  1. Since everybody seems to dislike Maddie Krull, I will say she is the reason we won this game. Check out the +/- if you don't believe me. Best defender on the team, quietly does the dirty work and gives us offense when she can. Good job Maddie.

  2. She's usually pretty good, but she needs to stop with the fadeaways. If she goes up strong, she will live at the FT line. Onward and upward. Alexis did have 14 points and 15 rebounds, so that's her 31st double-double. GBR

  3. Imagine the atmosphere at PBA when the Huskers come into the Northwestern game riding a three game win streak! Danny is in the building, so is the 93-94 team. I heard Henry T a week or two ago. There are former players coming back that haven't been here since their playing days. Don't remember many names, but Tyronn will be here.

  4. I hope not. I really like him as Michigan coach...I think he's doing a wonderful job!!! In fact I think they should extend his contract ASAP.

  6. Nebraska Cornhuskers (13-3) at Iowa Hawkeyes (9-6) Date: Friday Jan 12th, 2024 Time: 8:30 pm Arena: Carver Hawkeye Arena Broadcast: BTN Iowa Info Head Coach: Fran McCaffery Location: Iowa City, IA Conference: B1G Nickname: Hawks Coach's Nickname: White Magic Mascot: Herky the Hawk Line: Iowa by 4.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 10 KenPom rank: 53 Nota bene: Nebraska is 1-2 in true road games this season The last time Nebraska started the season at least 13-3 was 2010-11 Nebraska is 19-1 over the last 3 years when scoring over 80 points (only loss was 104-100 OT loss at NC State) Iowa has not been held under 80 at home Both coaches have sons playing in this game (Sam Hoiberg, Patrick McCaffery) KenPom most used lineups PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 11 Tony Perkins 6-4 205 Sr 20 Payton Sandfort 6-7 215 Jr 22 Patrick McCaffery 6-9 212 Sr 23 Ben Krikke 6-9 245 Sr 32 Owen Freeman 6-10 230 Fr 22.1 Player to watch: Ben Krikke The Valparaiso transfer has been huge for Iowa and he's picked up where he left off as the Missouri Valley conference's leading scorer as he currently leads Iowa at 16.7 per game. Krikke has high level mid-range touch and can draw enough contact inside to get to the FT line. His versatility allows him to slot at the 4 or the 5. He'll be linked with Rienk Mast as both guys played in the MVC and both were rumored to be targets by both Iowa and Nebraska out of the transfer portal. Rienk Mast is 5-1 all-times vs Krikke in head to head matchups. Player to watch: Payton Sandfort Iowa doesn't shoot a lot of 3s but Sandfort has already taken 100 while making 40 of them. Sandfort also leads the team in rebounds Player to watch: Tony Perkins Perkins is more combo guard that Iowa typically plays at point with most of his scoring coming in the paint. Unless you count Krikke, he's your main threat about driving into the lane. Others to watch Freshman Center Owen Freeman brings rim protection and rebounding along with a nice scoring touch; looks to be a 4 year starter for the Hawks. Patrick McCaffery missed last game with illness but should provide glue-guy support to go along with his iffy 3pt shot. 6'2" Soph Dosante Bowen and 6'0" Brock Harding bring depth at the PG position but their shooting is spotty. Soph Josh Dix at 6'5" is another glue guy. Rounding up the bench is 6'8" 250# frosh Ladji Dembele who has an outside shot, Younger Sandfort brother Pryce, and Belmont transfer Even Brauns. Brauns hasn't worked out and rarely plays. Iowa has a lot of piece but the guys at the end of the bench are young and erratic. While Nebraska has been basking in the glow of their big win over #1 Purdue, Iowa has had 6 days to prepare to defend their home court. While it's been a rebuilding year for the Hawkeyes, they score a ton at Carver and Nebraska will need to continue their torrid shooting to keep up. Given that the Hawks have been susceptible on the boards, Nebraska is going to have to pick their battles between hitting the offensive boards and trying to slow down the Hawkeye fast break. Defensively the Hawkeyes have shifted their focus towards guarding the 3pt line. Look for Nebraska to make some hay inside, especially when Freeman steps off the court. Offensively Iowa is likely to take it inside, which is the game Nebraska likes to defend. If Iowa does start taking more outside shots, do the Huskers have the legs and will to contest them? One thing you might have noticed about Nebraska this year is how anticlimactic Nebraska's games have been this season as the closest they played anyone either way has been a 7 point win over Michigan St. In a game where computers are and point spreads are picking narrow margins, can Nebraska pull out a win if the game is close? Maybe we'll find out tonight. Prediction: Iowa 81 - Nebraska 78 View full article

    Xavier Johnson isn't N

When I was a little punk, I was driving my bike through the big kids while they were trying to shoot hoops in my driveway. One of them got pissed and grabs the bar at the back of my bike ( connected to the back of my banana seat ) and jerks it backwards. My body and junk flied forward and rams into the gooseneck….wowsers, believe it or not…years later, got married and had children.

  11. Not pleased with our offense. If we hit threes it looks effective. We can drive them but cannot finish. Alexis needs to get on the low block and stay there. She isn’t being efficient anywhere else. We are in for a battle.

    ILLINOIS GAME DAY THREAD

I was at the game. There were enough people there to make a little more noise but apparently we were all in the frigid mood like our shooting. I did set a personal vertical leap from my seat when Coley missed her point blank nobody on me layup for the second game in a row. She did play pretty good defense when she was in there. Potts not fouling out was important. I think our defense is good enough to slow down Minnesota's hitting threes a little but we will need to really be on in hitting ours to win this game.

  16. Make the NET make sense pleaseeeee! San Francisco got a 5 point boost for beating the mighty San Diego by 20 last night. They went from 42 to 37 in the NET. They are also 0-3 in Q1 and 1-1 in Q2. St Mary’s got a 12 spot boost in the NET!!! 12!!! That’s the same boost I think we got for beating Purdue. Who did they beat? Portland. By 43. Obviously the NET favors how you beat someone more than who you beat. I know we had some gripes about our weakish non-con BUT the last two non-con games we kind of hurt ourselves by not hammering them into submission.

  19. IIRC, Eric Johnson played on Danny’s 2nd & 3rd teams. So he would have played with Henry T ( who was on Danny’s first two teams ) one year. Eric did not score 30 in his debut. That would have been the first 2 games of his Sr year. He would have played with Ray Richardson ( who Danny said had a Cadillac body with a VW engine->he was right on that ( smile )-> I loved Ray though ). Harvey Marshall was a Sr on Moe’s last team ( that made the tourney). Btw Handy, Handy Johnson was on the team that beat #1 Mizzou ( much talked about game the other night). Henry T ( Sr year) went off in the defeat of Danny and Miracles that year ( think he had 26). Beau hit the winning shot. And Vinnie Johnson was so fun to watch at the end of his career as the microwave on those Pistons teams. Think I’ve covered it all there in kind of a hodge podge of misc ( and I don’t even drink)….anybody catch anything factually untrue there ?

  21. Noticed from the stats we won the rebounding battle 45-29 which is pretty dominate. And we also only had 11 fouls. So it was getting the ball through the hoop was our biggest problem...34%. Most times you lose at poor shooting like that. Funky game where we just were out of sync a lot. A win is a win.... is a win

After a good start we struggled offensively as IU became more aggressive on D. This is not a game you want to lose in terms of the standings, esp. being at home, so hopefully we can execute better in the 2nd half and hit shots like we started out. Also need to continue to be aggressive on D. GBR!

  28. Texas was at 30 and didn't go because they didn't have enough wins/too many loses. There have been teams in the 70s who went. To me KenPom is more of a tool for predicting outcomes than it is for predicting tournament teams. It happens to be fairly good at predicting tournament teams given that the best teams tend to make the tournament. That's 3 more Q1 wins than we had in 2017-18 though both Michigan St and Kansas St could easily turn into Quad 2 wins

  29. He reminds me of Vinnie Johnson in that the bench turned out to be the miracle cure for his career. Some dudes just have that magic coming off the bench that they don'thave when they start. Johnson used to claim that it was his ability to see how a game unfolded and study the defense for a bit that allowed him to show up and light up an opponent in limited minutes. Maybe this is CJs thing, too? Edit: Btw, Vinnie's nickname was "The Microwave". Maybe CJ needs something in that vein for himself? The Human Heat Mitten? heh heh

  30. this team has some good wins and those matter to the committee. they only have one loss that's even arguably bad, and that's turning out to be less bad by the day. all you can ask is that a team controls its own destiny, and this team most certainly does. If they're good enough to go, they'll go. What they really need is to find a way to steal a couple on the road in the B1G. We can't blow any more Minnesotas.

  31. okay I knew CJ was having himself a solid year but holy crap I didn't know his shooting splits were 65/44/90!!!!! what the hell man if he keeps that up he is easily 6th man of the year (dont know if they even do that award in college but he deserves it so far!) and this is coming from a guy who really was not a CJ fan the past couple of years. dude deserves the most recognition out of anyone on this team

  33. It didn't last year and it doesn't now. Seems scoring margin accounts for too much value in the formula. The fix is to just keep winning.

  34. Call the Huskers ticket office, I *think* they'll be able to hook you up with handicap parking at the arena and also seats in an accessible area if you need. I knew someone who was able to get this done when he was recovering from knee replacement surgery.

  41. Better offense and our switching defense seems to be effective. Need more people being scoring threats. Jaz, Alexis and Natalie are doing most of the damage. We need to finish strong and not let this one get away.

  42. Yeah, I had already mentioned this notion on page one, it's also my understanding that CU couldn't play in Omaha but if NU were to be a top 4 seed-line they certainly would be available to do so. That'd be sweet to see, oh to dream! DREAM BIG!
