I'm not a charter member of this board, but I'm damn close. There are people I've met here who I consider very good friends. Whether it's lunch, or get togethers before Husker games, just know I cherish the time I've spent with all of you. One of my favorites is someone I've never met in person. His name is Tom Plotts. When he started posting, it was all left leaning. Of course, my posts are right leaning. Guess what? We gave each other shit and laughed about it. It's too long ago so it can't be found, but Norm joked about how Husker basketball could bring left and right together. He was right. I sure miss Norm's posts.... I want to thank everyone who contributed to tcp's cause last year. It truly touched his heart! I've pm'd Tom a couple times in the last few months. He always responds immediately. No reply. I assumed the worst, so, I reached out to the man I knew who could get an answer, HB, and he came through with an impeccable source. Tom Plotts passed away on 5-28-24. For the last several years, Tom and I talked on a regular basis. He was so proud of the work he was doing for veterans in front of the Oklahoma legislature. When he got the chance to go to DC, which you all were part of, he was so happy. I wish we could have won a game in the tourney last year. Oh well. Husker basketball and music brought Tom and me together. Music is a bond... That's why I do the video thing. RIP, mon frere!

Tom was funny because he'd make posts with typos in them not because of his typing but because he had a key on his keyboard that didn't work. He didn't want anyone to send him a new one though. He was one of the many guys from the old board that Dave started. Sorry he never got to see that first tourney win like he'd wanted.

  3. I have a lot more respect for the Creighton fans who hate all the Husker teams than I do for the Creighton fans who wear Husker football shirts on Saturdays.

  4. I've always had a ton of affinity for Coach McDermott and the way they operate their basketball program (cheating allegations aside). What has always irked me is their fans, their students, and many of their players. F Creighton. Bunch of pricks. We might also get beat by 30 tonight. We'll see I suppose. GO SKERS.

    It's Creighton Week

Hate Creighton. Only one favorite team this week because my two favorite basketball teams are the Huskers and whoever is playing Creighton. I have a friend who is a Creighton fan and of course a Husker Football fan. He is always posting how much Nebraska Basketball sucks and then how much Nebraska fans think about Creighton all the time but he's the one posting about us, at least when he is not posting about supporting Nebraska Football. The thing is he didn't even grow up in Nebraska, he did go to Creighton so I get his support for the team but then why be a Jaysker especially now he could pick a better football team. Go Big Red! Beat Creighton!

  6. Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-1) vs #14 Creighton Bluejays (4-0) Date: Friday Nov 22, 2024 Time: 7:00 pm Arena: CHI Health Center Broadcast: FS1 Creighton Info Head Coach: Greg McDermott Location: Omaha, NE Conference: Big East Nickname: Blue Jays Mascot: Billy Blue Jay Last time out: Defeated Kansas City Opening Line: Creighton by 10.5 Nota bene: The rivalry has its own Wikipedia site The road team has won the last 3 games, the first time this has occurred in the rivalry Fred Hoiberg will face all active former Iowa St coaches this season: McDermott at Creighton and Steve Prohm at Murray St Steven Ashworth and Rollie Worster were freshmen on the same 2020-21 Utah St. team coached by Craig Smith Player to watch: Ryan Kaulkbrenner The Big East Pre-Season POTY isn't normally the main scoring threat for the Jays but in his 5th season the Creighton big man put up 49 in a game vs UTRGV team that refused to double-team him. Nebraska will make him the focal point and throw double teams at him whenever he touches the ball. While Kaulk hasn't scored over 13 against Nebraska in his career, his defense and rebounding have played a part in limiting Nebraska's offense and thus chance to win over the years Player to watch: Steven Ashworth The sharpshooting PG is really stroking it this season for a Creighton team that overall has struggled to hit from outside. Ashwoth is currently hitting a ridiculous 13-29 (44.8%) from 3 to start the season while the team is shooting 31.5%. Player to watch: Pop Isaacs The 6'2" combo guard shot 37.8% from 3 as a freshman and cratered at 29.3% when tasked as Texas Tech's goto scorer last season. He's a savvy player but his shot selection can be questionable at times. Others to watch Jamiya Neal - The big guard transfer from Arizona St will likely be tasked with trying to slow down Brice Williams. He's proven to be a valuable glue guy for the Jays but does not have a reliable outside shot Jackson McAndrew/Isaac Traudt/Jason Green/Mason Miller - These are all candidates for minutes at the 4 or even 3 for the Jays. The 6'10" McAndrew is their highest rated recruit in program history struggling to find his shot. Traudt is good when he gets to spot up for a 3 and can mix it up on defense. Miller arguably might be the best scorer right now but he's banged up. Jason Green hasn't taken off yet, might be banged up. The Jays with throw these guys against the wall to see what sticks tonight. Fredrick King The backup center is not Kaulkbrenner but given how little foul trouble Ryan K gets into King typically just plays to gvie him a breather UNL Game Notes Roster/infirmary report Possible starters for Nebraska 3 Guard Brice Williams 6-7 214 lbs Senior 4 Forward Juwan Gary 6-6 226 lbs Senior 24 Guard Rollie Worster 6-5 210 lbs Senior 34 Center Braxton Meah 7-1 264 lbs Senior 9 Forward Berke Büyüktuncel 6-10 244 lbs Sophomore Bench 0 Guard Connor Essegian 6-4 190 lbs Junior 2 Guard Ahron Ulis 6-3 190 lbs Senior 5 Forward Braden Frager 6-7 220 lbs Freshman 8 Guard Jeffrey Grace III 6-3 200 lbs Junior 12 Guard Gavin Griffiths 6-7 193 lbs Sophomore 20 Forward Justin Bolis 6-8 225 lbs Sophomore 25 Guard Nick Janowski 6-4 208 lbs Freshman 31 Guard Cale Jacobsen 6-4 195 lbs Sophomore 1 Guard Sam Hoiberg 6-0 185 lbs Junior 23 Forward Andrew Morgan 6-10 242 lbs Senior 35 Forward Henry Burt 6-7 222 lbs Sophomore Out for year 51 Forward Rienk Mast 6-10 260 lbs Senior Fred Hoiberg Presser Fred used the word "Jaysker" so I'd say he's invested in this as a rivalry game The Skinny: Two years ago Nebraska did what no one expected and dominated a game in Omaha. Creighton would go on to make the Elite 8. Last season the Jays took Nebraska to the woodshed in Lincoln. The Huskers would go on to make the tourney for the first time in a decade. The point is that while this game is very important for post season hopes and if extremely important as a fan, it's not necessarily going to dictate how the rest of the season will go. To that point both teams are trying to work out the kinks in tonight's rivalry game, ready or not. While Ryan Kaulkbrenner is firing on all cylinders, most of the Creighton shooters are not from 3 as shots from outside are currently falling at a Ryan Hawkins era level. The Jays have been augmenting their offense with transition points and Nebraska will likely punt on offensive rebounds tonight in order to make the Jays play in the half court. Nebraska's 3pt defense can be a slump buster for 3pt shooting teams but the Huskers likely take their chances. Braxton Meah has been more miss than hit this season so we'll see how he fares in this type of matchup where you'd hope height will help further neutralize Big Kaulk. How much is Nebraska's length in the passing lanes going to bother the Jays tonight? On the other side, Nebraska's 3pt shooting makes the Jays look like 2017 Golden State. While the Jays love to take away the 3 and roll out Kaulk in drop coverage, you have to wonder if they plan to pack the paint tonight against this Nebraska team that is hellbent on making it to the rim and getting to the line. Creighton doesn't really foul but you'll be surprised sometimes at the variance of a game where the unexpected happens. Things could get really ugly if Rollie Worster and Juwan Gary start hucking up 3s that the Jays will give them. I feel like Brice is going to be the focus of the Jays' defense. Who else will step up tonight. There's certainly a path for Nebraska to win this thing with some stifling defense and a breakthrough shooting night. Knock on wood but one thing Nebraska has yet to do this season is give up a 10 point run. Think Nebraska hangs tough but not sure if it's enough. Prediction: Creighton 75 - Nebraska 68 View full article

  8. I think Kent has called 35 of these games, not the 41 as stated here. We've played Creighton 50 times since 1977. Warren Swain and Randy Lee called 11 of them from 1996 to 2005. From 1989 to 1992 Larry Moehlenbrink stepped in to call basketball games for KFAB as Kent was busy with station duties. It's possible that Kent called the 4 Creighton-Nebraska games during that time so it's possible he's called between 35 and 39.

  9. I really don’t hate Creighton. A significant portion of their fan base does annoy me though. My neighbors are perfect examples. Big NU football fans who are also big time Creighton fans. Thats cool, but they will always trash NU hoops. They don’t know anything about basketball but think they do. Love hopping in their luxury car and driving downtown every home game. They always try to talk to me about basketball. Good people, but with their basketball vapidity, I just don’t have the energy Creighton cares about basketball and it’s their bread and butter. They’ve had a good AD who has been able to build the model through Altman and Mac. Hope Nebraska shows up and plays hard Friday.

  11. I’m going to have to disagree. First, they represent a quad 1 win opportunity. So that’s not like any other game on the schedule. Second, this game is Creighton’s red circle on the calendar game, and has been since the mid 90’s. And nebraska trying to downplay the rivalry and say it’s just another game is one reason why we get our butts kicked often. I guarantee you that Sam Griesel didn’t view it as no different than any other. And third, I’ve lived in Omaha my entire life as a diehard Husker hoops fan. I loathe the Jays. I loathe the sweater-vest and 3/4 zip wearing, snobby cu fans who make snide remarks the next day in the office. I’ve been putting up with it for over two decades as an adult. I hate that they developed into a relevant and nationally ranked program while their fans also cheer for 9 win seasons and bowl game appearances. I dislike that they built their program with a mixture of clean cut Korvers, Kalkbrenner, Dane Watts, and Grant Gibbs types countered by the P’Allen’s, Cavel Witters, Rodney Buford’s, and Mo’ Watson ilk. I loathe CU. I dislike Jayskers. I find them beyond annoying. I respect coach Mac as a coach but will never ever be a part of his plantation. Sorry to vent. I’m ready for Friday now. GBR!!!!

    Stretch Big Podcast

Great episode today. Jon Walker is too likable for someone covering the blue team from Omaha. How much do you think Fred bringing up the Jaysker situation has to do with the new reality of NIL? He pry sees that certain people are writing a check to 1890 for football, then taking their basketball check down I-80 a bit. Gives the affluent fans a bit more salient power besides just grabbing a different 3/4 zip from the closet.

    The Injury

I noticed The projected Starting lineup For this afternoon Is the same as somebody suggested in the north Alabama Discussion.4 guards and markowski. I hope our guards can keep them off the the3 point line Because their MO lately has been creighton will hit 7 out of 8 three pointers in the 1st quarter while Nebraska will hit 1 out of 7 and we're way behind after the 1st quarter needing to slowly try to catch up for 3 quarters.

    The Injury

I've noticed a number of issues with the painted area on the new court in both the men's and women's games. It seems like players' feet are getting "stuck" at an abnormally high rate in the lane causing issues like turned ankles. However this is the first serious injury I'm aware of. Something to monitor.

One of my favorite things is seeing the regular avatars and screen names pop up around here each year. Knowing that despite all the craziness our lives each have, we all shared this one thing in common. We all kept coming back year after year. Some years we get our shins kicked, some years our nuts kicked, but we all endure together and are able to chat about it right here year after year. TCP was no different. I hope he rests in peace. I hope he rests in peace and puts in a good word with the big guy up stairs for Husker Basketball.

I’ve never understood the “brotherly love” between Husker fans and CU fans who say “I cheer for the other team outside of the once a year meeting” blah blah blah. CU fans can kick rocks and I wish they’d lose every single game they play. It’s a rivalry. We don’t have to wish them well outside of our game.

  39. I’ve been getting incessant texts from my Jaysker coworkers all day today. One sent a short video clip of Coach Hoiberg today calling out Jayskers and said “maybe if nebraska wasn’t so terrible at basketball there wouldn’t be Jayskers” Which means they only want to cheer on the bandwagon. I’ve been through seven levels of 2000-2024 nebrasketball hell folks. I’ve driven from Omaha to Lincoln hundreds of times and driven home dejected by crapping games away. I’ve seen 6500 at the Bob for years and watched us as we toiled under Collier and Doc - when Tim gave us a glimpse of what could be but couldn’t sustain. Never once did I say “it’d be easier for me to just cheer for Creighton because they win” but apparently some fans do…

Creighton could very well come out and make 12 more threes than we do and run us out of the gym like last year and most games vs them in the last 25 years. But they aren’t nearly as good this year without Scheierman and Alexander. Their backcourt is not very impressive. Pop Isaacs isn’t a typical Mac guard. He’s erratic, has poor shot selection and is terribly inefficient. Has been his whole career. Neal is not very skilled and can’t shoot. Ashworth can shoot the crap out of the ball, but his ball handling and lack of quickness gets exposed against bigger, more athletic guards. And that’s pretty much it for their backcourt right now. Not much depth there. If Creighton makes <10 threes and you can somewhat keep Kalkbrenner off the offensive glass, you can beat them.

Meah/Berke/Morgan have a lot Fouls to Burn on Kalkbrenner, but I think the cumulative affect of them plus a Juan Gary leaning hard on him throughout the Game should get us to the Winner’s Circle.

It's different it's just a little off because we're playing so early in the season. We're playing in Hawaii this season. The last time we did that the Creighton SID trolled us at 3am because he was hate watching our game. The one time we won at the CHI Center was because we had a guy on the team who cared about beating those guys. Let's beat these jags!
