  1. "This program's gonna go." - Tom Izzo I mean, Trev did cut the UNO wrestling program.

  2. I wanted to post this as this has been an impressive run for a coach and for their team. I am not sure if anyone remembers Adam Bohac, who was on the team from 2000-2004, but he has had an extremely impressive career at, a now, Division II school. I am a little biased as I am related to him, but his career and win record speaks for itself. SNU Athletics️ on Instagram: “Still one more to go.. ️ Won GAC by six games ️ 25 wins ️ 15 straight wins ️ 13-0 at home ️ Became 2nd SNU coach to win 300 games…” First time I have started a post, so hopefully the link works

  4. At least they have a couple days extra rest. I think Kent and Jake will hear some F-bombs from Iowa fans leaving Carver Hawkeye Arena, which I lovingly refer to as the inverse porcupine: they have 15,000 pricks on the inside.

  5. Sometimes you have to give the other team credit. They played one of the best halves of basketball I have ever seen. We weren’t at our best but they had a lot to do with it. Feel bad for the team.

  7. There is no reason this team should be anywhere near 16-14 or the bubble. You don't just beat Maryland @Maryland by 20 and be near .500 and on the bubble.

  8. Half time... Plenty of game left. We're within striking distance. You do understand Mich St leads the B1G in streals/creating turnovers. After our early slowstart with turnovers, now Mich St has more turnovers than us. Their ball handling is full of walks, etc. They try to play super fast but it has them making turnovers. AS long as the refs call the walks, etc we'll be ok, and we're getting fouled a lot, ...the chaos is letting them get away with fouls. Come on refs. Anyway we clawed our way back. Keep it up girls .

  10. The whole 'physical" game thing has gotten worse and worse the last couple of years, and stepped up even more this year. The "face" of the game is beginning to spiral down. See it all over the country, not just B1G. It's one thing to be physical rebounding, but now it's beginning to see almost be deliberate fouls, smack down stuff...fights, knocking people down, elbows to face, etc etc Some teams more so than others. Yes, it's up to the refs (and conferences...& and even the NCAA I guess) to put some controls in place if they even want to control it. Just hate women's BBall to turn into thug ball. Have to give Coach Amy credit, she doesn't subscribe to that crapola ....back to the game

  11. One thing to watch is how the game is called. MSU will physically beat on us, daring the officials to make the call. How we and the officials react is key.

  12. This may be a tough one. Pretty equal teams, that have played well at times against good teams. Don't see a blowout for either team. If we get hot at the three, through out the game, we'll probably do well. Just depends on which is the hot shooting team overall. But we've been attacking the basket better recently (wanted to see that for a long time) Mich St starting 5 usually does the scoring, pretty much like us. So bench production may be big. We need the win to get a shot at the NCAA's. Last thing I saw we were one of the last few teams out. Would seem we're probably in pretty good shape for NIT

  13. One thing about I like about Oleg is whenever he gets on the court, I never see him make blatant bone-headed plays. At a minimum he seems like he will be a decent backup center. Not sure what his ceiling is but I like him as a role player.

    Seven Year Itch

Seven Years In; and the Natives are getting restless. I hate being 'That Guy,' but the topic seems to deserve its own discussion rather than the random posts being made at the end of each loss, out of frustration if nothing more. I apologize for naming names, but the intent is not to point fingers at any particular individual(s) for deficiencies, but rather to try to highlight more symptomatic causes. At best we are a middle of the pack, to lower tier of the conference team. On the positive side, over the past seven years I've never seen the Lady Huskers Quit fighting in a game (i.e. their/our signature is and has been: GRIT, NO QUIT HUSKERS). We can beat top half teams (This year is the first season we've Ever defeated Maryland), but not consistently enough to remain in the top tier. We could have better talent (you can always have better talent), but I believe a larger cause of our shortfalls may be coaching. For just two examples, I'd like to see Alexis Markowski develop more moves around the basket when she is double and triple teamed that might improve her chances of making the play, or kicking it out when there is no chance of a play rather than risking a turn-over. As good as she is (whatever would we do without her), Issie, as well as others seem to miss some of the more easy lay-ups under the basket Each game. Whether it's excitement, or just heat of the moment, is this is something that coaching could address? I'm sure those more observant or knowledgeable than I have several other/better examples they could talk about, such as roster management. I am not saying that Coach Amy Williams should be let go, but is anyone else disappointed that in the six months she had to replace Coach Chuck Love her selection was a coach from her sister's coaching tree? I am not trying to denigrate Jesscia Keller, indeed I have seen several positive comments about her; But the question is: Is she the Best Coach that was available for the job who could enhance our skills, given the six-month search, and likely go-ahead to open the checkbook by the AD for the right hire? What I have read is that she is very compatible with Amy's coaching style, but it in order to progress further might we need someone with a somewhat different coaching style and approach to game strategy rather than an Amy clone. Trev faces a dilemma this off season. Are we content to remain a 'middle-of-the-pack' team, as we have been the past seven years, or try to instigate some changes to improve the record. The answer may may well affect our ability to recruit top-level talent (thinking Britt Prince). Indeed, To attract top talent, one needs to have the top coaching and development they deserve, and should expect. We have seen how Coach Hoiberg has revamped his coaching staff; and seen the results on the basketball court this season. Fire Away (taking cover)!

  17. I think we’ll be 2nd 4 out. I’m not sure we are going to the nit. 3 bench points again. Game seemed frantic. I’m not seeing much game control from the staff. Subbing patterns are never consistent nor do they seem to make sense. Very frustrating to watch. Interested to see what happens in the off season/transfer season. offense doesn’t make much sense to me either. We have great bigs and we rely on the 3. Work it in. Some outside. Some inside. But that’s not what we are doing.

  20. If Markowski transferred, that would be the most damning indictment of AW as a coach. Because you know her father Andy is NU true blue, through and through. So if he signed off on Alexis transferring, it would indicate to me that Andy has lost all faith in Amy and her program.

  25. Took my 3 boys and my brother-in-law to our first game at PBA. Drove over 2,200 miles to get there just for the game! Okay, maybe it’s because we are moving from BC to Ontario and stopped for a few days at my in-laws near Council Bluffs. But when I saw the game was on the schedule with senior night, I knew we needed to go! The 1st half did not disappoint, especially when the crowd erupted after KT’s pump fake and amazing 3! And my 6 year-old son and I yelled for a lot of the defensive possessions even though from 304 we probably didn’t make a ton of noise. Such fun! I told them Sparty would start making shots, but the 2nd half was crazy. It was a letdown for sure, but my boys and I will always cherish this game! We have a great arena and a tough team. Let’s keep building on this! Thanks to all of you on this board that make it so great, and all of you who go to the games to make PBA great! GBR! By the way, the Sparty fan next to me leaned over with 2 minutes to go and said, “These refs are sh*t.” I said, “Welcome to Nebraska basketball.” I think I was even whistled for a moving screen on my way through the crowds out of the arena.

  27. Derrick, you put on a special show for us fans this year. I predict it'll be awhile before we see the likes of someone like you again. A big man who can bring the ball up the floor, initiate the offense, hit cutters with regularity, occasionally lead the team in assists, and yet do all the usual big man stuff like rebound, defend the paint, and score inside. It's been a real treat watching you develop. And this was a special year for you. Congratulations on your senior night, though I know you've already graduated (I watched you walk across the stage.) You'll be missed.

  28. I was thinking, if Amy is retained, Shimmy could be an assistant upgrade. I think recruiting, and post player development, are strenghs of hers. Not sure what happened during the Yori years, but thought Gray-Miller did her job. I am not close to the program, so just my impression.

  29. We made more 3's, we made more free throws, we had more rebounds, we had less turnovers and we still lost. I would say its time we started defending people, especially mid-range and in the lane.

  31. Interesting I got one at 11:19 this morning. Have until the 7th to reserve your tickets. They actually gave a list of potential dates Nebraska might be hosting as well. The email I got said we have the potential to host rounds 1-6. With rounds 4,5,6 being played at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

  32. Hadn’t thought about this, just due to lineage, but I think they could lose several if things don’t change. Quickly and significantly. I think AW will “say the right things” in pressers and then things don’t change. This team could have/should have performed soooo much better. The talent is there.

  33. You can complain about officiating but you have to be tough with the ball. We had several unnecessary turnovers. Our post players need to be better passing back out to the perimeter. I can understand their frustration when the guards can’t get them the ball they may be reluctant to give it up. Our over reliance on the three killed us again. We just weren’t good enough and to me, the future doesn’t look promising.

  34. This is just from my observation from sitting beside the bench all season and watching ppls language. I said it back when Leah left you can just tell. She literally has the ability to be a jess sheppard but it's just not going to happen staying here IMO

  43. I saw more of ending up against the shot clock than hero ball in the second half. Hoiberg got a couple very clean threes when they started the run and couldn’t make them. Sam was caught up against the shot clock way too much. Wilcher has to play better for us to be effective. Multiple illegal screens also did not help. When we don’t ever get a stop we also have to always face them with defense set up. And the other way around.

  44. I also saw tired legs last night. Senior night got them through the 1st half with one of the most active and inspired defensive performances I've seen. But then in the second half the juice was gone. Feet weren't as choppy, rotations were late, didn't get loose balls and a lot of rebounds. Think they finally hit an emotional wall from the past month. Hopefully they can regroup and kick Iowa's ass.

  45. Izzo made half time defensive adjustments that we were not able to overcome. Izzo showed why he is one of the best in the country. We didn't lose the game so much as MSU won that game. In person MSU looked impressive. Long and athletic at almost every position. Move on from this game to Iowa. We need 1 more win to ensure we finish the season at .500 and get a postseason tournament bid.

  47. The last time San Jose State had 17+ wins was 2010-2011 (17 wins). Prior to that was 1979-1980 (17 wins), 1975-1976 (17 wins), 1949-1950 (21 wins), 1937-1938 (19 wins). The last time they had 8+ conference wins was 1995-1996. 1995-1996: Lost in NCAA 1st Round 1979-1980: Lost in NCAA 1st Round 1950-1951: Lost in NCAA 1st Round This team hasn't had a winning record since 2010-2011, prior to that was 1993-1994. The last time they had a winning conference record was 1993-1994. The lack of history, lack of success, and lack of resources makes this turnaround (if you can even call it that) pretty impressive. Not that they'll make the tournament, at-large, but if they beat us to a first NCAA tournament win we're truly cursed.

    In state kids?

Sam G. showed a lot of "bounce" in high school; I was surprised observing that level of athleticism at East games (surprised he didn't have better offers). His bad hip has reduced that some, but still long and athletic, and has clearly showed he belongs at the high major level.

  49. Tyronn Lue is my favorite basketball player of all time. He's had an incredible career. Won an NIT championship and went to an NCAA tourney in college. Won two NBA championships as a player with the Lakers. Won a championship with the Cavs as head coach. Played with Kobe, Shaq, Michael Jordan, T-Mac, Grant Hill, Yao, Dirk, Jason Kidd. Played for Phil Jackson, Doc Rivers, Jeff Van Gundy. Coached Lebron, Kyrie, Love, Kawhi, Paul George. Now he'll be a Team USA coach. Amazing experiences he has had. Just a kid from Mexico, Missouri. So happy for him.
