  1. Ok- first of all - during the first half we were tested and pushed by BC’s hot shooting. I thought it was going to be another close one, KT carried us in the first half. I think at one point he scored 11 straight or something like that. Awesome to see CJ find his shot. His confidence grew and that’s a very good thing. Many are going to say “it’s fun when we make them” but that’s simplifying it a bit. First, our defensive intensity and effort overall was very good. We hustle and give great effort. Those two tenants were not always guaranteed last year. To me, the ball movement and moving without the ball, putting strain on BC’s defense, is what made the night special. This is what I thought a Hoiberg offense could do. We passed so crisp and clean - Even Keita had some nice passes. I said it earlier this season. Gary, Bandoumel, and Dawson are Big Ten level athletes. Sam is a big ten sized guard. We have some interesting pieces. But tonight belonged to Keisei Tominaga. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 23 point effort with just one missed shot. That’s incredible. Unbelievable actually. His offense was much needed, but he had some great assists on cutting players. He even had a steal and caused a couple of other bad passes. Like the announcer said, he’s just a smart, heady basketball player. His energy is infectious and the joy that he plays in the game - loved his postgame interview too. This was a tough, tough day for Husker fans. This game helped me escape for a couple of hours. Finally fellas, Go Big Red!!!

  4. They come, they go. We'll fill a roster for next year and whoever they have will be our team, the team we cheer for. I'll let the coaches worry about who those players are going to be at this point.

  6. Three likes in no particular order. Defense. Hey, they're starting to click. They're *communicating.* They're talking, they're pointing, they're not leaving their feet on close-outs, they're switching screens better, they're not losing guys. There was ONE TIME in the second half they failed to get back on D after a really nice make (when they got up by 27) and it's like they were so shocked they forgot to go back and play D. That only happened once. I thought the defense, for the most part, looked really solid. Keisei. Hit some threes but he did a lot more than that. And he wasn't a defensive liability. Really good to see him have a solid game almost mistake free. Multiple touches on almost every possession. Only a couple times in the 2nd half did I really see a guy put his head down and decide to take it himself when there was an easy pass that was clearly a better option. Some of the passing was next level. Blaise Keita made a touch pass to Gary for a layup that was so quick, if you'd have blinked, you would have missed it.

  7. What a great game! Tominaga was feelin' it! I really like this team. This very second I see this team making it to .500 The basketball gods can try and break my spirit over the next couple weeks. Tonight they can suck it!

  8. A few of us were discussing Keisei after the game. He has unquestionably upped his game. His defense, his consistency and his ability to get to the rim (and his creativity at the rim) seemingly all improved. But, I think his number one asset is his annoyabilty. He is like a flea that the opponent wants to slap away; but he just buzzes around. We haven't had "that guy" for quite some time. I hope that he can keep it up. He certainly is, or is becoming a fan favorite.

  9. I think we'd have been happy to see that performance against Boston University let alone Boston College. But this convincing, 21-point win over the Kenpom #107 team doesn't feel like a fluke, particularly coming on the heals of the win over Florida State. I'm not saying we're a tournament team. At least not *that* tournament. But, I will say this team could be a lot better than I was expecting. Certainly better than I feared.

  10. That might have been the most fun game of the Hoiberg era. Hopefully more to come. It is going to ruin my HHC score but was nice to see a team play a complete game.

  15. There's also the aspect that soccer is still a rapidly growing sport here. Haven't even scratched the surface yet of what it could be in this country. And while I agree we are possibly in a golden era as well we may be able to sustain success. I'm 41. As a child I played football. I played at recess, played organized starting in 4th grade, and played through high school. I also played soccer in the city rec league from about 6y to 12y. I was a much better soccer player than football. After 12y there was no other options to play. I would have rather played soccer. My brother who is 2y younger than me got to play soccer his Senior year. It was the 1st year the high school offered it. I'm a parent now. I have a toddler 2y and one on the way. As soon as he could walk we started kickin a ball around. He runs around kickin a ball screaming "GOOOOOOOOAL!" On Saturdays we go to his soccer "practice" with a dozen other toddlers. Its a blast and the cutest thing ever. Pure. Chaos. I'll steer him and his brother away from football. I know a lot of parents like me. My wife was a college tennis player. I hope my boy finds a passion for one of those two sports. My point is we are still in the infancy of soccer in this country where kids are being brought up in the sport. Where as a place like Belgium it is established. The future for US Soccer is bright!

  16. I was trying to explain the significance of Belgium's failure to advance to my wife. They are the #2 ranked team in the world, so that alone makes the result shocking. But beyond that, this effectively closes the door on Belgium's golden generation and they were almost completely shut out on hardware. Zero finals appearances in the World Cup in '14, '18, and '22. Zero Euros and UEFA Nations Leagues finals. Other than their bronze medal in '18, this dream team was shut out of podium finishes for their entire decade-long run. Just incredible, but also heartbreaking for their fans. I can't imagine having only one sport you care about, and seeing a golden generation rise up completely against the odds and soar to #2 in the world. And then, for an entire decade, that team fails to provide results in tournaments. You could see the enormity of that failure written all over the players' faces after the match. Lukaku was absolutely balling his eyes out after the final whistle. And that is the component of international soccer that I don't think the average American fan understands. We get that a little bit with college football, particularly when a school has a once-in-a-lifetime run. But even then, there's optimism among the fanbase that the success can be sustained in future years. There's the hope that success will beget success, leading to better recruits and even higher heights reached. The World Cup is different, as when the window closes on a golden generation it closes for good. There is no hope of a quick rebound via recruiting or free agency. The highs and lows just mean more, and for that reason I can't look away. The World Cup is the best entertainment possible for a sports fan, and I wish the average American understood that.

  17. He's the worst ref that I have ever watched. I absolutely cannot stand him. He's been a pain in our ass since the Miles days. He makes egregiously wrong and strange calls every game. And he's also annoyingly by the book. Zero feel for the game or little nuances. Also used to have the dumbest haircut I'd ever seen, but he's corrected that, showing a semblance of self-awareness I was not sure he had.

  26. Josiah Dotzler looks like the only high-major kid in the 2023 class. The 2024 class is filled with really good high school players, but a lot of them lack the physical tools to be safe bets to translate to high-major college basketball. Treyson Anderson, a 6'9" stretch big at Lincoln Pius X, is the only player in the class who currently holds a D-I offer (South Dakota State). Jaden Jackson (Bellevue West), CJ Mitchell (Omaha Westside), Elijah Gaeth (Millard North), Will Cooper (Millard South), Marcus Glock (Wahoo) and Neal Mosser (Millard North) are all guys D-I schools are watching, but they all have a long way to go. In 2025, I wouldn't expect Nebraska to get involved with Chuck Love (for reasons you can probably guess). A'mare Bynum, a 6'7" forward from Omaha Bryan, is the guy to keep an eye on. He played for MOKAN with Chuck this past summer and is the son of former Iowa State hooper Omar Bynum. Long arms and can shoot it a bit.

  27. And American's don't realize that we are in the first of 3-4 world cups of probably our Golden Generation. 2026 and 2030 will be real fun.... or as we saw today... COULD be real fun or real rough.

  28. Canada— out. El Tri— out. Belgium— out. Morocco wins the group with Canada, Belgium, and Croatia. Anything can happen in a WC. As crappy as we have looked at times, we’ve done what we needed to do to advance and sometimes that’s all that matters.

  30. If you think back to what Derrick Walker looked like 2 years ago and compare that to what he looks like now, there's a lot of reason to be hopeful about what we end up getting out of Blaise Keita. And if you look at their stats, don't forget Walker was competing for playing time against Yvan back then, so ...

  32. Have to say on the rewatch that I enjoyed the announcing duo of Mark Adams and David Saltzman. A lot of times in a game where it's ESPNU you'll get a couple of guys that just show up but Adams in particular you could tell he really did his homework on both teams.

  35. Keisei had himself an “80/100 in practice” type of game.

  36. I think Keisei showed you play and you score when you move with purpose and cut. The ball movement and cutting improved as the game went on. Some was Boston College tiring, but I hope some of it was because they saw it led to buckets. Also helps when our shooting spreads out the defense. Wilcher and Keisei both hitting makes us pretty darn tough.

  42. That's like being pitcher and having two pop-ups where the fielders miscommunicate and let the ball drop. Those two runners score, and you get charged with 2 earned runs. Really, it wasn't your fault, but the box score shows it. Those fouls were plain bad calls, and were not Wilhelm's fault.

  43. Nobody's going to ruin this for me. I know it's FSU and BC. But I haven't felt our team gel like this since the end of last season, and prior to that....maybe since Miles. We can go 0-18 in conference play, but I'm going to ride this short wave as long as it'll last.
