Many reasons this is my favorite message board I have ever seen, let alone be a part of. 1. Information. Any breaking Husker Hoops news is going to be here instantly so I use this to gather it. 2. Generally awesome people. You can just tell that most guys are the types it would be a pleasure to have a beer with. I have had the pleasure to meet a few at a gathering and it was as expected. 3. Very clever, witty and funny guys. Several different types of humor, and most of them work and genuinely amuse me. 4. There are a lot of guys like me here that for some reason are extremely passionate about Husker Hoops. Guys that were mentally and physically exhausted after that Wisconsin game. Guys that could hardly drink a beer after the game they were so spent. 5. Several guys that are very sharp basketball minds. And just as important, there generally are not guys that try to act like they are great basketball minds when they aren't for the most part. That is what often happens at most forums and it simply ruins it. Furthermore, different guys bring different interesting aspects of knowledge.6 points

I have been on message boards for 15 years and still pay for rivals but always come here for my husker hoops fix as nothing else comes close. As someone who does not post very often I still find myself checking this board 5 times a day for info. For that I say thanks to all the people that post any info you can get. Hell I even like the squabbles and find myself laughing all the time. I love the recruiting page as rivals basketball coverage is poor.4 points -

You too cip? Well I kind of think of this site as a bar where you can sit and talk freely with friends about things and not have to feel like your stupid or that your $.02 will be ripped. Or when somebody can't spell or forgets names or gives minuses when they mean pluses. That nobody is going to make fun of you. Well at least not on the site. And the fact that I truely love my Husker Hoops. Also while sitting tonight at the Vault it dawned on me that this is the start of my 50 th year of going to games. Mom started taking me when Imwas 4 and I will turn 54 this year so... GO BIG RED.4 points -
I was fairly impressed with the freshman Smith. He didn't do a lot but just the way he presented himself on the court, he knew what was going on and didn't look like the typical freshman. You can tell he's ultra athletic. Benny's stroke on the 3 that he splashed looked fantastic. You can tell he's really worked on his shot. If he can even be a threat to shoot, that is going to help the offense immensely when he's on the floor. He also had some lightning moves to the basket against the token defense.3 points

It was real hard to come aaway with any nuggets for you guys, because there was really no defense involved Few things that I came away with that I feel I should mention 1. Tai Websters last three point basket was from NBA range and he drilled it. After shooting it he pointed to Miles and smiled. I basically got the feeling that he was saying "Look at the confidence I have now! 2. Hammond has a ways to go. At one point it looked like he was going to do a reverse Jam and threw it over the basket. I hope some of the things I saw from him was because of the style of play that was going on at the scrimmage didn't suite him 3. Tarin Smith looks like spud webb when he jumps... that it all 4. Walter Pitchford looks really really good! He was drilling just about everything and going 16-25 in the 3 point competition is nuts!!! He hit 10 in row it was the highlight of the night for me 5. The athleticism on this team is freakish. I think everyone on the team can dunk... except Menke of course 6. All of Petteways points were dunks... I think he had 5 dunks and a 3 tonight. Very tough to gauge from the defense tonight 7. Really disapointed they split up the autographs tonight. I had a great idea to have the team sign my season tickets, but was only able to get 1/2 of them signed. Ruined my idea. Hopefully I can get the rest to sign them at some point.3 points -

I rarely post but check the board daily. I came to HHC a few years ago because of the focus on Husker Hoops and the great information. I've stayed because of the information but even more so because of the people. You all seem like such great people! Norm's candor, Kamdy's recruiting insight, Dimes and others leading the way make this the best Husker Hoops site. And I look forward to meeting you all some day when I can visit the PBA and grab a beer or two with you guys in the Haymarket! And then taking the party down the road to Conlee's!2 points -

We looked good, as a matter of fact real good for a 15 minute scrimmage. Not really enough time though to get a good read on how each player because of the split squad can contribute especially our 7 new ones. Started out a little sloppy but settled down a minute or two into the scrimmage. We were playing a four out one in offense. And in a man defense. One thing I did pick up though, our four returning starters looked really good, give our newbies a little time to develop and we’re looking at another team dancing in March. From what little time we had to watch, Brandi Jeffery is our 5th starter. Brandi played pretty good on both ends of the court. This is Emily’s team and you can tell she’s got it in another gear. She looked real good rebounding shooting and defending to go along with some good hustle plays. Emily looked good but so did Rachel and Tee. Rachel was her normal self and couldn’t miss a shot. Tee Laudermill has taken the phrase “speed kills” and uses it to her advantage. Not sure there’s a faster player in the conference. Hallie Sample in what could be the best move of the year is playing the post. Natalie Romeo just looks like someone you want on your team. Good handles could become a deadly shooter from the outside and looks like she’s picking up the defense fairly good. She will see minutes. Anya Kalenta could be a good serviceable back up for Emily. Could see minutes but needs a little time to get acclimated to this level of play. Shot a couple of times but I can’t remember if she scored or not. Allie Havers looks like she got stronger had a nice block and grabbed a couple of rebounds. Kaylee Page got to play maybe 8 minutes, played on the wing, hit a 3 pointer, she looks like she’s eager to learn. Little shaky at the start, got caught behind a couple of screens but as the scrimmage progressed got more comfortable, should see the court in every game. Jasmine Cincore didn’t play that much looked strong on defense but didn’t shoot the ball tonight. Darrien Washington could become a fairly decent low post player, might take a little time. She did at times show flashes of what she might be able to develop into. Emily Wood high energy player will become a fan favorite, hit a long jumper. One can tell Esther Ramaceri is a better player from last year. These young players need to see some real action and I think well see them start to progress and maybe by the time conference play rolls around we might have 2 or 3 new players looking to contribute productive minutes. Chandler Smith sat on the bench with her foot in a boot. Looked like she’s nursing a sprain.2 points -
I think college basketball, as opposed to the pro game, is the most entertaining sport there is to follow and the Huskers are my lifelong team through good or ill -- a LOT of ill -- and aside for the actual games, this is the best place and personalities to connect with. Also, sometimes I just need a place to unwind when time or Nebraska weather won't let me get in the wind.2 points

I was new to the message board world when I found HHC. It was brand new at the time, I believe. I would lurk at Huskerpedia (at the time) and the Rivals sites and a couple others and the inanity of the football conversations drove me crazy. I wanted nothing to do with it and the conversations for he other sports were...sparse... and being the new guy, I never felt like I was taken seriously, which happens on every established board, including this one from time to time, unfortunately. But with HHC, being brand new, we were all the new guys. And I could talk about something I really was interested in, not just the oppressive football conversations that just went in circles anyway. I only post on one other board and it's a board for my baseball team. I can't remember the last time I went to the boards at Husker Max or Rivals.2 points -

No, no, you got that all wrong. Spaghetti works is more like the Div II Player of the Year. It's good but it's not THAT good. Petteway is Valentino's Buffet. Great tasting food and so much. Sometimes they're out of stuff and you have to wait for the next tray of lasagna, and it can get messy at times. White is like Spezia in Omaha. Really fine Italian dining. Primo. (Sorry, but Vincenzo's is more like the Sunbelt Conference Player of the Year: It's good. No, really, it's pretty good. It's not bad.)2 points -

I don't post very often any more, but I still keep up with most of the conversations here. I remember making the switch from Rivals to HHC back when HHC first existed. I think my reasons are similar to those mentioned: there is an active conversation here about husker basketball, and it's not secondary comments from those who are primarily interested in football. What's even better is that the conversation happens largely among those who were interested in basketball long before we made it back to the NCAA tourney. I don't mean this like a hipster thing ("I liked Nebrasketball before it was cool"), but rather, I know the people here will keep posting and discussing the state of the program in its highs as well as its lows. And this is what I really want--I know that I will continue to be excited every November, hopeful at the start of every season, whether we continue the upward Miles trend or not. And it's nice to have others who share these feelings and to either commiserate in our losses or celebrate our wins. So, thanks to you all for providing this possibility!2 points -

Looks like Dan pretty much nailed it for my comment. I'll add that I used to go to other boards for NU sports, but this is the only place that I frequent (lurking, posting, etc) & have for nearly a decade (since the days it was formed...). Since Husker Hoops is my passion, why go any where else w/ only so much time to spend on this (or any other) sporting endeavor?2 points -

Scrimmage was like an NBA All Star game except even less defense. All I really took from tonight was Tai looks extremely more confident and thus better, and Andrew White is our best all-around basketball player. He is an incredible shooter and has all the athleticism in the world, and he is very smooth, not out of control. We've got some serious weapons on this roster.2 points -

Great mines think alike Norm, I think your takes are basically running parallel with mine. I agree we need to see how they perform in these next two exhibition games to get some sort of gauge on how the newbies will progress. Our four starters from last season are heads and tails ahead of the rest but I don't think it'll take too much time for some of these youngsters to get in the groove of things. I think the thing I was most hoping for and we may see it in time, was with Allie Havers. Oh, she's progressed really well over the summer don't get me wrong. I was just hoping she had developed a sky-hook over the summer. Imagine trying to defend that, not sure anyone could stop her if she could master that feat.1 point -

Kent Pavelka reacted to bball23 for a topic
Obviously you couldn't get much from last night.....but man are we so much more athletic than years past! I remember going to some practices in the past where a guy like Holley, Marks, Balham stood out like a sore thump on athleticism, but not great talents. Now we have guys that are athletic as heck AND talented basketball players. Its very refreshing! I also thought Benny looked bigger last night and was strong with the ball getting to the rim. Granted, the defense was nothing to get excited about, but he looked quick getting into the lane. This should be a fun ride this year and I can't wait! The fact that we actually will be disappointed with losses this year shows how far we have come. Just a few years ago it almost felt satisfying to "stay close" and have a shot at the end. Now I fully expect us to compete in almost every game. Granted you will have nights where it just isn't clicking, but I think with our athleticism and length we can always stay in games on defense alone.1 point -

no other Nebraska men's or women's basketball players had ever gone to 4 straight NCAA tournaments .....In two different conferences Tim added the "two different conferences" part. Connie continued to repeat that her seniors had a chance to do something -- go to 4 NCAA tourneys -- that no other Husker players, men's or women's, had ever done before. And that's just not correct. maybe she should have said they have a chance to do something no other husker players, men's or women, had ever done before and that's go to 4 straight NCAA Tourneys and Win.1 point -

When I started typing mine, there were no other breakdowns of the scrimmage posted yet. Sorry for the duplication but if some moderator can tack mine onto this thread, I'd be much obliged. Nice rundown, Row 6. You might be right on the 5th starter. We'll have to take a look at the exhibition game to get a better glimpse of the other candidates, though. I just thought the format last night was too brief. Running 15 minute clock was like playing until the 2nd media timeout of the first half of a game. Just not enough opportunity to really evaluate what you're looking at except for the few players who really stood out.1 point -
Scrimmage
Bugeaters1 reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
The format didn't allow much opportunity to evaluate the players in-depth. I will say the women treated it more like a game and at least tried to play some D. Which was nice. Some highlights: T: If you were worried whether T was going to revert back to her old, inconsistent ways, the early returns are you have nothing whatever to worry about. Extremely fast in the open floor, able to push the tempo, shot the ball well, had a great hesitation dribble move along the baseline, blew by the defender and scored. I would say she needs to learn to finish a little stronger at the rim. She could get to the rim at will but wasn't always finishing like I think she could. Rachel: Just wow. Ability to take a game over. Just wow. She has such great feel and her passing is otherworldly. Her lobs over the top of the D were placed perfect dang near all the time. And she knew when to make the pass or when to take it herself. She just looked really, really special. Cady: Started slow shooting, but her rebounding position is nearly flawless and she was snagging nearly everything. A little hesitant posting up on the low blocks in the half court. Started to find her range at the end of the scrimmage. Then she came back and won the 3-pt contest final against Pitchford by nailing 12 of 25. Romeo: Has the composure of a veteran. I thought she looked really solid. Didn't back down on D against Theriot. Good handles, and showed some nice ability to penetrate. Page: Great length with athleticism. Didn't start. Seemed to settle in pretty quick to the flow when she got in. Nailed her only 3-pt attempt. Wasn't trying to do too much. Thought she looked like a good player. Washington: A little flat footed. "NBA body" if you will. But slightly slow, maybe. And the shot wasn't falling for her tonight. Cincore: Just didn't see much from her. Didn't start. Didn't see a lot of time on the floor. Looked OK when she was out there. Kalenta: Looked just a bit lost out there. Still trying to figure out her role. A little off on her spacing, for example. Almost getting in the way setting screens. Has an odd delivery with her shot. Surprised she was such an offensive weapon in juco. Can't say as I saw it. Chandler Smith: Walking boot. Didn't suit up. Overall: Connie has some fantastic talent among the returning starters. What she doesn't have is a Jordan Hooper or really anyone who looks like they could fill that role. She has a couple of players who look like they have some promise but I'm not sure who that 5th starter will be.1 point -

Projecting Allocation of Minutes for 2014-15 Season
hhcmatt reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
I get your rationale but your percentages might be off just a bit. Sixty-five percent of the minutes in a game is 26 minutes. Last year, Pitchford only averaged 23.2 minutes per game, so he's in there less than 65% of the minutes already. And, of the 23 minutes he played, he wasn't always in there with both Shields and Petteway (although I'd guess he was in there with one or the other of them -- although not necessarily both -- the vast majority of the time.)1 point -

I don't remember just exactly what brought me here in the first place, honestly, it's been so long ago now. I think I signed up like 10 years or so ago. *shrug* But, there are many reasons why I choose to keep coming back here (full disclosure, this is one of only a few message boards I'm even actually registered for, and literally the only one I actually post on), in fact there are reasons too numerous to really mention, besides I'm sure my feelings will be encapsulated by others' comments in this thread. But if I were to choose one reason why this is the only place for me to go to discuss Husker hoops it would be the following. There has never been, nor will there ever be a poster that tries to make the "Wait...Nebraska has a basketball team?" joke here. That's why I keep coming back. Well, that and reading about a0t0w0 and his torrid love affair with the couch.1 point
