  2. And we have 7 wins. And 7 players shooting 35% (rounded) or better from 3-point range. Four at 40% or better. Four guys averaging between 14 and 16 points per game. Our portal post is averaging a double-double. Our portal SG is shooting almost 42% from 3 and over 90% from the line while posting a 2.4:1 assist/turnover ratio. Our portal native Nebraskan is putting up darn close to the numbers he posted a year ago as a starter at New Mexico in 6 fewer minutes per game. Our SG-converted-into-a-PG has dished 23 assists to only 10 turnovers on the season, and zero turnovers in the last 3 games. What we didn't find in the portal we seemed to have found within our own numbers. It'll be interesting to see what we do on Sunday, but it looks for all the world like all of our major roster needs over the off-season have been addressed. This just has the looks of a team that's going to win some games this year.

You know we're having a good year when we're nitpicking about a guy who currently has a 64.6% eFG%

This is the strangest 4 game stretch I can remember and one of the most nervous stretches I’ve had since our late run to dance. 3-1 or 2-2 seems a likely outcome with how we’ve played. However we can’t omit the possibility that we go 1-3 or even 0-4. That would be a disaster but it’s entirely possible because… Nebrasketball. Whats new, however, is that going 4-0 isn’t a complete pipe dream this year. We have a chance in every single one of these games. Our two toughest (MSU and CU) are at home, Minny should be a W provided we just do what we do, and KSU looks a little down compared to last year. We also have a team that I can confidently say going 4-0 isn’t a pipe dream. It’ll be tough, no doubt. It shouldn’t be expected. But it also can’t be written off like in years past. We could theoretically go anywhere from 0-4 to 4-0. So yeah… the nerves are kicking in just a bit today.

  6. This feels like a TEAM . Even in the past when we had success we were so reliant on 2-3 guys to carry the load. We have 10 guys who can give us minutes and they all seem to know their role. We have legit shooters but also guys who can play defense. Mast has been a joy to watch. Allick is the bulldog we all have wanted. I don’t want to get too excited because I am too use to getting kicked in the groin by sports when I am happy but this team is fun to watch. If they can continue to blend, I assume the cream will rise to the top and we will be closer to 8 deep but nice to have so much depth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. This Team isn’t even CLOSE to hitting its ceiling & we might not even find that out until deep in the Conference schedule.

  8. CJ also hit the side of the backboard. Gary needs to go to the basket more I agree but he has a completely different shot than last year. His FT’s are just under 70% and after the last game he is still shooting about 38% from three. Even in the last game he shot 33%. So attack the basket more but he still can catch and shoot within the offense.

  9. Too many guys on the roster think they have a 'green light' on deep balls when in reality it ought to be a small number of dudes.

  10. he is missing horribly on so many shots. Airballs, bricks off the side of the glass etc. It tells me his made percentage is fluky high. Needs to be wide open in perfect shooting stance for it to be a reasonable shot IMO.

I don’t care how you’d swing the loss, if we go 3-1 in this stretch and aren’t in the Top 25, it’s strictly because of the name on the front of our jersey. All three of CU, MSU, and KSU are acceptable losses. Losing to Minny would hurt but it would mean going 3-0 against the aforementioned and the Minny game would be a road game. Happy we got votes this week, but I don’t think we deserve them just yet. Give any top half of a major conference team our schedule and the majority would also be 7-0. However, we go 3-1 or even 2-2 and one of those 2 losses isn’t Minny… we should be ranked.

  14. Jamarques deserves some love for sure. His shooting is still coming around, but he's over 71% from the FT line compared to last year's 38.7% rate. I knew he was better than that number from last year. I knew that would come around. What I love to see with him is how fast he pushes the ball up the floor in transition. His handles appear to have improved significantly over last year. He's making good decisions and he's dishing the ball without being selfish. Which is what we wanted from a PG. He's a guy who actually has the speed and handles to challenge defenses going to the rim. He just needs to finish better. His 3-point shot needs to start dropping a little more consistently. But if you look at just his 2-point shooting in the last 4 games (the first 3 were rough), he's hitting over 57% on his 2-point shots. That's really efficient. And in those last 4 games, he's also dished 16 assists, grabbed 14 boards, and only turned it over 3 times. And his defense remains on point. Cutting him some slack on those first 3 games while he's trying to settle into a new role, and it looks like he's becoming the PG we hoped he could become.

Came to post the same as it relates to the prospect of going 1-3 in the next 4. Hopefully Trev doesn't plan on setting up any boutique style, bloody mary vendors for this game; I don't want those guys feeling at home at all on Sunday.

  18. The record is 696 in 1991 in 34 games. That's 20.4 per game! All of our assist records per year were between 1983 and 1986 and I'd attribute that to style. A few things likely contributed to this and @Norm Peterson I think this is where making more shots mattered. For the Moe Iba teams, it was having Dave Hoppen from 1983-86 (and Brian Carr starting in 1984). In 1986 two things happened: The 3pt line was officially introduced and Danny Nee became the head coach. Nee ran a high pass, 2pt centric offense and the 3pt line would open up more space for easier makes. Nee's teams would often be among the top 20 for assists in the coutnry. If we make a post season run there is a chance we can crack the top 10 just by playing 34+ games.

The only way i'd take 1-3 is if the 1 is to those sweater vests from omaha. 2-2 most likely but if we go 3-1 im buying plane tickets for march. idk where to - but im buying them.

  20. Best part is we can impose our will on teams and not get pushed around. We roll that big front line out there and then Gary comes of the bench; opponents know they're in for a tough, bruising game.

This is a deep team. Leaves me to wonder/fear if there are any transfer whispers with players that are not currently inside the 9 man rotation? Definitely not saying there is; but player handlers can tend to push these days.

  22. Down vote away, I really hope I am wrong, I would love to be wrong, but it's what I think will happen. For the record, I hate Crayton with the best of them. Hell if they went 0-30 it would be one to many wins.

  23. Probably something to do with our shooting percentage. We're finally hitting shots. So many times in the past, the assist was lost because the guy who caught the pass missed a wide-open shot or just didn't take the shot. The passes were there, though.

Gary could certainly use the fact that he’s made a couple threes to get the defense closing out hard and/or up in the air, then attack off of it and get to the basket and free throw line when he’s not totally open. Now he’s just gotta make that move and not huck it up there every time.

I want to say 4-0. I should be happy with 2-2. So I went with 3-1, whilst thinking with my heart rather than my brain. I hate to say this; but if things go south, we could even be 0-4.

We also look confident… with a little bit of cocky which isn’t the worst thing in the world. We don’t walk into a gym hoping to win this year… we walk in expecting to win and plan on look good doing it. Things won’t always go our way. We will lose some games. We haven’t seen adversity yet and we can always go by up. However, all that being said… this looks like a tourney team… against cruddy teams yes, but a tourney team nonetheless. Creighton is a huge test and challenge but I have a feeling the guys are up to it.

  30. In reading the comments, my favorite one was that "Neither team will make it past the 2nd round in the tournament". Clearly someone doesn't understand our history if they think that is taking a shot at Nebraska (and Purdue)

Sometimes sitting and watching can be helpful for a guy like Juwan Gary, he's able to see how to play with those around him better. He's probably always relied on his freakish athleticism, but now he's had the ability to be a more rounded, mindful player in the system at NU. I think he's a significant X-factor in the next matchup

Yep. He's the definition of taking lemons and making lemonade. He's had to swim upstream his whole career and done it not only with success, but with a great attitude the whole time to boot. I will never apologize for having a soft spot for Coach Miles, the world could use a lot more people just like him.

  36. Tim was a good person and a coach that was easy to root for. His players seemed to like playing for him, he always represented the university well. He did his best to take this program to a new level and was damn close. I think a lot of people just want to see him do well, myself included. I’d love it if he could take a team to the dance and win some games. I’ll always feel terrible for him that he was bounced from our game vs. Baylor.

  38. Nope. Over the last 2 games I've noticed there have been more than a couple times Tominaga was open and they didn't pass him the ball and reversed it the other way. Williams had an egregious one today. But I've seen a few others do it too. Hopefully just a coincidence and nothing more.

  40. Keisei made three or four passes that should have resulted in FG/assists. So the lack of assists were not due to lack of effort. In addition, I really thought that the team really didn't look Tominaga's way often enough. That may just be my imagination though.
