There once was a point guard named Jack Moore who had a dismal freshman season.  It's probably unrealistic to expect the same kind of progress from year 1 to year 2 that Jack made in the late 70s.  But from the sound of Coach Miles tonight, he expects we will see a lot of improvement next year.  And why not?  I'm sure he had a lot of transition to digest moving from NZ ball.

This started like a limerick, so I read it like that the rest of the way. Maybe we could do a limerick challenge on this thread

Up vote for mentioning one of the all-time greats  :)

I think he comes out and plays one of his best games of the year.

I dont see it....I have to imagine his confidence is at an all time low.  This year I don't think he will be a factor on the offensive end in regards to scoring points.  His handles are currently subpar and his shot is broke.  He just needs to take care of the ball and play defense.

I'm sure we all knew there would be a steep learning curve for young Tai, but frankly he looks overwhelmed right now. I expected him to get better as the year went on and really be an asset by now, that's not happening. I think most of it is a between the ears issue. Let's hope he gets salty for the stretch run.

Let's face it, he's been a total bust.  Lots of people unfairly built him up to be some super star.  He doesn't shoot well.  He's not really a good ball handler.  Even when he drives to the basket he loses the ball or misses most of his layups half the time.  Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of options at his position and he will continue to start the rest of the year.  I'm not sure why anyone would think he's going to make a huge leap. I guess we can all hope he really improves.  Hopefully Miles will find a good guard that can give us some reliable scoring and ball handling.

Im sure Red Raider and Gator fans said the same about Petteway and Pitchford after their freshman seasons.

We don't need any of our point guards to be elite because Petteway handles the ball half the time anyways. The problem is that neither Tai or Benny can knock down a 3. Tai and Benny are kind of useless on the court right now because they can't shoot. I don't see us consistently winning games until we have a point guard that can knock down a couple 3s. We might be better off with hawkins on the court in crunch time, and let petteway bring the ball up.

I would love it if Tai could get his 3 point stroke going, but this post is a pretty one-dimensional look at what a point guard does.  it also ignores MIles' comments about Benny's contributions in the Northwestern game.

I wouldn't get too high on parker. He had one decent game against northwestern. Still averaging 1.6 pts a game and has not made a 3 pointer this year. He plays solid on ball defense, but he's only 5'8 which still makes him somewhat limited defensively. And neither Tai or Benny are dishing out assists along with not being able to shoot.

Assuming we are playing zone on defesne, I think Hawkins could potentially be our best option over Tai and Benny. Having another guard on the floor that can shoot the 3 would make us almost unguardable on offense. Hawkins seems to be gaining a lot of confidence over the last few games.
