  1. KSU had moved up to 75 in the NET BEFORE their win over Baylor this evening. They should get a nice bump from that too. So as of now we are 3-3 in Q1. That is a top 15 in the nation Q1 record. There are only 20 teams in the nation with 3+ Q1 wins.

  2. I sort of laughed when I read the Rutgers game thread. I don't know why, but they only talk about basketball stuff. If they reciprocate and read our thread, we confuse them by posting mostly song videos

  3. I might have shared this before. If so, I apologize. Starkweather's route to Wyoming was on Highway 34. No I 80 back then. My family had a farm and a farmhouse right on Highway 34, just outside of Hampton. They drove right past our house. I say "our" me being a gleam in Dad's eye. . You just never know.

  6. I agree completely. Our board has personality. We have a lot of insiders and coaches/experts that post all the pertinent information. Those of us who aren't, try to keep it entertaining. I think it's a perfect mix!

  7. Back then it wasn't Helen's. It was Jack's. However, Helen and her husband Don owned the Texaco gas station and cafe/bar at that time, located on the east end of town. You would have known it as the Korner Bar. They could have eaten there, being the first place they'd see. I've talked to people who worked there when the Interstate was being built. They made a killing on food and gasoline! Timing is everything. Killing was probably the wrong word...

  10. Kinda surprised by the anger and dismay from folks about this loss. This is NOT “same old Nebraska”. Same old Nebraska hasn’t ever been here, coming out to a half-dead road crowd after beating the #1 team in the country by 16 three days prior. ANY team - and I do mean any - was going have a letdown there. And there is not enough of a talent delta to overcome it. Teams come out flat. Lose on the road. Coaches get outcoached. It happens. It’s a 31-game season. And I have to tell you, there’s a 4-game stretch coming down the road that looks like an 0-4 deal (look at our schedule, you’ll see it). But that doesn’t mean we can’t still go 22-9 and be a safe tourney pick. So let’s all just keep our poo together. This wasn’t one of the games projected as a win, folks. Sure, you could say it was a “winnable” game. So is any game. Michigan St, Kansas St, Indiana, and Purdue were likely losses and went 4-0 against them. So let’s not lose perspective. We will give Rutgers a good game. They will be ready to go. I swear, some of you act like you haven’t been a masochist NUBB fan for very long. If you have, you should know better and enjoy the 13-4 start! GBR!

  11. Tonight's one of my favorite matchups of the year. Rutgers rejected my grad school app, and I'm still bitter about it, even though it wasn't in my top 3. I just don't take rejection well....;) So let's give 'em heck and make them very sad tonight, Huskers.

  13. i want to see something offensively other than 1) throwing to AM in the lane and 2) just coming across the center line, making two or three passes and then casting up a three. That is pretty when it works but it can't be counted on working. And when it doesn't it sets us up for getting far behind real fast.

His scoring is down a little this year simply because this team isn't as good at feeding the big man. Player to watch: Aundre Hyatt The Senior Forward is Rutgers most reliable 3pt shooter, leading the team in makes and takes. Unfortunately for Rutgers, his 35.6% 3pt shooting percentage is near the best for the team. His 12.0 ppg leads the team. Player to watch: Derek Simpson Simpson has become the primary distributor for the Knights and he leads the team in assists as well as steals. Simpson is a remarkably poor shooter despite being an above average FT shooter. Others to watch Mawot Mag has returned from his ACL tear last year and likely isn't 100% yet. He's still scoring 10+ per game in addition to 5+ rebounds. Hartford transfer guard Austin Williams has been figuring it out at this level and is more of a glue guy. UMass transfer guard Noah Fernandes has been coming off the bench in part because he's been in a shooting slump most of the season. 6'8" freshman Gavin Griffiths is a shooter with the second most 3pt shots for the team though hasn't been a maker as he's at 24.1% from 3. Posts Oskar Palmquist and Antwone Woolfolk are reliable post depth. The Scarlet Knights find themselves in a transition year between losing 3 starters and next season when they bring in 2 of the nation's top 3 recruits in Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey. While the Knights are one of the worst shooting teams in D-1 by most any metrics, their defense has been good enough to keep them undefeated at home. Thus, it's also a get right game for Rutgers who come if after a loss to Michigan St in East Lansing; expect both teams to play with a sense of urgency. Even though Nebraska has been torched from 3 in the conference, making this Rutgers team chuck 3s is a way to win this game. The Knights scrap for their points so they generate them via turnovers, offensive rebounds, and at the FT line. Pace can help the Huskers as they have the superior offense. Pace can hurt the Huskers if they lack execution as it fuels Rutgers with easy makes. Offensively Nebraska will look to attack Rutgers from the 3pt line and have success on the offensive glass. With all the talk about getting right, you have to wonder if heading back home might help Jamarques Lawrence out of his mini-slump. Over the last 3 games he hasn't played more than 20 minutes and has 3 total points. If he's still struggling, look for Hoiberg to call on either Eli Rice or perhaps even Boogie Coleman in relief. It's a tough environment to win in but look for Nebraska to bring a winning type of effort fueled by an embarrassing loss in Iowa and 5 days of rest/prep. 15. There are 362 D-I men's college hoops teams. 336 have played at least one Quad 1 game. Only 19 teams have 3+ Quad 1 wins. Four of those 19 teams are in the Big Ten: Purdue,6-2 Q1 Wisconsin, 4-3 Q1 Nebraska, 3-3 Q1 Northwestern, 3-3 Q1 Resume builders.

  17. Mich looks somewhat like us. Top half of B1G team. Watched part of one of their game couple of weeks ago, and was not overwhelmed, but they seem to be ready to break out and could have a good game(s) They're well coached, and organized. Have some quickness. Maybe a bit taller overall than us, so we'll need to fight for rebounds. Games on our court with our fans, so that's worth 5-10 points

  28. By my estimation, this loss really puts our back against the wall, so the noticeable angst on the board is to be expected. Here's how I see it. We need now to win 9 of the next 12. That or hope for a nice run in the Big 10 tourney. Short that we will probably be outside looking in. Considering the fact we play Iowa twice, that really means throwing out those 2 games out and going 9 of our next 10. Time to back our team all the more and hope they figure out both a sense of urgency and their shooting woes.

  29. Sorry but I really lost the trust in the coaching staff when they couldn't see Leighla Brown should of been playing a LOT more in her freshman and sophomore years. They basically ran her off. If she was on our team her junior and senior years we would of won a lot more games IMHO. I know she rubbed some people on this board wrong and maybe some teammates, but that kid was a very good all around basketball player.

  32. Great description. When we are facing a team like Iowa that doesn't have a dominant center then there is no need to double down in the paint. If we are going to run zone then we needed to switch to 1-3-1, 3-1 and a chaser (chaser is best defender) or similar to protect against the 3. Either Lawrence or Hoiberg needed to be on Perkins (15 assists!) like glue to force the ball from his hands. The goal is to pressure the ball. I love our matchup zone as our base defense, however when we are getting beat at the perimeter we need to change it up to protect the perimeter.

  33. It's not just a matter of being a step slow (although that often is part of the problem). The problem is that once you get in to league, the coaching is better and the scouting is better (same with Creighton), and coaches have figured out how to attack this defense. In our defense, the off-ball defender ALWAYS helps in to the paint. This makes us susceptible to the swing pass or the skip pass. But in addition, the better coached teams in league play are positioning an offensive player behind Nebraska's off-ball defender to SCREEN him from closing out on the 3 point shooter. This is done over and over and over again. So even if the Husker defender was playing fast and with great effort, it is impossible for him to run through that screen and get to the shooter. Overall, I feel the coaching staff has done a good job and they clearly are trying to make the best out of the less athletic defenders on the team. But man, giving up wide-open 3 point shots from the corner over and over and over again does become a bit maddening.

  37. Huge game for the Huskers. I mean enormous. For those who played the "short prep" card after Iowa, we have that advantage over Rutgers for this game. Must win game for Rutgers as well. Should be a war.

  39. Let’s start with the basics. Win one. If Nebraska finishes with 25 wins but won one game in the tournament, would the season be a success? But I agree norm. Let’s keep winning past that and knock out Creighton

  42. Make the NET make sense pleaseeeee! San Francisco got a 5 point boost for beating the mighty San Diego by 20 last night. They went from 42 to 37 in the NET. They are also 0-3 in Q1 and 1-1 in Q2. St Mary’s got a 12 spot boost in the NET!!! 12!!! That’s the same boost I think we got for beating Purdue. Who did they beat? Portland. By 43. Obviously the NET favors how you beat someone more than who you beat. I know we had some gripes about our weakish non-con BUT the last two non-con games we kind of hurt ourselves by not hammering them into submission.

We haven't been given a lot of love lately. Like when we play really good it's a surprise. Mich. St. and Illinois both were overrated last year and continue to be this year. Both made the NCAA "bunny bracket as last four in" and lost first game. I love it when we significantly beat them at their places as we did each of the last time we played them.
