Is Hoiberg the coach of this team next year?

Maybe a little?  But not as improved as us.

Now will they be more focused and expect us to give them a good game?  Most likely.  They aren't having much trouble with Illinois tonight, so they won't be expending a bunch of energy in that one.  So while we're better, we'll also likely have to play better to pull that one on Tuesday out.  Can we do it though?  Of course!

I think I tweeted something like if Purdue beats Illinois tonight, we're kind of a potential let-down game on Tuesday night. "Heck, it's just Nebraska."

Last year, the old version of us took that basically same "number 1 Team in the Nation" to OT after we picked off a pass in regulation that would have given us possession with an opportunity to make the last shot and win in regulation ... except we got called for a tacky-tack foul instead and gave Purdue possession of the ball again.

I firmly believe our team *then* was not as good as our team *now.* Is Purdue any better?

I've been waiting for the right time for this video.  Thanks, Norm!

I haven’t watched Purdue play enough to know if they’re “Better” but I DO know that simply by playing together, gaining experience, confidence & resolve we’re going to be harder & harder to beat as the season unfolds.

I just want to get the the point where Hoiberg isn't coaching for his job on a year by year basis. Not sure if anything short of an NCAA berth or tournament would do that

I disagree here. With what he will have returning I think it would be hard for Trev to make a move. You have to take into account that our team will have a majority coming back for another year. It won’t be a rebuild year unless trev should fire Fred then who knows what happens

I am 100% with you @Ron Mexico.  He does get a tiny bit of grace due to COVID right in the middle of the rebuild, but those first two years were bad.  Like, embarrassingly bad.

It must be said though that the culture flip that has occurred over the last half of last season and the first half of this season should be enough in my eyes to earn a bit more grace.  I don't think one can quantify what needs to happen this season (NIT, NCAA, etc.) for him to be retained.  It's gonna be more of an eye test and vibe thing going in to the offseason that will ultimately determine his fate.  I really hope he does enough for us to look forward to his return next season.

If he somehow manages a top 4 Big Ten finish and say, get that elusive NCAA Tourney win, then we're gonna be REAL nervous going into the offseason because I think he'll have plenty of suitors willing to make him some pretty attractive offers.  So, I say, let the man cook and stick behind him as best we can and let the season shake out as it will.

The culture flip is absolutely what gives him grace in my eyes. I've previously stated that last year is what I expected in year one from him.

FWIW, when they talk about professional opportunities in volleyball, those opportunities are continuing to grow.

There are two leagues that are starting up next year. Two teams in Omaha (two different leagues).

Since volleyball is a topic we can talk about in this thread, how about football?  Frank Solich has made it into the College Football Hall of Fame. That is awesome! Long deserved. Hopefully, that exorcises the demon that has been on the football programs' back for over 20 years.  I'm sure Danny's return in a few days will do the same thing for basketball.  GBR!

One of the reasons FH is doubted is the use of timeouts. Last night in our win over Purdue one of the reasons we won was that he called a timeout at the right time. Fairly early in the 2nd half, while the wheels of our wagon were wobbling, Coach Hoiberg called a TO and got things set right. So Kudos to our coach for this win as well!
