  1. Amy's substitution pattern has never changed since she got to NU. Around the 5 minute mark of the first quarter she always subs at least 3 players no matter what. She'll get another 3-4 nonstarters in the first half. I've always felt you play your top 8 almost entirely till the game is settled one way or the other.
  2. I totally agree with Redhac. If NU is ever going to be among the top dogs in this league (and get ranked in the top 25), Williams needs to go out and get a quality big that has post moves around the basket and has some height. We don't have to have posts that shoot 3's (of course if they can it's a bonus.) We do have plenty of guards for the next few years.
  3. Other than an occasional 3 pointer I'd rather she move on. She doesn't have any inside game other than a fall away jump shot. Her defense has never been good. I'd rather use her scholarship and try and get a better post player. Her playing time is not going to increase with Petrie getting most of the sub minutes.
  4. It's about time Wiliams has figured out that Nissley needs to start. That kid can shoot. Nissley played 20 minutes and scores 12 in the first half. Moriarity get 20 minutes and Krull gets 12 minutes and combine for 0 points. Others teams know to not worry about those 2 as far as scoring goes. All and all the team did what they were supposed to do, beat a bad team convincingly . Hope they keep it up.
  5. I was wondering if Coach Williams ever considered watching game film with her team on how OSU puts on a full court press? She had to know OSU was going to press her team. That was the most embarrassing attempt at trying to just get the ball over half court that I've ever witnessed. It was like a varsity team pressing the 7th graders. That's what I've always loved about her teams. One game they look like a top 25 team and the next game they look like the 320th team. There's never been much consistency with her teams at NU. Oh well, on to the next game and hope we look like a top 25 team.
  6. My only question is "Do they ever practice what to do when someone full court presses"? I'm surprised teams don't press us the entire game. I'm disappointed the bad passes Shelly makes when were being pressed.
  7. Sorry but I really lost the trust in the coaching staff when they couldn't see Leighla Brown should of been playing a LOT more in her freshman and sophomore years. They basically ran her off. If she was on our team her junior and senior years we would of won a lot more games IMHO. I know she rubbed some people on this board wrong and maybe some teammates, but that kid was a very good all around basketball player.
  8. The +/- boxscore statistics shows me that using that statistic is useless. Krull and Moriarty are basically useless on offense. With them on the floor we are playing 3 against 5.
  9. Coach Williams need to contact whoever controls the purse strings for a NIL deal and buy a big time post player who can score and defend. It would be a shame to waste getting a player like Prince and not have a big time post player. You have to have both a super guard and post. You can probably get by with average players filling the other positions. We need some rich person who loves N U women's basketball and wants to take it to the next level. Unfortunately I love women's bb but am not a rich guy.
  10. Huskerfanzz sees Nissley consistently getting beat on defense. Doesn't think she is fast enough. I've watched all the games and all our guards are constantly getting beat. They are all slow. Each the opposing guards constantly drive to the basket for mostly uncontested layups. So I would like to see a lot more of Nissley because at least she can score some points.
  11. I totally agree with HUD on Nissley starting. That kid is a shooter. Brings instant offense. Krull just isn't a scorer. She should be coming off the bench.
  12. Coley is playing as much as she is because we don't have many other options. IMO I don't see any of our players as being great defensive players. Average at best. A few below average. Colely is a decent 3 pt. shooter when all she has to do is catch and shoot. She never dribbles and creates her shot. I can't remember her ever driving to the basket for a layup. With all the hype about her when she joined the team, I was expecting a lot more that has never materialized. I know the old saying "scoring wins games but defense wins championships". At Nebraska I'd be happy at just winning lots of games.
  13. The Nissley gal needs to on the floor a lot more than Krull or Moriarity. Krull and Moriarity rarely give you any points. You don't have to worry about guarding them. As a matter of fact, every time Krull or Moriarity dribble the ball I'm saying to myself "a turnover is coming, please give it to someone before you lose it." On the other hand,, Nissley is a real threat to make 3's. They better guard her closely.
  14. It was nice to not see our relief pitchers walk and hit batters and throw wild pitches with runners on base. I kept waiting for bad things to happen and we'd lose.
  15. A lot of things bother me with Amy's coaching. I'll just comment on a couple. In all the years Amy has been at Nebraska her teams always have a tough time breaking a full court press. I'm surprised every team doesn't press us the whole game. We always look like we've never seen a press before. The other team usually gets several steals and easy baskets, like tonight. Also we have the worst out of bounds plays. Her inbounds plays seem to always take too long to get someone open just to get the ball in. We usually lose the ball 2 or more times a game. It's time for a change but I doubt it will happen this year.
  16. The first quarter we played man to man defense as usual. And as usual, the other teams guards were quick enough to drive to the basket and get easy buckets. All season this has bugged me. The second quarter we played a zone defense and pretty much stopped their guards from getting easy buckets. Made them take harder shots away from the basket. I was glad coach Williams continued to play the zone the rest of the game. I wish in future games they would start out using the zone defense until it isn't effective because we just don't play good man to man most of the time. I was happy to see Markowski starting to have some good post moves towards the basket instead of fall away shots. Bourne has some really good post moves. Now if we could only get Steward and Mendelson to learn them.
  17. In all my 60 years of following NU BB, it seems like every time we beat really good teams, we follow up losing to a really bad team that we should beat. I hope we don't follow this pattern against Minnesota.
  18. I have to say I was excited for this season to start. We had a pretty good season last year and had pretty much all the significant players coming back. Unfortunately this season is probably ending in a dud. As for next year we are losing Haiby and probably Shelly and Bourne. So unless Coach Williams finds 2-3 very very good portal players, I'm expecting another down season and maybe worse than this years. I know there are a couple of freshman coming in but it's unrealistic to expect them to be impact players immediately if ever. I guess we'll need some big time NIL money to get some good ones.
  19. As I've said before, I wonder if Coach William and her staff even teach defense. Every game we see the same thing. Opposing teams just drive down the lane and get easy layup after layup. We leave shooters wide open. We basically have the same team as last year and we are so much worse. That shouldn't happen. Not using all your scholarships or getting some good transfers in was a killer for us. I don't see with Williams that we will ever be higher than a middle of the pack team. I told my wife before the game that we would probably lose this game\. I've pretty much lost hope in this team. I won't go to the Iowa game but will watch on tv. I want to say that as valuable that Markowski and Haiby are to the team, I've never seen two players that miss as many bunnies or layups as they do. I know they are trying hard but if they made half of these shots we'd have won a lot more games.
  20. I guess I disagree with you on Brown's development. I don't know why she wouldn't have gotten better each year. To this day, it still pisses me off that Coach Williams basically pushed the kid out of the program. In her freshman year you could see she was a very talented player. She could get a good shot anytime she wanted. She should have started sometime during her freshman year and definitely her sophomore year. She was far far superior to our other starting guards. I'll never understand our coaches thinking.
  21. We are lucky to be only 5 at the half. We are playing our usual game of dumb passes for turnovers. I wish Shelly and Haiby would stop dribbling under the basket and throwing lousy passes that either go out of bounds or get picked off. They have done it all year. We seem to struggle to get uncontested shots off. Doesn't seem like we have much of an offense. I wish Coach Williams would not recruit post players that don't have good post moves. Seems like every team we play does. We seem to always have posts that want to shoot fall away shots near the basket. Bourne is the only one who has some good moves for easy layups. If a girl doesn't have the drop step moves going right or left in high school, they seem to never be able to learn it in college. Mendelson has been a big disappointment. She just can't finish under the basket. Hopefully we hit our 3's and they can't buy a basket in the 2nd half.
  22. In order for us to win we pretty much have to have our "A" going for 4 quarters. Good teams can usually get by with their "B" games against lesser opponents. We can't. Our bench is pretty weak. This is a result of poor recruiting. Not too bag on Maddie Krull, but for a transfer, she is not an impact player. Coach Williams really needs to go get a couple of impact players for next year and beyond. If she doesn't, we'll always be in the lower half of the league.
  23. This was a super embarrassing performance by the girls and the coaches. I don't remember seeing a game like this where almost all of Illinois points (other than 5 three's and freethrows) were layups. They just dribbled right down the lane and had layups or post up layups. Do the coaches not teach defense? Since Illinois wasn't hitting their 3's and were getting all layups, I would think the coach mlght think about going to some kind of zone?? The one thing I can't blame the coaches on is our inability to make point blank layups. This season has been so disappointing and I don't see it improving.
  24. Unfortunately this team just doesn't play smart basketball. I have to think they must play this way in practice. Apparently the coaches can't teach them to play smart.
