  1. Of note, the ankle that Ashworth sprained was from the leg that he stuck about 3 feet forward in an effort to draw a foul. I like how Greggie took a subtle dig in his after-game presser by saying "he's a 3 pt shooter, defenseless. What can you do?" Well, for starters, you can land in the area you jumped from, not contort yourself trying to work the ref. Sorry for the rant...

  2. The key to beating Kalk is to go right at his chest. He doesn't foul, so he's almost too conservative for his own good. Creighton has problems with Ashworth getting hurt, and they have major problems at the 3/4 position. Loved Juwan and if Conor plays like this all season we are a DANGEROUS team. Also give Nate Loenser whatever he wants keep that guy around forever.

  3. Greg also talked about all of the ways CU lost the game, not how the opponent just flat out beat them today. Fred doesn't pull this crap and always gives credit where credit is due.

  7. Absolutely. We know nothing about this team or the teams we've played so far, really. Creighton seems to me to have been vastly overrated based purely on reputation alone. These guys have a long ways to go before I'll even consider them a potential NIT team.

  8. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of his at all, BUT that performance is about all we need from him: 10-15 minutes 6 rebounds 0 missed shots (if he gets a dunk opportunity, great. Otherwise don't be handling the ball or trying to score) 0 turnovers Solid, physical defense Took away the other team's big man

  10. They were pretty terrible for a long stretch in the 1980s and early 1990s until Altman got it going. When I was growing up, NU just didn't lose to those guys, so we built a pretty big series lead. I mean it was a rivalry game (kind of), but it was also a series where you could go to the Civic 30 minutes before tipoff and buy decent seats from the box office with a 75/25 NU crowd. Altman flipped the series and basically saved their entire athletic program, or they'd still be a mid-level Mo Valley team. Pretty crazy to think how lucky they got with that hire - especially the timing with conference realignment on the horizon. It's beyond time for us to flip it again, that's for sure.

  11. Woke up at sunrise this morning, poured a small glass of a liquor I procured in Mexico City that I only consume on very special occasions, walked out on my LaVista deck, and read every single comment about the game on Bluejay Underground as the sun rose. Mmm…delicious. My soul is full.

  13. Good take...BUT...I am not convinced that Purdue is close to last year's team. In my humble opinion, we are clearly more talented and deeper than Purdue.

  14. I went to high school at LSE at the same time as Nick and he also had zero interest in attending Nebraska. During Nick's junior year, Roy Williams actually drove-up to watch him practice one morning and discussed him walking-on at KU with the potential of earning a scholarship. Nebraska had signed Jake Muhleisen two years prior and had definitely reached-out through LSE Coach Jeff Smith, but there was no interest on Nick's part after Roy Williams put delusions of grandeur into his head.

  16. And it was still easily his best game as a Husker.

  17. I hate Creighton as much as the next guy, but I will never hate on Nick Bahe. Listened to all his stuff for years and he loves Fred Hoiberg and goes out of his way to compliment the staff and our program. He genuinely wants Nebraska to be good at basketball. Also he's said in the past Barry Collier never offered him a scholarship, so hard to be mad at a guy for not coming to Nebraska when Nebraska didn't want him.

  18. +/- at Creighton Gary +11 Meah +9 Hoiberg +9 Berke +8 Essegian +8 Ulis +5 Worster +4 Griffiths +4 Williams +1 Morgan +1 Jacobsen -5 Notable from this game: Gary was the best player on the court and it shows at +11. Meah easily had his best game as a Husker. Williams at +1 in an 11-point win is interesting. The Jacobsen at the 5 emergency lineup for 1 minute didn't go well. Season +/- (Team +59) Berke +53 Worster +40 Gary +37 Griffiths +34 Essegian +31 Hoiberg +25 Williams +24 Meah +12 Morgan +11 Ulis +11 Jacobsen +7 Grace +5 Burt +5

    Preseason top 25

Watched part of it. UCLA could do no wrong. They have an active 6-7 big that pretty much had her way on the boards. Last night UCLA was the better team, by quite a bit. They were ahead by 20 a lot of the time.

  22. Yeah, I took it as Greg passive aggressively blaming Rollie for the injury. He's often passive aggressive and smug in his press conferences, but he does it with a little smile so I guess it's hard for some people to see through that. Lost respect for him 11 years ago after the Gibbs Petteway scuffle. Obviously a dirty play by Gibbs, which was normal for him. Greg was asked about it later. He winked at the reporter and said, "Gibbs is my guy." No accountability.

  25. A completely self-inflicted injury. He began the jump shot going straight up, wasn't fading at all, then decided to try to draw a foul. Left foot landed behind the three point line, kicked his right leg way out to try to make it seem like Rollie was in his landing area and his right foot landed three feet inside the arc. Landed very awkwardly because of it. This stuff drives me nuts. I hope the era of trying to deceive officials into calling fouls rather than just playing basketball comes to an end soon. Very unfortunate for Creighton because Ashworth is so vital to their team this year.

    2025 Baseball

I missed this when it was reported last month, but it looks like the B1G baseball tournament will take the top 12 teams and use a pod / bracket format like the ACC uses. So I think it's seeds 1-8-12 / 2-7-11 / 3-6-10 / 4-5-9 in each pod, which would be Tuesday thru Friday - 3 games at the site each day. The four pod winners play semifinals Saturday and the final is on Sunday. Definitely a good way to get more teams a chance to earn the NCAA bid - gives the top 4 seeds a big advantage, though, as if everyone ties at 1-1 in the pod, the highest seed advances. Basically, if you aren't the top seed in the pod, you can't advance to the semifinals unless you go 2-0. Last year in the ACC tournament, I don't think any of the top 4 seeds made the semifinal, so maybe it won't be as "chalk" as it feels like it could be. Will be nice from a fan attendance standpoint, as you know exactly when your team plays before the tournament starts. Ultimately, I think you have to get more than 8 teams to the conference tournament when you are only playing 10 of the 16 other teams during the regular season. If you draw a tough B1G schedule and finish 15-15, you deserve to have a guaranteed shot in the conference tourney. Wouldn't have a guaranteed shot in an 8-team tourney but everyone .500 or over will make it in a 12-team tourney, plus a few under .500 teams.

  34. Watched a couple of YouTube replays of the game. After seeing the game as opposed to hearing it, the obvious thing that did us in was poor perimeter defense. It has done us in for several years, and we don't seem to react with defensive schemes that slows them down. Ugh ! Volleyball This ain't a volleyball forum, but if your a NU sports fan this YouTube video is very insightful. I'm a Husker fan, no matter the sport. Watch if you want.

  35. Has anyone asked Tom Shatel for his cuurent top 10 Nebraska/Creighton combined player rankings? Not sure any Husker players would crack his list yet but Brice, Juwan, Berke, Essegian... should all be getting close!

  38. That was a masterclass by the coaches on how to play Kalk on both ends of the floor. I assumed going in that Kalk would have 8 blocks and Creighton would make a ton of open threes off of double teams like most teams seem to do to us. The defense was insane. He never even got the ball to kick out to the shooters to pass around the perimeter. And even though Creighton shot a ton of threes the shooters rarely had time to get comfortable. Offensively the way we attacked was brilliant. We aren’t a great shooting team so we either attacked where Kalk wasn’t or our drivers went right into his chest like you are supposed to do against a shot blocker. I am just amazed we did it a full 40. I thought against Saint Mary’s our team started to figure out how the pieces fit together. But I never expected a dominant performance like this!

  42. Fantastic defensive game plan by the coaches - and great defensive effort by the team. Should give them all blackshirts like we did for Gary and Bandoumel a couple years ago when we won up there. Now I wish Ashworth had not gotten hurt as badly as it looks. Without him everyone playing them will follow our lead and just focus on taking Kalkbrenner out of the game. The other Creighton guys this year are not good enough offensively for them to win games against good teams. Don't care about that except it might not make this as good of a game for our resume as in otherwise might be.
