have to imagine the percentages are pretty low getting the 10-second call vs them potentially missing the front end of the 1&1. Minnesota just beat us on our home floor with 3 made FTs. One of the most disgusting losses I can remember in a while.3 points

Had an amazing vantage point today. Very disappointed how the majority of the team came out - just no urgency at all. Our defensive effort was so bad. Berke’s injury must’ve injured his shooting ability, he’s now 1-16 the past 2 games. Our big men really aren’t complete players. Brax has size and can dunk and alter shots, but can’t shoot beyond 2’ Morgan plays hard but is sometimes clumsy and makes bad passes. Berke is a head scratcher. Shows flashes of being something but also airballs and shoots off the side of the hoop. Major major major overhaul needs to happen. Troy and the collective have to decide if a PG and Big men are equally as important as a Left Tackle and Safety.2 points -

We are also at best 5-5 at home in league. Embarrassment By the way - one good thing about next year - in theory no “wasted scholarships” as in, nobody on injury redshirt (mast), no freshman redshirting (assuming our incoming kid plays right away) I think not having 3 scholarships this year was restrictive, too. plus we won’t waste one next year like we did last on Uhlis - who might be the most Division II PG to ever play at Nebraska. Guy makes me pine for boogie Coleman. bottln line - we can’t waste scholarships anymore2 points

As long as we don't plan on running the offense through that player. Hopefully, like last year, Mast (and/or maybe a transfer PG) is the primary decision maker and the guy the offense revolves around. Even when Brice brought the ball up the court last year, the offense was ran through Mast with a focus on getting Keisei (and our other shooters) shots. And Brice was able to play his role of an efficient/lower volume, smooth three level scorer. Worked well. We were 4th in the Big Ten in ppg (3rd in point differential behind Purdue and Illinois). 1st by a wide margin in 3FG made per game. And despite being an undersized and relatively unathletic team, rebounding wasn't an issue as we were 3rd in the conference in that department. At the moment in college basketball, players with the archetype of Brice and JPJ - ball dominant wing scorers - are essentially role players on good/great offensive teams. On mediocre to bad offenses, they are the sole focal point of the offense. On those great offensive teams, these players play that role of a three level scorer that Brice did for us last year (Kon Knueppel at Duke, John Tonje at Wisconsin, RJ Luis at St. John's). Of the currently ranked teams that run their offense through one player as the primary decision maker, they are all either floor general point guards who can get into the teeth of the defense (Braden Smith, Cam Jones, etc) or versatile 4s and 5s who can score and have great vision (Johnni Broome, Cooper Flagg, Danny Wolf, etc). Other teams like Michigan State, BYU, Wisconsin, etc don't run their offense through just one guy. Those point guards and versatile 4s/5s have the ability to make their teammates better. It's tough for Brice, he doesn't have much offensive talent around him at all, but he's also not able to make his teammates better. Again, that's not a knock on him. It's just not his game (I love Brice. One of the best we've ever had at Nebraska). Michigan had the gameplan of playing Brice straight up (and not always with their best perimeter defender), basically allowing him to get 25 points but making him use up 25-30 possessions to get there, and just lock up all of our other players, who are pretty easily lockable. Brice's game isn't to get into the lane, draw two defenders and either kick out for an open three or dump it off to a big for a dunk. He has played his role admirably this year. More efficiently than Petteway and JPJ did in similar roles. Obviously the roster construction isn't his fault. Just by having Mast back and more shooters (probably), the offense will look entirely different next year.2 points -
My hope and I'm sure the hope of the coaching staff is Janikowski and Frager can be those players. A redshirt year will let them get the defensive philosophy figured out. Another must need is to get players who do not hang their head when things aren't going right. I love Gary and Brice, but they aren't ones to get the team going when we are sulking.2 points

We waited too long to press. I love Brice. We are going to miss him. That last defensive possession was not smart. I know you are on emotion, but don't go for the steal on the inbounds play and get back. Rigsby was 16 - 66 from 3 this season and goes 5 - 6 from 3 today. Go figure. Why can't our Gavin do that.2 points -

She had offers, most notable were UNLV, Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly. Sort of interesting. We were late on her and she doesn't have any major programs after her. I have guesses; but no harden facts: * she is a starter on the #1 team in the country. Due to the strength of the program and talented roster, is she overlooked * is she not able to fully display her talent * did she play on an aau team and if not, was her talents on display in the summer * is she the weak link on an otherwise strong talented team, and is she being carried by that other talent * does she have grade or transcript issues * does she have an injury history * is she a late developer * was there an assumption that she was firmly locked in elsewhere Fact is, she looks talented. She looks the part. The video I've seen shows she can play the game. Perhaps we found a great fit to our program. We can sure hope so!1 point -

Our three-point defensive philosophy is terrible. Generally teams have players that can make open threes. We leave guys open and they get confidence. USC game was the same with a player that hardly shoots them but making multiple against us.1 point

I was traveling to a High School District BB game and can only give my impression from listening to Kent and Jake. Why we are not giving great effort from the beginning is a mystery to me. Whether we are barely in or barely out right now is a moot point. Tuesday night is a de facto "win and stay-in" for us. A loss and we will have to not only beat Iowa but go on a little run in the BIG tournament. Remarkably, win the final two and we are almost certainly in, barring a plethora of bid stealers. Adding another Q1 road win, which would give us three Q1 road wins, is something the other teams on the bubble can't match. They can all match our bad losses.1 point -

It sure seems the officiating in games has drastically changed from the beginning of conference play to now. Refs just let so much go and we aren’t getting near the fouls at the rim as we did earlier in year and I think that’s a big reason why we are struggling to score. Earlier in year we were making so many more FTs a game then we are lately. I remember Morgan getting hacked in face and it should of been Garcia’s 5th but maybe that is why they didn’t call the foul. Garcia only scoring 9 points in this one and us still losing really hurts. Man. This season is going to sting for awhile if we don’t make the tournament.1 point -

Nissley at 6'0 has the height but does not have the foot speed. Hake has the foot speed but at 5'8" can get into trouble with defenders 4-5 inches taller. Agree Moriarty really never leveled up from where she was at in HS. That happens sometimes players that look promising in HS just can not translate it to the college game.1 point -
I don't think so. That sounds excuse -ey The players and the coaches very well know the importance of getting their focus on come game day. That should be more well practiced than any ball handling or shooting technique. And one would think that four seniors want very badly to go out on a high note - and the underclassmen want that for the seniors. And going to sleep on defense for 20 minutes is not moot. Wait, actually it was not just 20 minutes, it was game long, it just got worse as the minutes ticked on. Another topic - the recurring struggle to contain guards who are long, "athletic", ond and quick-nimble. In her freshman season and midway thru the next I really thought - or at least hoped - that Moriarty would fit that mold and be that weapon. She had the size, ball handling, speed, quickness, explosiveness, under the basket agility ... i thought the tool box was full. We saw glimpses of it every year, but only that. Yesterday, watching UW's Ladine, I was thinking "she is the picture of what I hoped Moriarty would become"1 point

Iowa still has the Catlin Clark affect going for them. If they start wining more consistently it will continue. IHOP again, and I agree we need to change the nature of out team, speed, quickness, etc etc, rebounding....
