Earlier this month Dartmouth men's basketball voted to unionize.  That's where this is headed.  It'll take a few years, but collective bargaining agreements and salary caps are definite possibilities. However, I think before that happens, the big boys pull out of the NCAA, make their own rules and life will be really interesting.

This failed for public schools. They are governed by state laws. It only applies for private institutions.

Not saying things could shift that way, but I think there's a whole lot of litigation and then labor votes well between now and then for that ever to happen.

Whether that is a competitive advantage for schools or not is a different story.

I am so in favor of giving everyone a 5th year. I might have mentioned that.

They could make it an easy rule to pass; if you graduate on time you get an extra year.

Of course, once we go down the road where the players are considered to be university employees, how long until somebody asks "why do we only have so many years of eligibility now in the first place?"

Which means no NCAA tournament, which means Nebraska only has a finite amount of time to win a game before it's replaced with something else.

True. Remember, the NCAA Tourney replaced the NIT as the decider of the National Championship. It's all moot as Nebraska has a Sweet 16 appearance in their 2025 future.

Probably a pipe dream, but I’d love to get a commitment from this kid.  I’m really high on his game.

He comes off the bench like a bat outta hell. Plays fast, shoots with CJ confidence and can put a lot of pressure on the defense. He’s long and decently athletic. His shooting splits this year shouldn’t be a worry. He’s got a pure stroke. Was a bad fit with a Rutgers team that wanted to muck it up and keep games in the 50s.  He’d flourish in a system like ours.

Just looking at some highlights of his, my god no one goes to Rutgers games.

Yeah, I would love to see how he could function in our system.

Think back a year ago to the 2023 portal.  There was a kid from Aurora who could have chosen to come back home.  Could have been a statewide hero.  Instead, he chose otherwise.  No one west of 42nd Street gives two squats about him.  It's so sad.  He could have been part of a celebration this state won't see until next year.  It will happen next year.  🙂

I would have loved for that kid from Aurora to have chosen Nebraska. He did become a third team All American so he didn’t do badly.

Yes, agreed. It worked out for B.S. #55 all right. I wished it had been all RED, but he went with BLUE in college. His (and my) H.S. even chanted "Go Big Red."
