Couple nights before New Years when all through the Vault No one could tell me some of the bad stuff wasn't Matt A's fault. Sure be nice if we'd get a 3-pointer from Keisel. Foul on Wilhelm? Aw c'mon, CJ, get out and guard whosit. Another Husker run and I swear Fran will lose it. As dry leaves before the wild hurricane ... OMG ARE YOU GUYS TRYING TO LOSE THIS GAME? Quit forcing those stupid passes and WAIT THAT WAS NOT A BLOCK! TAKE CARE OF THE BALL, GUYS, AND RUN SOME DAMN CLOCK!!! OH GOD THAT IS NOT THE SHOT I WANT TO SEE GARY ... Oh it went in? Still a stupid shot. Hey Ref! Either they were BOTH charges, or neither of them were, for f**k's sakes. Nice rebounding. See what a difference good rebounding makes? By the end of this game, I'll be 20 years older. We've gone cold but somehow Iowa's colder. It'll be next year before we do this again But it feels like we snuck away with a 16-point win. And as I get to my car and turn on the ignition Freddy Claus was on with Kent for the post-game submission. And I heard him exclaim before I drove out of sight Happy New Years to all and F**k Iowa. Fellas, I'm beginning to think Freddy Claus might be real. Anyone else?

It pleases me when one McCaffery has an off night. All three though. GLORIOUS.

We are ahead of iowa in the standings. the board work done by Wilhelm and Gary in the 2nd half was unreal. Those 2 took over a minute off of the clock with the O rebs that they got in 1 strecth.

Appreciation post for Ernie Zeigler. I watch the bench pretty intently during games. One of the main things that triggered me most the last three years was the apparent lack of in-game accountability and instruction over the little things. If a player did something ridiculous that you never saw other teams' players do (which happened a lot), they'd either stay in the game or be subbed out and go sulk on the bench. Sometimes Matt would console them, but I don't think much coaching was going on there. Doc didn't seem to care much. Loenser is great for player development and energy. I don't really blame Hoiberg for this. I want him to keep being the offensive coordinator and overall calming presence. They obviously talked about the little things in the film room, but I like that accountability and coaching to occur in the moment. It sure does with Tom Izzo and Bill Self. They'll replace a 5-star with a 3-star in a heartbeat if the buy-in isn't there. Coach Zeigler gets on Keisei, CJ, Wilhelm, etc as soon as they come to the bench. They seem to respond to him and don't hang their head. I do believe this translates to them being more crisp/sharper on the court. He seems to be a "how you do anything is how you do everything" type of coach. That's how I was coached growing up, so I really appreciate it when I see it. All the players and coaches deserve credit for the vast and quick culture improvement, but the jobs Zeigler and Howard are doing in such a short amount of time has amazed me.

This is just a scrappy, fun to watch, basketball team.

I have said this before - but it is amazing how much different this team is from what we had to watch the last couple of years. Just a completely different level of effort. So much fun to watch ! If we can find a way to keep getting this level of effort from the role players - and mix in high talent players who we can then get to play with them and have that effort lever rub off. I actually think if Bryce McGowen had played with Bandoumel and Gary they would have made him play hard just by example.

This team really gets after their asses. Hmmm. I think I just came up with a great idea for a team slogan.

That was a lot of fun tonight. Nebraska manhandled Iowa for a full 40 minutes. Now, if NU had been able to produce offensively the entire time with that stifling defense, the final score is likely more like 78-45. But, I'm not greedy, 66-50 still felt real, real good after prior years of heartless efforts by Hoi-ball. Adam Howard's a genius as Nebraska's defensive coordinator and the team's moxie is a thing of beauty at that end of the court, particularly Bandoumel badgering the opposing team's PG. He is a junkyard dog, and I love it!

I’ve seen enough to confidently say that we’ll play meaningful basketball into February and possibly March. That was unexpected a month ago.

A most satisfactory end to the basketball year. Now on to 2023.

Everyone might laugh at me, but this team very much reminds me of the 1986 team after Hoppen went down. They have no true big man, and they play with true attitude. Defense and team ball. Gotta feeling...

I remember this NU team. Glad to see the K-State game appears to be a blip. Very impressive.

Indiana losing to Michigan State is another ominous sign of how difficult the B1G is this season. We need role players to become headliners.

Agree. He has a knack of yelling while getting into the peripheral vision of the shooter (Sam). He did this on more than one occasion. Some would call this boorish behavior. Some would call it poor sportsmanship. Some would call it a brilliant coaching move. I personally call him a d*ckhead!

One more thing - not sure who went out and found Bandoumel and Gary in the portal, but wow. These two are perfect fits for this style of play. A lot of P5 teams wouldn't go after those two because they're a bit undersized and because they aren't great on offense. They aren't NBA players. But they are perfect for this team. Their tenacity sets the tone. What Gary does at his size on the glass ... just wow. And Bandoumel never tires, despite giving max effort all the time. Two guys that opposing fans love to hate. Nice to have a couple guys like that on our team. Whoever found those two had a vision for what the team should look like. Recruiting guys from the portal with a plan in mind is a refreshing change.

The whole bench gave them good minutes last night, but I was really impressed with Denim. That's more like what I thought he'd bring to the table this season. Seemed like he was trying to do things outside his current skill set and what the team currently needs for a handful of games before the break (and before his "benching"). Nice to see him get back to playing the hits after the Xmas break. Not sure if he's responding to the "benching" and/or he did some soul searching over the break, but a really nice effort from him. Kind of showcases the chemistry and team-first mentality these guys have.

Yeah, not many Iowa fans. It was a bunch of Nebraska people who decided that they wanted to see a basketball game at 6pm during the holidays. Had a group of Iowa fans leave with 8 minutes to go. Seeing the odds weren't in their favor at that point.

Starting to get some 2008-09 mighty mites vibes from this group except this team rolls out more guys and everyone is taller

Creighton: check. Iowa: check. Who's next on the most hated list? Wisconsin? Michigan? Ohio State? These guys are fun to watch. The effort tonight was off the charts. Pretty much out hustled Iowegia the entire game. Liked the balanced scoring. So nice to not have to watch hero-ball on 75% of the possessions. The officials made some real head-scratching calls. They evened out over the full 40 minutes, but, as usual, most of them got NU big guys in foul trouble. Nice job by Oleg to give a few meaningful minutes. Robraca's a pretty good ball player, but man, what a crybaby.

As long as CMU didn't run up the score or whatever happened. I would hate for CMU to do what Michigan has done to others and upset Howard. For all of the awesome coaches and minds we have in the B1G... we sure do have our fair share of unlikeable coaches.

The St. John's loss, Oklahoma, and Memphis you can maybe explain away as not having DW. I would say had we beat Purdue and been 9-5 right now, we were firmly on the bubble. The PU loss stings, the IU loss is explainable being a road game. We also looked like dog doo doo against KSU on a neutral floor. This team is completely different with DW on the floor and in the starting lineup. The confidence of the entire team has revolved around DW. It's amazing really. However, I don't think we're on any radars just yet. We're still a "tough out in Lincoln" team on a lot of radars. Not a true bubble contender yet. Want to be on the bubble? Win @ MSU and @Minny and then come and talk to me. That's not too tall of a task this year and a right side of the bubble team needs to take advantage of those two games.

Since we're updating on teams not on our schedule, let me just add that North Texas is 10-3, kenpom #57, and they beat UNO by 30.

Head coach Fran McCaffery was critical of his team’s shooting effort in the loss, but he also gave credit where it was due to the Huskers’ defense. McCaffery said Iowa learned what the rest of the Big Ten would likely find out soon enough – this Nebraska team is nothing like what the league had seen the past three seasons. “It’s a completely different team,” McCaffery said of NU. “These guys, they’re playing like a team; they’re playing for each other. Like I said, nobody is going for themselves. They’re playing for each other, and I think it’s obvious. “When you see that many guys in double figures, there’s no selfishness there that I see – first of all, here (tonight), but I’m talking about the tape I’ve watched, too. I’ve watched pretty much all their games.” Can't believe I'm going to agree with him...but this is so true.

Yeah, I just read comments from the Iowa press and team...not much credit given to us. Rather Iowa simply missed open looks, didn't attack, Yada Yada. They are a bunch of dip-s**ts.

Too little too late or not, Nebraska is a very well coached, smart, tough B1G team. That’s the highest scoring offense in the conference. We held them to 50. 50. And the last 10 were garbage buckets. Unreal defense.

Breidenbach earns a lot of his fouls, but man do a bunch of bad calls go against him.

Wow. I was going to complement these refs until they miss the most obvious travel that makes NBA refs cringe that it wasn't called. The bogus block call on Wilhelm. Them allowing Iowa to reach the last 5 minutes.

This Iowa teams hustle and and body language says we’re done. We beat them physically and now we’re in their head. Great win today. also wilhelm starting to show where he can be productive, he’s learning and growing. Still a bull in a china shop though lol.
