Not specifically, although the last word i got was positive about Kesei coming back. That's not "take it to the bank" or "done deal" type of stuff. But I heard a relatively decent number on what it would take. We would have no trouble coming up with it if we can work out the legalities. I don't know that they're counting on getting the rules changed in time. Perhaps more of an interpretation of "international students can't receive money while here" kind of thing, and perhaps the endorsement side. I think there is confidence they can make it work even without a rule change, but I don't know the details.6 points

Not at all how it works. Matt Davison (not "Davidson") is an employee of 1890. It is not "Davison/1890". The Peeds own it and fund a bunch of it. People with Matt paranoia or disdain overstate his role. There are numerous people involved, at multiple levels (both paid employees such as Joe Selig, and volunteers who help with the asks). While they want to broaden the donor base, like anything else, a few big hitters are giving lots of money. Some are more inclined to support basketball than others. 1890 and those involved know who those folks are (you can see some of them in the Nicolson seats at PBA). When those asks are being made, specific players are discussed, and what it might take to get them. These conversations are not directly involving Fred or Trev, and can't. Yes, there are funds being raised for just basketball. No, Davison can't just unilaterally decide to choose between a football and basketball recruit. Say, for example, a couple of bigs currently on the east coast have expressed interest in transferring. And they are established, really good bigs (stay tuned). People (way beyond Matt) know what it might cost, and the feasibility of raising it. Let's say a certain bigshot gave $50k for the basketball collective last year. Someone is talking to that bigshot now saying "we need $100k now. We can get player X but need the money."5 points -

Dimes' response above is more creative than mine , and more succinct, but here goes.... Traditionally, at year end, (1) you have guys leave that you basically run off, or at least are very frank with them as to expected playing time assuming they'll get it and free up a scholarship; (2) guys that you are direct with about roles and needed improvement but aren't encouraging them to leave; (3) some who go pro; and (4) some you actively re-recruit and do everything possible to keep them. I believe CJ is more in the second category than the first or fourth. The modern day player has a lot of voices in their ear, whether it's a street agents, buddies, family members about why playing time is what it is, why they're not getting X many shots and sets run for them, etc. (hint: most of them aren't hearing that they're the reason for any problems, and struggle to self-reflect on it). I wouldn't be shocked if there are voices in a couple of our players' ears that they are listening to, and that would help cause them to consider transfer options. The 4th category now involves aggressive conversations on the NIL side of things. I believe 1890 is allocating greater resources for obtaining portal transfers than we are for retaining our more average returnees. If that causes them to move on, so be it.4 points -

“Command” NIL means he’s good enough to keep his scholarship and stay if he wants, but he’s not gonna be on the high end of allocated NiL money. If he can get more some where else, hey, go for it. “Accommodations” more about playing time, offensive sets, position, etc. Role player vs. The Man. This is now pro basketball. Let's see who we have at this moment: Guards - Tominaga Lawrence Hoiberg (walk-on) Grace (walk-on) Jacobson (walk-on) McPherson Lloyd Wings - CJ Rice PF - Briedenbach Gary Burt (walk-on) Post - Blaise Am I missing anyone? Sounds like we will have additional attrition. Without being overly dramatic...Help! Hey, we have some building blocks, but we need a successful off-season.2 points -

Cut and paste from my other post.... Done some brief research... Missouri State is no slouch. They're well coached (she was an assistant at Notre Dame and Duke for about 10-15 years before becoming head coach at another school before Missouri St) I think she (coach Cunningham) was at Notre Dame as an assistant when Jess Shepard was there..(natl championship). (trivia....she played at and is Notre Dame's all time leading scorer) They have some quick slashing guards, good rebounding. (watched a clip of short video) They have won lots of games this year, and also in their past history. Common opponent : They lost to Drake by a few points. We lost to Drake by about 18. We must be ready for this one. Edit: Watched the player interview with Sam and Alexis last night....not getting a great vib about them being in WNIT. Hope I'm imagining it.2 points

The players and schools involved in postseason are not very active in the portal now. Arizona State and Arkansas were the only NCAA team in the list for the Central Arkansas dude. Things should start to heat up this weekend as teams are eliminated. For the school up the road, the exodus begins Friday.2 points -
As someone who has posted about both KT and CJ it's hard to figure out how to word these properly to the point where people thought I was being too vague with KT though I'm just trying to convey my lack of confidence in information that isn't first hand on unmade decisions. For instance, it was well known that Trayce Jackson-Davis was going pro at the end of last season. Mike Woodson was at the combine when TJD, after having covid for a few days and unable to travel, called him and decided this was a sign he should stay at Indiana. The point is, you don't know for sure that someone is gone until they're gone.2 points

From the outside looking in, I would provide one bit of advice to CJ. This is the same advice I would give to him whether he stays or goes; and only applies when he is on the court. Stop thinking! Let your natural talent take the lead, and trust yourself. He ends up looking mechanical, slow and indecisive.2 points -

Arbitrary analytics on Denim Dawson playing time this season: Record when Dawson played 10+ minutes: 6-11 Record when Dawson played under 10 minutes: 10-5 Digging into it I was surprised how much our defensive numbers dipped when he was on the court. How did people think he operated in our defensive scheme? Not sure how he'll develop going forward but this season he was a liability which is why he didn't play at the end of the year.1 point

We'll always have those sweet finishes in that one game. But ultimately if you can't shoot you're a liability on the floor with everything we're trying to do. Mostly everyone on the court has to be guarded or what we do doesn't work with the back-cuts, curls, flares.1 point -

This was the portal entry I was most expecting. He got enough minutes during the season to potentially drum up interest from other suitors, but fell out of the rotation and thus likely has very little expectation of being a key player for us next year. Here’s the formula to dancing. Schedule 3 tough non-con games. Win one, in the other 2 slow the game to a snails pace so your 4 point defeat is a NET dream scenario. Go .500 in B1G play. Most importantly - beat the absolute pants off the scrubs on your schedule. I’m talking all gas, no brakes, full speed, beat downs. Make their coach complain to ESPN after the game that you were full court pressing up 35.1 point -

I believe the speculation was premised on the idea that we might not have NIL money to go around. If he’s not getting paid, the logic goes he will probably leave. Makes sense we would keep our powder dry and use funds for players we want to get through the portal rather than spending on an underperforming player we already have.1 point -
What are the AD expectations for Fred next year?
cornfed24-7 reacted to Nebrasketball1979 for a topic
I'll weigh in on this one, having little (i.e. no) experience beating a dead horse. I believe the horse is likely indifferent. I mean, it's dead so it probably doesn't feel good or bad or more dead than it already was. The horse is probably ambivalent at the point of death regarding future beatings. I think the real question is does the "beater" feel better after beating the dead horse. Again, I lack experience with horses but I suspect the answer is yes. Speaking from experience, I feel remarkably better when I beat the ever loving crap out of spider with the bottom of my shoe. I'm pretty sure it's dead after the first whack but the ensuing onslaught of a dozen or more "beatings" brings about a great sense of relief. I suspect it's the same feeling for someone that beats a horse, although they may be a bit more tired.1 point -

No P5 teams set the expectation at NIT. NCAA Tournament is the goal of every P5 program (at some it’s the minimum goal). I would say at Nebraska the expectation should be NCAAs every third season. Part of the reason I think Fred needs to be NCAA bound or damn close (NIT 1 seed, first 4 out) next year.1 point -

I think they have to get rid of secondary defender charges, increase (or add, for hs) charge circle size, and start being super mindful of WHO created the contact and go from there. Offensive players create 80% of the contact on drives and in the air and get rewarded for it.1 point -
Yup, and our coach one time entered the numbers for the home jerseys in the official scorebook, but we were on the road. Correcting the number in the book was a 2-FT technical foul each time a new player entered the game. We started down 7-0 or 8-0 before the opening tip. Good times.1 point
