I feel like a I’ve said this every year the past few years, but with college athletes basically being free agents every year, my interest level continues to wane. I’m all for athletes getting paid to their max potential, but the current system is just such a mess.9 points -

You're not alone. I've had conversations with fans of blue bloods like UNC, UCLA, etc. and they're losing interest as well. Spans beyond basketball as well. And I think one part of it is that fans latch onto some of the players who are consistent 3-4 year players for the team. If 90% of the roster changes every single year, the only common thread is the one on the front of the jersey. The number of times I've heard "I don't even know who's on the team anymore" is becoming far too common these days.7 points -
Need more big's and length. After the NCAA tourney it would seem evident we need more length, if we want to keep up. Vey few teams in the sweet 16 don't have a couple of long 4's and 5's. The B1G is going to see more of it soon as the west coast teams come to town. it just is what it is.6 points

I personally had no problem cheering my butt off for Brice Williams, Rienk Mast and Josiah Allick. Just about 12 months ago I had no idea who Brice Williams or Rienk Mast were. It didn't matter to me. If you choose to come play for Nebraska at any point, then welcome. So in that sense the roster turnover doesn't bother me too much. But I would say that this changing teams every year is ridiculous and needs to stop. Professional athletes are not even allowed to do that. You can't just have a great year and then declare yourself a free agent and go play for the highest bidder the following year. There are things called contracts in the real world, and the TEAM owns your rights to play. We need to fix this system because it is outrageous.6 points -

You literally cannot have that connection when teams roll over 50%+ of the roster year in and out. It’s what made college sports more watchable. I respect the players that hang around that would have options.4 points -

The mid major as new juco is very real. There isn’t a huge adjustment to be made if you were the man on a mm team and move to p5. 1. You’ve already played a ton of p5 schools, probably held your own, and now have a chip on your shoulder/confidence. 2. You’ve developed way more skills on the court as you were getting tons of minutes at D1 speed as opposed to spot minutes at the P5. 3. There’s a lot of good fundamentals taught at the mm level because they have to in order to stay competitive. More team guys. So when Bama imports them, they have culture and humility when they arrive. JUCOs have easily suffered the most from transfers/NIL. Lastly, we can complain all we want about the way things are now, but this system benefits Nebraska so much it’s hard to fathom. I don’t want anything to change. We can get dudes here now.3 points -

NIL was good in theory but was rolled out too quickly and with no real direction. That’s led to where we are today and it’s too tough to dial something like that back. So now it’ll be about adapting where we are to what probably needs to happen. Someone mentioned contracts and I think that’s a fair way to go with where we are at. Making players sign multi-year contracts and having a penalty for breaking that contract would be fair for all parties. You could still offer one year contracts if you wanted to, but could also off more lucrative multi-year deals to ensure you keep someone around.3 points -

Definitely a 2 guard. He can score at all 3 levels and is extremely crafty with small spaces. He actually reminds me of Keisei offensively. He does not have the quickness to play point. Defensively he’s not going to be able to stay with PGs, but I think he’ll do ok on the wing. He’s strong and is a willing rebounder. Also plays with a lot of fire and awareness so I’m guessing he’ll eat up the rotation info. But no. If we want another PG outside of Uhlis and maybe JL, we’ll definitely have to recruit one.3 points -

They actually outperformed their seeds. SDSU was a 5, shouldn't have made it to the SS. Utah State was an 8, won one game. Other seeds were 10, 10 , 11, 11 and lost first round.2 points -
Some of how the portal works this year: There is a 45 day period for entering the transfer portal which closes May 1st. An exception is that when a coach is fired there is a 30 day window for that team, regardless of the time. NIL collectives can directly communicate with transfers in accordance with state law. (Unsure about the laws in Nebraska). An issue in the past is that all of this was verbal contracts so you could either have NIL groups not doing what they promised or kids and their families could make up numbers.2 points

Word on the street is that two of them are staying-with or going-to Wisconsin. I've heard no street word on the third. So . . . we had the same discussion a year ago about Chucky. Who thinks there is even a remote chance of Chucky (or another Bellevue West grad) coming to Nebraska this second time around? As to the two in the portal, they are both excellent players, and we'd love to have them. But if they don't want to come here (or if they aren't our highest priorities), there are other excellent players available. Further, it's amazing to me that a Nebraska player would go to another B1G school, instead of wanting to be the next Sam Griesel or Josiah Allick--with all the love and notoriety they have achieved across the entire state and its loyal fans.2 points -

They need to simply make all scholarships/NIL agreements a two year deal for both the player and the school with the exception of your coach leaves/quits everything resets. 2 year agreements give both party’s some stability, doesn’t necessarily allow schools to throw crazy money at everyone and anyone because they have to pay it back to back years, and still gives the players a chance to move on halfway through their college careers if they want.1 point -

Alabama is in the Elite 8 with 5 of their top 6 scorers starting their careers at a mid-major school. Mid-majors are basically the new JUCO. Coaches should expect if they find/develop a diamond in the rough, they'll only have him for 2 years max.1 point -
Grant Nelson (Summit League) for Alabama, Baylor Scheierman (Summit League) and Dalton Knecht (Big Sky League) for Tennessee have been stars for their NCAA teams after transferring. I have to wonder whether they would have been able to develop their present skills as fully sitting on the bench for a couple of years at their present schools had they started there originally. It seems that the way to success in today's system is being able to spot the upcoming Mid and lower major talent early and harvesting them first. Are coaches able to approach this potential well of talent before they declare for the portal, i.e. poach them, or is it breaking some rule?1 point

A's fans in baseball have had to deal with this for years, and you've had a split in their fandom as a result. One chunk of the old fan base has a saying: "you root for the laundry"--meaning the name on the uniform is your true object of allegiance. The other half, of course, begs to differ, pointing out that "laundry doesn't break base stealing records, or hit 40 plus homers in a season, or or or....". I think what you're seeing is essentialyl the same dynamic that began years ago in so-called "small market" professional sports franchises. Likelywith the same result.1 point -
