  1. Seems like a reason we're closer is because we have a better coaching staff that has a clearer vision of the types of players that will work in the system we're trying to deploy.

Last night Natalie Potts's team Incarnate Word Academy won the class 6(largest class) Missouri State championship with their 100th consecutive win. Longest winning streak in the nation. Sixth straight championship. Max Preps had Incarnate Word Academy rated 6th in the nation a week ago.

  4. In road games against teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament, Nebraska's record was, from November 1999 through February 2022: 6-113; from March 2022 through March 2023: 4-7. So: Getting Closer.

  5. I have been saying for weeks we’re going to have significant roster turnover, and need to be very active in the portal at multiple positions. IMO without high level portal infusion this isn’t a roster that in ‘23-24 will be successful. Talent-wise we are currently “not close”, and are more than a couple of pieces here and there from being in the upper half of the league and getting in the dance. Player development alone won’t do it, we need an upgrade in high level talent. Now go get dudes!

  7. Big key is that Nebraska didn't have a turnover until mid-way through the 3rd. Ended with 7 TOs to UNI's 13.

  10. Should have been a foul on Jaz shot before half. Girl ran right into her as she was throwing it up. Pretty big contact. One of their coaches came over to our bench on the way to the locker room and started talking and had to escorted away. Are all people from Iowa this big of losers?

  11. So, it sounds like we have money, right? Can we afford to buy those other pieces we need?

  12. So, if you were a Northwestern fan sitting there last year at 15-16 (7-13) thinking "we need a complete roster overhaul in order to make the dance next season" you would have been wrong. I'm sitting here as a Husker fan this year at 16-16 (9-11) thinking we have a few guys who can clearly play at this level and, yeah, we need to find a few studs in the portal, probably, but I think it's a manageable undertaking.

  13. UNI will be a handful for the Huskers. They have some quality wins and beat Drake and played Iowa and Iowa State to tight games. We need to be at our best.?

  14. Well, sure. Nobody from the teams who made it ever ask how close we were to not getting in. My purpose isn't to say "gosh, flip those 2-3 games and we'd have been in." My purpose is to say, "how close is our roster to being the kind of team that won't need those breaks next year?" Part of that analysis, in my opinion, is trying to figure out how far from it we were this year. And it seems like we were close. Like instead of a complete roster overhaul, we're only looking at a couple of key pieces here and there. THAT is the question I'm trying to answer for myself. That's why the thread title is basically how close were we equals (or is an indicator of) how close are we.

  15. Chucky is only 19, probably only 1 year older than Lawrence, though they could be the same age. Shot better from 3 than Keisei this year and still has a ton of growth in front of him. He would be a home run get in the portal.

  18. Fans want to know. Those concerned about Sam, would like to know. Wouldn't you like to know? And, probably a 'not too subtle' nod to the lack of transparency of this staff. Example: How is Trinity Brady doing? How about Dillard?

  19. Thought so for two years ....Moriarity is not seeing the floor enough. She plays fast, can handle the ball and shoot. Sometimes I thought she is just to fast a player for our sort of a half court offense. Anyway...great game Kendall. The other Kendall played well too ! Awesome Issie !! double - double (only player on both teams) UNI just was too slow for us. We play a bit quicker than them. Our height was a factor too. And.....our defense was effective. We defended their inside scorers well. And later we defend their 3. Our home crowd finally got into it and made a big difference. We just play so well at home. Nice job NU fans...and team !! Suppose there's any chance we'll get another home game?

  21. Slow starts are a disaster for everyone in the tourneys. .... Quick starts haven't consistently been our greatest asset this year. Really, really hard to comeback against these good teams. The parody is even more evident this year. NCAA's and the WNIT. Good starts are in us, so.....need it, and of course reasonable 3 shooting and rebounding, no turnovers, lots of in the paint points, lots of fast break points, many assists, lots of blocked shots....can't think of anything else right off the top of my head.

  22. Northwestern was a 7-seed and made the round of 32 in the NCAA tourney this year. Last year, they were 15-16 (7-13) with a roster that looks remarkably similar to the one that danced this year. Notably, ALL of their top six players this year were on their roster last year. 23. And whatever improvements we make in the offseason, that needs to be at a much larger rate than that of our peers in the conference.

  24. I find it interesting that in his fourth year as a head coach at Nebraska, Scott Frost's team lost eight one-score games and lost another single-digit game: by 8 to Illinois by 7 to Oklahoma by 3 in OT to MSU by 3 to Michigan by 7 to Minnesota by 5 to Purdue by 9 to tOSU by 7 to Wisconsin by 7 to Iowa The mantra was "we're close," so the logical conclusion was that while the roster may have been close, poor coaching doomed the team to a horrible season. I'm choosing to interpret Hoiberg's season as the exact opposite — we were close to a horrible season, but good coaching turned those close games our way and led to a mediocre season. After losing to Purdue in OT, we won: by 2 in OT at Minnesota by 3 vs. tOSU by 10 in OT vs. Wisconsin by 4 in OT vs. Maryland by 4 at Iowa We lost a close game to Minnesota in the BTT, but we never led after the 9:00 mark of the first half. In other words, we could easily have gone 5-15 in the conference instead of 9-11. Assuming the coaching will still be solid, we will need to upgrade our roster significantly to compete for a winning record in the Big Ten and be in consideration for an NCAA berth. Of course, you already know that.

  25. Recapturing the magic of this year at SJS is going to be tough, and there's no support for taking the program further. They drew 2,300 for their final home game in their best season in decades. He should take the best offer now, and I think he will.

  26. My humble opinion...Eli Rice will have a role on next year's team. Unless portal arrivals are outstanding, that dude will be playing. Transfers are probably not done yet either. We shall see. Yet another critical but interesting offseason.

  34. With Nebraska being the NO.1 seed you would think that we would have home court advantage and with the money running out the wazoo you would think we could outbid everyone. Sent from my SM-A515U using Tapatalk

  35. Wouldn't be surprised if a WNIT rep. had something to say to UNI at the half. And them getting into the NU bench might have finally trip a trigger for the WNIT. That's an unwritten rule in any sport. The other teams bench is off limits. "Clean up your act or you'll never see a WNIT game again" Maybe not said quite like that but, whatever was said...it was probably close.

  44. If they could pony up some NIL and get him to stay, he could take them dancing next year. That place is a financial wasteland. They're lucky to have him. I'd imagine a school like Kennesaw State could garner more NIL money than SJSU could. Miles is better moving on if the P5 offers are out there.

  49. The knee pads were all the rage for 6'8" guys in 1964. I think Lauer went to NU for his freshman year but then transferred to Kearney State; Nebraska's 20-5 team in 1966 could have used a 6'8" guy. On your second point, I'm pretty sure that wasn't a one foot jumper. Whatever newspaper that was doctored the photograph to add the lane and the basket so that the readers would know that this was from a basketball game, or something. That was probably a shot from outside 20', I think Lauer liked to play on the perimeter. Just another bit of fake news from the lying media.
