    Inevitable?

We're going to fire Fred for Christmas? I mean, come on. He's going to finish the season and we'll see if he wins enough games to make it interesting.

    Inevitable?

Absolutely. Frost getting fired was a completely different situation. Football was in a downward spiral with some decent talent on the team with the potential that the season could be salvaged under new leadership. Trev specifically said after he fired frost that part of the reason to do it so early was to give the team and players a chance this year. On the basketball side we have a under talented team that appears to be battling their butts off to get anything they can out of the year. Hitting reset and canning our coach doesn’t give the players a better shot to win, it probably gives them a much worse shot.

  3. We lost one of the best back line players in the country due to injury. Overcoming an injury such as that, late in the season, would make a final four run remarkable in my book. But that is solely my humble opinion that may, or may not be shared by others. Team continuity and chemistry can be fickle. I compare it to a simple chair. With all four legs it is strong and stable. Lose one of the legs and it becomes much less stable and unless it is is properly manipulated and stabilized, will fail. Cook and his staff are the best of the best. If anyone can find the stabilization, it is that bunch. But again, it would be a remarkable feat.

  5. Active in-state guys we wanted but didn't get out of HS: Jr. Max Murrell, 4.9/3.0 in 14 min/game So. Hunter Sallis, 5.1/2.9, 33% from 3 So. Chucky Hepburn, 9.7/3.7/2.8, 39% from 3 Fr. Jasen Green redshirting Fr. Isaac Traudt redshirting Active in-state guys we said "eff it" out of HS: Sr. Baylor Schierman, 12.0/9.3, 44% from 3 Sr. Sam Griesel, 10.9/5.1/4.4 Sr. John Tonje, 15.1/6.3, 38% from 3 Sr. Josia Allick, 9.5/8.0 in 29 min/game Jr. Charlie Easley, 9.0/2.9/1.3, 42% from 3 So. Frankie Fidler, 11.0/5.5 in 31 min/game Fr. Luke Jungers, 7.3/3.1, 31% from 3 Not sure where to list the Arops or Donovan Williams because we didn't really blow them off coming out of HS. I'm including Easley in this group, though, because he was a walk-on who is now a scholarship D1 player. And we didn't offer him. But, anyway, who's having more of an impact: The guys we whiffed on or the guys we spurned?

  7. Finally listening to parts of this. I'd agree. That wasn't as bad as some of you are making it out to be. I found him quite complimentary of the place. I would also, in theory, agree with him that he did his job as far as getting guys here. Two of Hoiberg's teams, if they were effectively managed from a leadership/culture/chemistry perspective, should have had their records flipped around. He also, according to everything I have read here and elsewhere, was just an absolutely terrible assistant coach from a leadership/chemistry/culture/basketball perspective. But nonetheless, that is a failure on FH, and FH alone, for letting stuff like that fester and for how long it did. I would have canned him a long time ago, recruits be damned, if he ever remotely disrespected my authority or undermined me. You absolutely, 100%, cannot have that on a coaching staff. There has to be harmony and cooperation.

Unless he does something really dumb no way will he be fired by Xmas. He is in a much different spot than Frost.

  20. Big one today boys. First time ever that the starting lineup has NO MLS players. I swear though… if we only see Gio for less than 20 minutes this entire WC, that’s cause for immediate termination.

    Walker's injury

Per his press conference, we can finally put this thread to bed. Looks like we’ll have to stick with “Health Reasons”

  32. Think you guys are twisting this Lloyd deal. Here is Ramel senior's stats To me senior is looking at Junior's situation through the lens of his own career and if you can take off your homer hat for a minute he isn't wrong. Seems as though the days of people yearning for guys to redshirt are over.

  35. It seems ludicrous to think that Alberts looks at these 3 games in the same way. He doesn't appear to be that short sighted. Perhaps if we are completely non-competitive then the narrative shifts but to think Fred has to make some noise against three top 10 teams seems like a bit of a stretch. Losing all three may be a part of any narrative of why he is fired at the end of the year (along with a lot of losses in the BIG as well) but I can't imagine losing these three games causes him to get the ax in season.

  40. A big question for me is— does Walker change the outcome of OU or St Johns? It’s a hard question with no solid answer. However, I believe that he could have. We’re now 1-1 with Walker. Wednesday is big! BC is probably better than FSU and is hovering around where we are in KenPom. The next three after BC are very likely losses, so it’ll be important to grab the BC game. After seeing us play FSU, I believe we could give lower level B1G teams enough fits to pull out some W’s. However we have no room for error as a team. Unfortunately, we don’t have the luxury to have an “off night” and pull out a W. Already mentioned in this thread, but Keisei has been a really nice piece to have off the bench. So many wrote him off last year, through the summer, and earlier this month. He’s this years version of Benny Parker, young Tai Webster, etc. Every year we have someone who takes a lot of criticism because of their faults and doesn’t get a lot of praise for their good. KT has his faults and areas of struggle. But he’s not “just a shooter” for us this year. He’s done a lot of good on the O end. He does lack a little on the D end, but like I said. Role players have faults. He’s not an all star, but he’s definitely earned his spot.

  41. The Volleyball team got a break with a 2 seed in the the Louisville regional so they chances are better for making it to Omaha. Was thinking we would get with Texas, or Wisconsin.

  42. Walker at Point Forward gives us added dimension on offense. He is a good passer and the ball moved. We scored points in the paint. Hard to believe s Leonard Hamilton team is struggling so much.

  43. Its a win over a P5 team. There won't be many more this season. Watching Walker run point was fun! We all know this teams deficiencies so no need to pile on. Let's enjoy the win

    We Rhule!

Trev handled this football coaching search like an absolute pro - negotiating to have College Game Day interview Rhule live minutes after they announced it is another genius move. As he did at UNO with hockey, when he finds the person he wants as the coach, he's relentless. I don't know if we'll ever get the whole story on how things went with Rhule over the past couple weeks, but I'd guess it wasn't nearly as smooth as we'll publicly be told it was. Yet, Trev ended up hiring the guy he wanted. If and when he does an NU basketball coaching search, it will be done in the same manner. It's just who Trev is. I don't know that he'll pull one of the top candidates for NU hoops like he did in football, but he also has / had a high success rate at UNO with hiring relatively unknown coaches / coaches from a lower level who've taken their UNO programs to higher levels than they were at previously. Considering the limited resources UNO has for everything outside hockey (and even for hockey when compared to the powerhouses), it's a pretty impressive hit rate.

  46. I listened to it. He dipped his toes into it when they talked about how great of a job he did recruiting and how bad he felt about not winning but then just started doubling down into blaming Nebraska fans for essentially being suckers for spending their money on a losing product in Nebraska. They don't get into him leaving the team and then not being retained. He is willing to meet up with you if you were mean to him on twitter. Otherwise he just talks in circles. He brings up how success is mostly about the guys you bring in about 15 minutes after talking about how great a job he did bringing in guys, stuff like this. In summary

  47. He plays center at Tulane. He's basically the same size as Derrick Walker. When you look at his numbers, he really looks like Derrick Walker. No room for a post player who could handle the ball, was a good passer, and you could put on the floor as a freshman because we needed to pick up guys like Elijah Wood and Keon Edwards. STAR CITY BABY!!!
