I would love to do a caller-driven show with an ex-player co-hosting on 93.7 The Ticket. Pike or Hoppen would be great. Unless Peltz is sticking around after this year, then I'm all in on Peltz. He'd have the best hair in radio. If there is a demand for it, I can try to make it happen for next year.4 points -

It was a disappointing game. We are watching growing pains associated with a team new to dealing with success. I'll take that versus not having success to worry about. I refuse to be upset with anything this team does the rest do the year because they've overachieved so much already. I'm enjoying the ride, whether that's the first round play in game, a second round game or the NIT. It's all awesome compared to the last couple years!4 points -

So you would grade those officials as being competent enough to do ncaa tourney games? And thanks for the name calling, keep it classy! Maybe, and I'm just trying to keep the peace here, but maybe he meant when teams lose, it's often due to the crappy officiating, so they are losers in the sense that they lost because the officials couldn't effectively enforce the rules of the game. Honestly, referees are fallible, and we KNOW that there is such a thing as reputation calls, and home cooking. It is not possible to not be caught up in the moment and it's not possible to be 100% consistent. All I would like is for the conferences to apply some of the advanced metrics to officiating performance and quietly move the lowest performers to refereeing Kidney's games at the youth community center. At least B1G officials aren't offered vacations for giving a coach a technical.3 points -

First of all, let me say I think we're in. Just a question of seeding. Assuming I'm right, there is, I think, a silver lining in yesterday's loss. Expect a focused and angry team on Thursday or Friday when they play their first tournament game. Every time this year that they've gone out and laid an egg in one game, they've come out the next and played extremely well. I would expect that pattern to continue. The monkey is loosening his grip.2 points -

When they display the "These BCS schools have not won a NCAA tourney game" stat they cannot put Nebraska on there if they win on Tuesday or any other day in the NCAA tourney. It counts....it's not a debatable thing. You guys are arguing over how much you value a win for a Tuesday game in Dayton should we end up there.2 points -
Like has been previously stated Tai needs to stick around during the summer. I honestly believe this staffs greatest strength is player development. You see it in every player that has been in the program the past two years. I'm not saying he will ever be all Big 10, but I really do believe he is going to be a very solid guard in the conference for years to come.2 points

I was pretty pissed about the breakdown in composure in that OSU ballgame. But, the sun did come up today, and the Nebrasketball coaching staff & players are out there gettin' better every day, and I am fully confident that the Huskers will work through any struggles and find a way to minimize their own shortcomings in their next game, because that's what winners do. The coaches know they have battle-tested warriors like Petteway, Shields, Gallegos, Pitchford, Parker, Rivers et al who make winning plays, and they will overcome any adversity and learn & grow into a better team in the process. It's not always fun to watch, but there's no question that this team is a whole lot better than it was a mere 2 months ago! The truly exciting part is this team still has a lot of room to develop into a better team yet this week for achieving bigger & better things in the NCAAs.2 points -
No offense to Norm, but I think his question is a losing attitude. I've watched us for most of my life, and I finally feel like we're good enough, and have a good enough coach. I think looking for silver linings is something that we have made ourselves do over the past decade plus. We shouldn't be accepting, which you are by talking about silver linings, I played my share of big games in high school, my coaches never talked about silver linings. You are either a winner or a loser in basketball. I think we're winners, but I think this kind of attitude from fans makes it easier to accept losing. So what you're saying is, "If you ain't first, you're last." Thanks Ricky.2 points

Good players in foul trouble (Petteway, Shields, Parker) screwed up the flow of the game and opened the door for Ohio State. That doesn't excuse losing an 18 point lead, but it does explain it. Coaches usually don't have enough practice time to waste it on getting ready for that kind of foul trouble. Unfortunate, but this is a very good team, and i have zero doubt they bounce back.2 points -
Norm, you and I are on the same page. I was telling people at the restaurant last night I'd rather lose to Ohio State and win the first game in the NCAA Tourney. And as far as the play in game, I don't see any way we're in it. But, which is better for us, being an 11 seed going against a 3 to make the Sweet Sixteen, or a 10 seed taking on a number 2?2 points

Really??? I hate Craft but have to give the kid his due as he is a very good defender. He finds a way to defend and not get calls against him for some reason. You can't blame him for that. I hate Craft and Grant Gibbs the most of anyone else in the country but Benny is not about the same as Craft. Craft is absolutely an elite defensive guard, but that doesn't mean he isn't getting away with murder... Getting away with murder can make a good defender an elite defensive guard.2 points -

If either SMU & Iowa are in & seeded above us, I'm pissed. If you use the blind formula, both of them come up short when compared head to head against us. Only reason they are getting so much respect is b/c they were ranked. Wisconsin just showed what a power house & how well they are playing. Those guys are surely a ONE seed if they finish out winning the conference tourney. We beat them during the time period where they were playing best. I think the members of the committee watch enough big time basketball that they'll put us in & seed us appropriately. There is little difference between us & Ohio St (I actually think we are better but we didn't close it out today). We're much better than Iowa there is NO WAY they should be seeded above us. If we're in one of the play in games, Iowa is in the NIT. Nobody has that scenario. But Iowa fans should be sweating. I still think we're going to be a 10 or 11 seed & in the round of 64.2 points -

Man what absolute crap. People use the DVR to tape games when they won't be around so there is no way to check to see if they are taping the right game. Obviously I did not see the notice, but if the cable/satellite companies did and did not switch the info how is one to know what to tape? I know the mickey-mouse operation that is ESPN can't figure out which game to put on which channel until the last minute (because midday second round conference tournament games at are going to have a huge national audience that we need to flip the games around) but I even checked the Dish schedule this morning. Next time I'm just going to opt for pirated internet broadcasts from my office.2 points -
Not being ready for the full-court press was unforgivable, especially considering our struggles against that this season. The no-call on Ross's travel after which he hit two free throws followed by the travel call on Shields was big.2 points

All in all it been a long day both at the office and as a Husker fan. When we were up by 18 points and OSU put on the full court man to man press, after several attempts to handle it, which resulted in a total momentum changing meltdown, it was apparent that our players did not know what to do. It was obvious that we were stacking four players all within five to ten feet of the in bounds line to receive the in bounds pass and that gave the defense the advantage because they had only a small area to deny the in bounds pass. I was disappointed that our players did not know enough to get the ball in quickly after a made basket and they did not know that the receiver of the in bounds pass needs space to receive the ball and to dribble the ball after receiving it, but what really troubles me is that after the timeout it appeared to me that either the coaches did not convey this knowledge or the players did not follow through on that that knowledge. All in all, the OSU press and our inability to handle it was what put the game on the line at he end and we got a no call on the OSU travel, but I love this team and Tim Miles is the best coach we have ever had in my long memory.1 point

Last night on Bracket Matrix, we were in 100 of 103 brackets ... this afternoon's update has us in 102 of 103 - 11 seed as the 6th to last at large team in, so that's good news as well - I think we're in, any upsets today or tomorrow just determine whether we avoid the First Four games. Should be a great party at PBA tomorrow! By the way Iowa is a 10 seed on Bracket Matrix but is on 97 of 103 brackets, a lot of variance in what the bracket projectors think of Iowa, anywhere from an 8 seed to completely out. I'd be sweating a bit if I was a Iowa fan ... and they have more time to sweat now that they can't yell at their players on Twitter.1 point -

I was so mad yesterday with the loss but I also know the players and coaches were even more pissed. Should be a great growing experience and will make this team stronger. This team should never have even been in this position this year but they blocker out the haters and got here. Need to work on press break, rebounding and just being smarter to not pick up cheap fouls. We do that and not have Jim burr officiate our games we will be OK! Let's enjoy today doing other things and cone back for tomorrow and see what happens. GBR!1 point -

Travelling
MikeWelch937 reacted to hhcscott for a topic
First, I'm going to agree that traveling is not called as often as it should be (just like carrying and hand checking) BUT to your football comparison, sure offsides isn't allowed, but holding and illegal contact with a receiver aren't called nearly as often as they happen, but then on a big play or a key moment they are called, It's a problem to call any of these always because there would be no flow to the game. Ideally we would start a program at the lowest levels to have coaches and officials have zero tolerance for fundamental lapses, but pre-teen to teen boys would hate to play for AAU coaches who want to spend time on dribbling instead of on shooting. Heck, when I coached 8th grade boys, left to their own devices they wanted to practice half court shots instead of layups. I do think we have to have consistency in what is called, maybe you get three steps, or maybe it has to lead to a distinct competitive advantage,1 point -

You seem to be missing some vital details after how you plan on lining up.But I have complained to a co-worker all year it isn't just our inbounds vs a full court press - it is every time we have to inbounds the ball. We seem to have one BLOB play that is effective and everything else is please let us get this in before the 5 count. btw - still thrilled to death with the way the season has gone. http://www.coachesclipboard.net/4AcrossPressBreak.htmlNot all the details and I prefer to move them to the top of the key....lots of variations off this line up...it forces spacing, and allows you to attack not be passive. I like the four across press break (but not really any of the options on your link - IMO unecessairly complicated.) I preferred just teaching them how to break a trap instead of a specific press breaker. Find out where your opponent wants to trap and get someone under the trap, one splitting the trap & one over the trap & the goes to your basket to spread them out. I taught how to split traps & things like the reverse x-over dribble to get traps going the wrong way but it appears to me that Nebraska's trouble is just getting it in which your four across is good at fixing. If they match up it is now a m-4-m press at least on the inbounds. I like just a point breaking hard to and then through the baseline on an arc. If they defense ends up behind even slightly the point can get the ball on the dribble already attacking. If they hold the full front stop right at they baseline & lock them up for the throw over the top. If they don't guard the ball & deploy that defender to take away this over the top pass then I would have my point stop right on the oob's line. That puts the defender out of bounds. Hit him with the ball. The rules read that coming in contact with the ball across the line can result in a technical. I realize getting hit in the butt was not the rules intent but it still counts. There was a coach who loudly proclaimed this action unsportsmanlike as we walked down to shoot the technical foul with 2 seconds left and a tie ball game. See, I have always been a little bit of an asshole.1 point -
