There was a lot of gnashing of teeth when Gesell picked Iowa, but honestly, right now Benny is playing better than Gesell, and it's not really even close, IMO. Not saying I wouldn't take Gesell on this team, but who would have thought Benny vs Mike could be a debate?

Teran, Shields and Benny getting 4 fouls killed us. It was no coincidence that OSU was able to attack the rim after that. While, on the other end Craft and Scott were able to absolutely mug Shields and Teran which didn't allow us to get to the rim. The key moment was when Ross traveled and got Teran's 5th foul in a tie game with just under a minute to go. Nebraska gets the ball and they call a questionable travel on Shields. That ended the game.

Is it wrong to hope Craft would be slightly hobbled as karma for the Benny foul?

True dat. Nebraska forgot to play "winning" basketball after getting that big lead. It still sucks that it had to be like that out there on the court w/ the clutching, the grabbing, the holding. Hell, Benny Parker gets run up under by not other than Aaron Craft in the 1st half, and nothing. It's completely ridiculous that Matta got his but Miles didn't seem to early on! But, even w/ all that, NU didn't play well enough to hang on vs. the tougher Bucks today. Yep. Like it or not, we are still inexperienced and our immaturity shows sometimes. We are going to be prone to mental meltdowns like this against a veteran team like Ohio State. The good news is we are still competing with them (and for a time we were beating the snot out of them). So it's not like just go and take your lumps. Each of these games, win or lose, is a valuable learning experience for our young team.

Don't forget the way the season started. If someone had told me at the end of noncon that we would be sitting here waiting I would have taken it in a heartbeat. So I refuse to be disappointed if we do not get in this season

I think it was absolute trash today. And before anyone tells me "we shouldn't have blown an 18 point lead" and "officials aren't the reason we lost today", I know, and I disagree. Bigtime. The announcers eluded to the discrepancy or unfairness a couple times, being as subtle as possible, but were mostly stuck talking about how much Ohio State practices the press and face guarding. It all changed with OSUs press. That's when it got ugly. Yes, we were somewhat flawed in our approach I'm breaking the press for awhile. That's something we can control. But we can't control the amount of grabbing, pulling, pushing, reaching, and humping that the officials allow. This is when the calls became very one-sided. It was difficult for us to draw a foul at all while when OSU was on offense, Craft and company cashed in on a number of the classic duck your head and whistle plays. Most of these were totally undeserved. Yet, with the new rules that seem to come and go, who knows.

Really? Shatel has been such an a-hole about Nebraska Basketball for so long that I could care less what he has to say now. He can go kiss some more Creighton butt & keep ignoring us for all I care. But I am not bitter or anything

Miles needs to improve his press break coaching. It killed them when CSU made the tourney and we've struggled it against all year.

With Craft graduating, who on OSU is going to get the 30 extra fouls he gets a game?

Between thompson's showboating and craft's INTENTIONALLY taking out Benny's legs, osu is doing a great job of making me hate them. I've always been an anti-michigan guy, but I guess I can learn to despise both sides of the rivalry

I've been so busy with work and working on a new media venture that's its been a rough winter. I'll even say this. I've got to the point where I don't even watch the games anymore for fear I'll jinx our boys. The last game I really was Ohio State at home. I usually just try to follow along on my phone. All the Iowa hate this morning. Good...good...

I expect a tough, hard-nosed battle. Both teams will compete like crazy. Hope we get an even whistle, but I'll believe that when I see it. I am closing my office today at 1, and letting all the employees have a half day off, in honor of the Huskers. Go watch the game and bring good karma. They think I'm nuts, but they all are taking me up on it. At least the time off part.

Agree with this. Here's why: -Ohio St. makes their hay creating and capitalizing on turnovers. We generally do a pretty good job of avoiding this. -They aren't a great perimeter shooting team which should allow us to continue to pack the paint and force jump shots. -They aren't a great rebounding team (11th in B1G play in Rebounding Margin). -The Benny Factor: Craft leads the conference in assists, which obviously leads to a lot of their offense. I think Benny will keep him at bay.

One of the things that bugs me about college basketball is that there is no transparency or accountability for the officials. They can be horrible but no one in the game can ever call them out. Which means you're stuck with bad officials and there's no apparent incentive for an official to bring his "A" game when he refs. Can't think of his name but the guy who had to leave the game today has sucked forever. How he still has a job officiating games at this level is a mystery. I'm OK with rules that keep order. A coach shouldn't be publicly bad-mouthing an official after a game. And the officials need to maintain control during a game. But NOBODY wants to watch a foul fest and there were 40 freethrows shot in the 2nd half of this game. Officials should be evaluated anonymously by the coaches. And, every game, each coach should be able to give each official a rating from 0-10. And every 10 games an official works, those ratings should be made public. I say every 10 games so that an official can't try to deduce which coach might have given him a bad ranking. But they needed to be rated and the results of those ratings need to be published. And if an official is consistently at the bottom of the coaches' ratings, they need to be gotten rid of. Maybe something non-public like this exists. I don't know. But it needs to be public. There needs to be transparency and there most certainly needs to be accountability. And from what I can tell, right now there is none.

Then you have to let guys defend with a little contact....

We settled for too many jump shots and didn't make the officials make enough calls by driving to the basket. I thought that Ross clearly traveled on his "and one" late in the game. What can you do? It's over and time to prepare for our NCAA game.

Not being ready for the full-court press was unforgivable, especially considering our struggles against that this season. The no-call on Ross's travel after which he hit two free throws followed by the travel call on Shields was big.

I gotta say....no matter what...I'm proud of what our team has accomplished all season. As a long time Husker fan I can say this has been my all time favorite year...and look forward to a few more games before this season is officially over.

I'd be jealous of Northwestern if we didn't have Miles.

I don't see Iowa getting better next year...I think Fran is not a top quality coach and it really shows. Collins worked his ass of this game, willing his team every possession...and you see Iowa consistently guard shooters with hands below their wastes. If Collins coached Iowa this year, they would be a top 15 team right now....If Fran coached Northwestern, they might be winless in the big ten.

What is a Trey Dickerson? What is a twitter? Who cares about Iowa? Eat a ham.

My, how fortunes have changed since that fateful Dec. 31st meeting between Iowa & Nebraska.... Nebraska would be in the midst of a 5-gm losing streak, and Iowa was surging to start the new year. Look now, two-and-a-half months later, the Huskers have won 8 of 9 while the Hawkeyes have lost 6 of 7.

I don't see how they make it unless it's the play-in game. RPI 54. Absolute collapse down the stretch. Next to zero noteable wins. If Illinois wins tomorrow they'll have a better RPI and pretty much the same record... and illinois pretty much has to win the thing to be in.

We better not be seeded below Iowa in the tournament.

If we play like we are capable...we will be fine.
