  1. People who have watched Nebraska football over the last 20 years know that a 99% win chance does not actually mean that there is a 99% chance of winning

  8. They blew a 20 point lead. At one point Dawson Garcia was dribbling the ball between his legs before half court with no one guarding him and got called for 20 seconds. It's systematic and we can only hope that somehow Ben Johnson retains his job as long as possible.

  9. To me you're looking at it backwards....you shoot 3s to keep a defense honest because that gives you the space to convert in the paint. I do think in some games we might find value feeding Mast and letting him go to work with that hook shot but on most conference nights were better off having Big 10 post players follow him out to the 3pt line.

  10. For me, I don’t care what the ratio is at should change game to game based on what the defense is giving you. What needs to change is somewhat challenged treys early in the shot clock. We need to hunt easy layups or wide open threes the first 18-19 seconds. We can typically get a partial contested trey in the last ten seconds if we need to. We are going to be mediocre at best if we don’t figure this out soon.

  11. Oregon St checks in at #170 on Kenpom, having won in overtime at home against #176 Appalachian St in OT and against #224 Troy in Double OT. In three games so far, they've gone to OT twice. At home. To teams with an average Kenpom ranking of 200. Not saying it'll be easy, but we really better kick their @$$.

  13. Yet he seems to get along with the referee's. He chats with them coming out of time outs and so forth. Heck if I was Keisei, and I was angry, I would simply speak Japanese and the refs would have no clue if I was angry.

  15. Has yet to play a minute it D-1 so I'm not sure he's cracking the rotation at this point. Seems to me that when he's ready to play he needs to be prepare to wait for opportunity and be ready when it comes.

  17. I have been a little surprised at the comments about Brice Williams needing to show more emotion on the court. I find it enjoyable watching a kid just play and not show the emotion that some athletes feel they have to show. Tominaga is one that comes to mind. No doubt he is fun to watch but his antics are starting to get old to this old school basketball fan. I don't need to see a gesture from him every time he makes a shot. I know he plays on emotion but I like it when guys act like they were suppose to make that shot, basically act like you have been there before. I think KT right now is trying to do to much and just needs to let the game come to him. Please don't take this as complaining because I do like to watch KT play, just a minor concern from a long time fan. As for guys like Williams and Lawrence, don't change a thing. I guess variety is the spice of life and the challenge of being a coach is to blend the different personalities together into a cohesive unit.

  22. For the most part I agree though I do see some value in Keisei firing up 1-2 WTF shots a game to expand the defense. At no point do I want Juwan Gary taking those types of shots.

  26. I like it too. Although, I respectfully disagree about Hake. I have not been impressed with her defense. In fact, I see her as a liability on defense. She constantly loses sight of her man (woman lol), and she's not fast enough to run the full court press (in my opinion). Moriarity is though. I like White, Potts and KM guarding full court and initiating the trap. In my opinion, they are our best defenders. Nissley also seems like she might be a little too slow to keep up that intensity, but I hope I'm wrong.

  27. Creighton gets knocked off by Green Bay. Is that good or bad for our Lady Huskers? I like it. I think we can win it with defense. White, Hake, and Nissley should hound their guards. Markowski and Potts could control down low. And I like our length defending the "3". The Kendal's, Potts, Petrie ramping up the perimeter "D". Could be an entertaining game. Looking forward to it.

Iowa was beaten by Kansas St for the 2nd year consecutively. The Wildcats controlled the tempo and nearly lost it by clanking free throws.

I-State beat Iowa last year. They made Iowa play a half court game and utilized their 6’6” center inside. You have to control the pace to beat Iowa.

    Emotion vs Intensity

The group I went with last night were discussing KT's gestures on the way home. Our main concern was a ref deciding to give him a technical at a key moment. He also seems to be begging for calls at times.

  35. I think KT's teammates certainly know what kind of a threat he is on offense. I just hope that KT understands that he has a lot of help on that end and doesn't need to try and carry the team.

    Emotion vs Intensity

I like what I've seen so far from the new guys and the way they handle themselves on the court. Very businesslike but there is some fire there as well. The entire team appears to be that way which I like. Regarding KT, I don't care for the antics either but it is a part of the game right now unfortunately. Heck, I recall Walker flexing on a few occasions last season and even Griesel did the 'too small' sign after a make. No need for that IMO.

  37. As the schedule become more challenging, Fred is gong to have to shorten his bench. In the second half, the starters came out and quickly extended the lead to something like 16 points. But then the subs came in and lost it just as quickly. I have been a big supporter of Sam H., but I simply don't see the need or value in playing both Sam and Boogie, let along both of them together. One of them should be the backup PG, and whoever loses that battle should not play against good teams. Gary was a beast, and he showed why he should be starting and finishing over Allick at PF. Mast is showing he can be an very good passer/facilitator, much like Walker. It will be fun watching him continue to develop that chemistry and timing with Keisei and others as the season progresses. There is a dropoff when Reink goes out and Allick goes to center. Allick is not a rim protector and does not have Reink's size to body up down low. Allick also is not as skilled an offensive player or passer. I hope Reink is in excellent shape because his minutes are going to be critical this season. The missed layups/bunnies are going to be a continuing frustration this season. The reality is that guys like JL and Brice are the players who are best at getting to the rim, but simply are not good/great finishers at the rim, especially through traffic/contact. On the positive side, Brice is very good at getting the foul called on contact. There are so many times it feels like he is getting bailed out because if he didn't get fouled, I doubt he would convert the shot. It will be interesting to see if B1G teams scout this and try not to foul him as much in the paint. JL has been serviceable at PG, but not great, and he still has not found his shot. It would be real nice to see him drain 3 or 4 threes in a game just to get his confidence up. Still seems like there is a bit of selfish play going on. Late in the 2nd half there was a stretch of about 5 minutes where it seemed Keisei did not receive a single touch, almost as if his teammates were intentionally not passing to him because they thought he would shoot it. I am just speculating of course, and maybe I am reading something into nothing, but I just feel that when Keisei is on the court, he should be involved in the offense in at least some manner almost every time down the court. He is still the best offensive weapon, and the other players need to accept that.

  38. I think I mentioned this previously but we have leap-frogged Indiana and Northwestern so we are more middle of the pack now than ever in the Hoiberg era. Ken has also upgraded out predicted record to 19-12 (10-10). San José State hasn't played this week so their ranking holds steady at #144. KenPom rankings as of 11-16-23 ======================= B1G (0-0): 1. Purdue 23. Michigan 29. Illinois 32. Michigan State 33. Wisconsin 39. Iowa 46. Maryland 49. Ohio State 54. Nebraska 59. 39. I'm not going to say that Stonybrook was dirty, but they were very aggressive on defense with very quick, active hands, slapping at the ball on drives and getting away with what I thought was much more contact than we were allowed on the other end. The Brice Williams PG experiment needs to come to an end. Other guys start calling their own number when one guy starts doing it. It's like @basketballjones said above, more eloquently than I've been saying it: We have to run our sh!t. That weave action gets the defense moving, shifting, switching, adjusting. It gets them off balance. That doesn't happen if you waive off your teammate and decide to take matters into your own hands. Rotating Gary, Mast and Allick through the frontline, with the occasional Brice Williams, is a solid rotation up front. I hope Gary can continue to shoot FG the way he did tonight. I hope he improves his FT shooting, though. And I'm confident Keisei is going to settle in and get back into the flow of things. It's just a matter of time. That stretch where we pulled out to 16 and they cut it to 7 was a surreal stretch where they were hitting crazy shots that they might not make in any game again this season. They were just hoisting shit up and getting it to drop. If they're that good when they get into their conference play, they'll roll to a championship.

  40. - Stony Brook had some dudes, man. I wonder if they’ll make some noise in their conference? You can’t be “bad” with that guard play. And they had some serviceable size too. Well coached. - Some maddening stuff to start the game but they got in a better rhythm eventually. - KT’s gotta let the game come to him more and be focused on the other stuff to start the game. You could see his teammates getting a little frustrated. - Well Gary looked nice… dang. That’s a new element. - Our dudes are menaces on the glass. Adding Gary just made us even more menacing. He and Allick are bash brother’s material. - Guys…. Is Mast a better passer than Walker?!?!? Walker will absolutely hit you when you’re open a cut - Mast made guys open on some cuts. He threw some “if you’re even you’re open” passes that were to tight windows. - These guys have got to realize that Fred’s offensive system works if you do what he asks you to do first, and then read and react based off what it gave you. They gotta cut harder, move it faster, screen better, and dudes are gonna be wiiiide open. Can’t just go through the motions with those initial weaves and passes - that’s where everything gets set up. - Speaking of screening: ghost screens are the worst thing to happen to basketball in the last five years. They can’t be the fundamental aspect of your offense. Set hard, decisive screens. Ghost 1/5 times.
