  2. Kudos to H_L for starting this thread (I'll even give you a 'green' arrow ) Why? Because it brings out all the 'Positives' surrounding the program from long-suffering fans. I understand your disappointment and frustration; The express ride we all hopped on last year has run into a stretch of rough track. Sure, I’m disappointed like everyone else, but deep down we all knew it wouldn’t be smooth sailing all the way, without a few bumps along the road. Last season the Team over-achieved, Big-Time! This year; Well, it seems more like water seeking its own level. We are building a program; and that takes time. Prospects for the future are Bright! So exactly why does your starting this thread make me feel better? Other boards I know of are full of negative criticisms; on the program, about the coaches, about the players, with suggestions like; basketball is the 'easiest sport to turn around,' or it's time to 'clean-house.' Any 'positives' are given short-shrift and quickly shunted aside if the team is not winning, As a basketball 'Noob' I'd quickly find myself in a deeper funk than the current Huskers' offense, if it weren't for Huskers Hoops Central and the perspectives of this forum. That's why I find I'm spending more and more time on this site, discussing the program and its prospects with avid, knowledgeable fans.

  3. If Morrow Jr. doesn't contribute right away, I'd be very surprised by that development. Rebounding & interior D are in MAJOR need of upgrade & Ed would provide those skills & a tough mind-set immediately. For what it's worth. I was talking with a Creighton coach the other day and he said Morrow will be a carbon copy of David Rivers. Now, this could be a Creighton coach talking just to talk, but I thought it was interesting. And this coach is a nice guy/individual, so I do not believe he was talking trash on some of our recruits. Rivers isn't a bad player, but I'm hoping Morrow is better than him. Other than a completely different skill set, personality, and eventual 30 lbs difference, gotta say he nailed it. I hope he was serious.

    The Petteway Factor

I posted on Facebook and will continue to believe that Terran Petteway might be one of my all-time favorite Huskers. I think that says something because my high school years were 1991-1994 when we made the tournament all four years. Petteway has changed the trajectory of this program and the expectations. For that, I'll always be thankful. As Miles said, "He bet on Nebraska when nobody else would."

  5. Guys, I know we see Terran on the court and from an outsiders perspective, that's all we have to go on, as far as judgement. As per usual, there's typically more to the story. I know this isn't an excuse for many, but it does shed a significant amount of light into his personal situation. Sometimes it's easy to forget that these guys are 18-22 year old young men dealing with life issues besides basketball. My 8 year old son attended a few Husker basketball camps in the past and he was lucky enough to have Terran as one of his "coaches". I can't say enough good things about how he was engaged and focused on those kids. It wasn't something that he did 50% or 60%. A few months passed, and my son attended the Husker buddies event. Terran and Shavon both recognized my son and took the time to ask him how he was doing in school and with basketball, really cool stuff that college kids don't have to do. Terran also took the time to work with my boy on a couple of dribble moves. In all of my conversations with Terran, he's been very courteous and respectful. I know we haven't always seen that in regards to some of the emotions out on the court, but he's an emotional guy. Thoughts and Prayers to him and his family.

  7. I feel bad for the fans... It sucks as a fan, but remember this is an escape for us. If it hurts us, imagine how the players and coaches feel. This is their life.

  9. This is going to come off as crazy talk, but I honestly don't think our offense is that bad. I think a LOT of it has to do with the fact that we simply can't shoot the ball. Go back and watch the film and watch to see how many WIDE open shots we miss. Guys are going to have to make some shots. Period. Hopefully White is as good as a shooter as they say and hopefully Watson is as good as they are making him out to be. Then we just have to hope Morrow can be that banger down low that can get us some points. I never wanna put too much stock into freshman as its just a different level in College, but hopefully he is a guy that can do some dirty work and get us some rebounds and junk points.

  10. Stuff happens. Bad hand was dealt to the team this year. There's a lot worse that can happen...um what's going on with Petteway's family comes to mind. That being said...I hope that there's a couple more fans like you...so maybe my dad and I can make the move to the lower section next year. Other than that I have not and will not give up on this team.

  11. The offense would have been okay yesterday, far from great but okay had we just freaking boxed out on the defensive end. We gave up 23 second chance points. We just aren't good enough offensively to give up that many extra chances. My only concern going forward is the lack of a big coming in.

  12. There are a number of people on this board who know far more about basketball than I from an X&O's or pure assessment of talent perspective. However, I do have an extremely strong grasp of organizational development, leadership, and other areas which translates alike between different areas of industry as well as sports. That being said, I like this team and trust Miles. It has been almost a few decades since Nebrasketball was anywhere near an offensive juggernaut. One does not simply come in, waive pixy dust over the players and suddenly have an offensive system. I remember announcers comparing Doc's offensive players making their way back and forth around the three point akin to wipers on a windshield. That was painful to watch. Miles' offense has been good enough to win but never dominant. Miles' offense is a blend of perimeter shooters and guys driving to the hoop. Last season, Rey was a legitimate commodity. On any given game he had the propensity to lite it up from beyond the 3pt line. While as a senior Rey did not really have an in conference blow up game, Rey's junior year was another story. Rey was a weapon simply being on the floor. Walter also gave teams fits with his perimeter scoring as well. As a result, driving lanes were opened up for Terran and Shavon. This season, Rey graduated, Walter tried more of a post game, Hawkins (who was supposed to add that shooting element) transferred, and Fuller has not fully physically developed. Despite improvement, Tai should not be viewed as a sniper like Rey. Tarin is only a freshman. So that leaves us with . . . whom? Further, despite attempts to develop Walter, Nebraska does not really have a post up game. That leaves Nebraska with a one dimensional offense. Teams can crowd up the middle and try to prevent fast break points. To blame Mollinari is too simplistic. The guy came in as a defensive specialist. Last I checked, Nebraska is playing good, maybe even great at times, defense. I would look further down the bench if you want to address the offense.

  13. Or better yet I hope it becomes... "He bet on Nebraska so that future players will."

    The Petteway Factor

FWIW, I don't think Miles was specifically talking about message boards nor talking about this one, which I doubt he reads. (others from the program do though). and don't recall a lot of specifically overboard criticism here. I have seen/heard a lot worse on other boards as well as social media or the radio. Not to pat ourselves on the back too much, but we're a little bit more committed than the "blame the coach/best player without digging deeper" crowd that hangs out elsewhere. Petteway gets talked about more than anyone because he's so polarizing though I don't think he takes significantly more grief than guys like Gallegos or whomever the lightning rod for any particular season has taken. TP's game has flaws and his personal life shouldn't stop us from discussing it. However, he should receive the same level of civility that should be afforded to all the students on our teams. There are always going to be positives and negatives coming out of a place like this. Overall I feel this site is a net positive on several levels towards our players and university. If I didn't feel that way, I wouldn't be here.

  16. I thought them shooting 20 more FTs than us was the biggest difference in the game and an explanation for our lack of offense. I know we're ridiculously awful at the 3pt line, but Purdue is a team that puts you on the line. AJ Hammons had zero fouls....the only time that has happened this year.

    The refs sucked

See, this is what really gets my engine going when (some) people on here say we shouldn't complain about refs. Where's the accountability for the refs? When they do stupid crap like that and make demonstrably bad calls, how are they held to account? They aren't. And if the league is going to publicly announce what punishment Pat Chambers is going to receive, why don't they publicly announce the punishment that ref is going to receive? Because otherwise, it makes it look like they are trying to protect bad officiating.

How we define the other team players. This is guy is a "no right guy" -- he'll score 80% of his points going right. Then we have four categories: a shooter, an driver, an athlete and a dork. Priceless....

  22. Hope these make you feel better. We have all probably had the feeling, but none of us will EVER give up. You cry and you scream and you stomp your feet and you shout. You say, 'You know what? I'm giving up, I don't care.' And then you go to bed and you wake up and it's a brand new day, and you pick yourself back up again. Nicole Scherzinger Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. Bracket Watch

Minnesota probably gets 18 wins np with wins over NW and Penn St at home With their overall body of work all they need to do is win 2 out of the other 3 vs Wisconsin (Home and Away) and Michigan St (Away). They seem like a team poised to defend their NIT title.

  26. I like it better than the BP that would never take it to the rim. Yeah, he's somewhat of an oddity for a guy his size in that he's not a particularly exceptional passer or ball handler. A lot of guys will use their speed advantage, and he has it, to draw contact and fouls. As good as BP is at making FTs, that's what he needs to improve on for next year.

  35. I can't believe the inability to understand and execute the principle of boxing out - and being in position to have visual access and then actually securing the ball on rebounds! I realize we don't have a lot of height - athletic length to match some teams - but the basic principles of the art of rebounding and the effort and aggressiveness (when you consider the steady defensive effort they consistently put forth) it seems they should be able to match others offensively and defensively on the boards. What a difference that would make!

  36. Had to watch this one late and used the fast forward too much to add much to the conversation. I was not terribly surprised by anything I saw though. I did think Walter played better instead of spending the game curled into a fetal ball by the pressure of living up to the Year of the Walter. I think now we are on the outer fringe of postseason play.

  41. Miles is unwilling to stray away from the lineup that got us to the tournament last year. There's no doubt Tarin smith is better than benny, and I don't see how fuller could be worse than rivers.
