Not too worried about that 2nd half. At one point we had a lineup of Woster, Sam, Conner, Cale, and Meah. Now getting Berk and Gary back….. that’s a worry.6 points -

Pretty fun game to attend. A pretty good crowd, I’d estimate 12,000+ Meah absolutely ate the inside, all his points came on dunks. South Dakota did have a 7’ center, but Braxton was on a different level. Our depth definitely paid off. To lose Gary and Berke and have Brice in foul trouble. It was nice to have some guys who could still maintain our lead. I actually think Gavin is in his head, just lacks some confidence out there. At this point, I see why he is still in the rotation, but honestly Cale has more experience and can handle the ball better and makes better passes. I do think Gavin will hit his stride at some point. If Connor shoots like the past couple of games we are a completely different team. Remarkable we went from a “if Brice doesn’t get 27 we are doomed” mentality to “we are pretty well balanced” haha.4 points -

Our depth came through for us tonight. Good offense in the first half and not the best defense in the 2nd. Winning comfortably without Gary and Berke and with Williams in foul trouble has to be encouraging. Need everyone healthy fast.4 points -

Agreed about Gavin. He needs confidence and you can tell Fred is trying to help him with that with some wrinkles designed for him. For us to become the team we are capable of, we need Gavin to command minutes. He’s fully capable of giving us 18 minutes a game, 6 points, and 3/4 rebounds with + defense. I’m really high on him and I hope Fred can get it out of him.3 points -

Good win against a decent team. We played most of the game sans two starters. Loved that Essigian took a major step forward on offense tonight. Good to see. I was a bit disappointed with our defense effort and our general lack of intensity. We also did a below average job with our ball handling. Perhaps I am not giving enough credit to South Dakota. Their ability to take it to the basket was a big concern, we have some players that cannot stop the dribble drive. Our bigs could not close out on them either. So, something to fix moving forward.3 points -

Markowski is getting a lot more attention this year. We still are working through the process of getting her the ball in good spots and she also needs to make quicker decisions since she is drawing 2 and sometimes 3 players sagging in on her. I feel like it will come. Best cure is she passes to a guard who makes them pay with a made three.3 points -

I'm going to take a somewhat different viewpoint. There seems to be more parity in the league this year. Many teams can look good; yet many are capable of falling flat as well (Indiana certainly laid an egg versus Louisville today). I guess what I am saying is, yes it will be a grind; but I see this as a great opportunity to go out and exceed expectations.2 points -

Seemed like So Dak was way more physical. First half, the refs swallowed their whistles, which allowed So Dak to get away with a lot of bumping and hand checks and generally physical play, which I think directly lead to our injuries. Last 10 minutes it's like the refs remembered they had whistles and started making up for lost time.2 points -

Griffiths has probably played himself into being the 10th man for now (assuming everyone is healthy). He looks completely lost and has no confidence in his shot. I hope something clicks with him soon. Let down defensively and intensity wise was pretty predictable after the hard 40 minutes vs Creighton. A bit disheartening how many straight line drives they had in the second half but the line ups we had out there were pretty funky also. feel pretty good about our front court assuming everyone’s healthy. Things look better with meah setting more picks and handling the ball less up top. Morgan is a bit clunky but is pretty skilled offensively and seems to rebound at a high clip. Berke does it all and has been a much better rebounder than expected. Not enough positive things to say about what Gary does for us. I don’t see it with GG on defense. Don’t think he’s ever gonna be a good on ball defender. I do think he eventually runs into making some shots and athleticism/length wise he brings some great things off the bench. I just wish he was stronger with the ball when he has it in his hands. had alil higher hopes for Uhlis too. Didn’t think he would light up the score board but thought he would take care of the ball and be somewhat of a defensive stopper….he doesn’t look like either so far It’s great to have a guy like Jacobsen who you can throw into the rotation in a pinch but doesn’t have to be in it every game too.1 point -
Notes from UNL Nebraska has now won 16 straight games at home dating back to last season. Nebraska’s 96 points was a season high (86 vs. FDU) and the most since scoring 100 points in a four OT loss at NC State on Dec. 1, 2001. It was NU’s highest total in regulation since scoring 110 against Doane on Dec. 17, 2020. Connor Essegian finished with a career-high 29 points, bettering his previous career best of 24 against Michigan on Feb. 26, 2023, when he was at Wisconsin. It marked his third career 20-point game and first as a Husker. Essegian’s 29 points were the most by a Husker this season. Essegian set career bests in both 3-pointers (six) and assists (five). His six 3-pointers was the most by a Husker since Rienk Mast had six against Ohio State on Jan. 23, 2024. Essegian’s five assists were a career high, as his previous best was three on two previous occasions, most recently on Dec. 6, 2022 Essegian’s 29 points is the most by a Husker off the bench since at least 2004. It is the ninth time under Hoiberg that a Husker reserve scored at least 20 points. It was the fifth time this season that a Husker reserve reached double figures. Nebraska finished with a season-high 13 3-pointers, including 10 in the first half. NU’s previous season high was seven. Nebraska posted its fifth double-digit run of the season, as Brice Williams had 10 of his 21 in the spurt. Nebraska’s 24 assists was a season high and most since dishing out 25 assists in the win over Doane in 2020. The last time Nebraska recorded 20 or more assists was against Indiana last season in the Big Ten Tournament. NU posted a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio with 24 assists and 12 turnovers. Nebraska finished with 10 steals, the fourth time in six games with double-digit steals. Brice Williams reached double figures for the 10th straight game dating back to last season with his 21-point effort. It is the longest stretch of his career. Williams has three 20-point games this season and six in NU’s last nine games dating back to last season. The 54 first-half points is the most since scoring 54 against Doane on Dec. 17 2020, most vs. D-1 team since scoring 55 in the first half against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 6, 2018. It was the 10th time under Fred Hoiberg where Nebraska scored at least 50 first-half points. Braxton Meah (12 points on 6-of-6 shooting) and Sam Hoiberg (nine points) also finished with season highs in points Nebraska got 51 points from its bench in the win.1 point

This first 12 minutes we played great, assuming everyone comes back healthy I have a ton of hope for this year. The second half was brutal all around. But we showed we can win against adversity, and we got a ton of real game minutes with guys who will need to step up at some point this year…. But hopefully we don’t need them all at the same time again I was thinking Berke triple before his injury. We need him back and healthy ASAP. Gavin reminds me a little bit of a freshman year Roby. He just needs a little bit of muscle and some confidence and he could do some damage. Connor has to have this mentality every game. It seems like he’s finally getting comfortable with the idea of the 100% green light that Fred gives. Most defenses will be better than USD, but he still needs to fire away. Brice is Brice. Not much more to say besides he is the guy. Team Berke. GBR1 point

Whoop said "way early, but, have watched two iowa games. they look pretty darn good" Yeah. Sadly, I say, "yeah". I thought that losing to Iowa might be over for a while. They lost so much from last year - not just CC but all the Ms - and the Huskers, I thought, might have best team ever. Then Iowa added one of the very best players available from the portal and the Huskers lost their best player. I have watched two Iowa games and they look great. Playing them would be a toss up WITH Potts - without her I fear we are in for more losses to Iowa. Oh, how I hope to be wrong.1 point -
