I certainly criticized his shot selection before the start of the season and didn't want to see him playing that many minutes if it didn't change. It changed. He's a 30+ minute player when he's locked into the game. There will probably always be WTF moments in his decision making when he's letting his brain trick him into doing dumb stuff instead of just playing, but I think we can live with that. You really could play the guy at the point with Parker and Watson on the bench for a "big" lineup for stretches.

  4. I'd prefer a Derrick Chandler or a Kamani Ffriend in the post as a defensive stalwart.. You are right talent wise, & JUCO status Aurora, I was just wishing some homegrown talent would pop-up and save our bacon...

In fairness, I did look these over fairly well after the Iowa game (which seemed to help Tai as much as anyone!). In 2014-15: [Nick was at 38% but he didn't have enough attempts!] Tarin was at 33% Terran was at 31% Benny & Walter were at 29% but Parker slightly ahead of Pitch And, last but not least, stats for this season: AW-III is at 42% Benny & Tai are 39% but Parker just barely tops Webster Shavon at 31% Glynn at 29% May I ask why you completely left off Jack McVeigh who is 2% behind Webster and Parker at 37% I think Jack was on the list but he saw a squirrel and ran off to chase it up a tree.

  6. You also have to understand that naturally Maryland will be at a recruiting advantage to most everyone in the Big 10. Due to geographical location, recent history, fan support, coaches pedigree, facilities- Maryland will probably always will be able to get a top rated recruiting class year in and year out.

  7. The class next year will be good. It fits more the mold of what Yori wants in players -- aggressive to the rim, tough-minded, athletic, play-through-adversity types. This team is the result of three recruiting classes that haven't panned out in terms of depth. Of the 2012 class, Nebraska has 1 starter (Theriot), and 1 player who transferred. Of the 2013 class, Nebraska has 1 top reserve (Havers), and one player who transferred. Of the 2014 class - top ten, incidentally - Nebraska has 1 starter (Romeo), two players who have transferred and one intermittent reserve (Kalenta). The 2013 and 2014 classes each have a player who takes up the end of the bench. The 2012 class had four regular starters -- two of them four-year starters - by the end of their senior years. The most I predict the 2012, 2013 and 2014 classes will ever produce is three - Theriot, Romeo and Havers, which is fewer than the number of players who transferred from those classes (4). The 2015 class is better, and so is the 2016 class.

  8. Yeah, kinda that. Yeah. Interesting. So just to get this straight, then you are telling me that humans are hard wired to recognize patterns and link them together? I mean, it's one of the brain's primary functions, and it's necessary to our survival and it's something that is of great benefit to us as a species? It's helped us to evolve into the highly advanced thinking machines that we are today?? But, it is also this very pattern recognition that can lead us to come to false (or at best misleading) conclusions very often, and it is also a fundamental tenet of what we call superstition? That it's why people insist on wearing their "lucky t-shirt" or to jam their fists into the crack between sofa cushions to watch basketball games because they believe that since something happened in the past, the only way it'll happen in the future is if that condition (or pattern) is met every time? Even though we know rationally that there is absolutely no reason that any of that shit matters? Is this the thing you're telling me, Norm??? That's also why we see pictures of Jesus in a slice of toast,ect... our brains work very hard to find either a pattern or a picture in everything we see. Kind of cool huh? Yep, it's also why the ancients developed the constellations in the night sky. It was an attempt to make sense of the seeming randomness of the stars and galaxies and develop a greater understanding of what it all meant. Of course Orion is just an absolute random collection of stars and our perspective on them, but to us it was a mythical creature, it looked like something so it meant something. But to go back to the Miles/Smith thing for a bit, that argument is a classic example of the "after this, therefore because of this" logical fallacy. We see what we want to see because it fits an agenda, if for no other reason to explain an uncomfortable reality that we want to deny or explain away. It's someone else's fault and here's a reason why. Doesn't mean it's wrong, and it doesn't mean it's right. It just isn't appropriate. Logically speaking, anyway.

  9. Our man defense just isn't equipped to play man defense. We are always out of position, leaving way to many wide open shots for Maryland. Like all the subbing to keep people fresh, but maybe all the subbing is hurting our players keep track of just who they're supposed to guard ?....because they aren't. Maryland isn't running a complicated offense. We're working harder for rebounds. Still need to block out a lot more. Thoughtless turnovers. Our offense actually looks better, more movement. Just can't make shots. 27% in first half. We seem to be in panic mode when we shoot. (Maryland's defense?)

I truly feel he played like crap in the game against Iowa, and obviously everyone will disagree with me because of his stat line. His decision making was absolutely horrible in that game and drove me absolutely crazy! It kind of is similar to how I disagree with so many people about AI. His stat sheet was fantastic, his play hurts the team Definitely disagree. Not sure what you were seeing. I think the offense we run functions best when Tai is the one making the action happen off the dribble. He's is probably the difference maker for the rest of the year for this team, one way or another...

  15. He hit the corner three's, he has a sweet step back mid-game, he has a strong looking frame (he doesn't "look" 6'3"), he has hops and he has good form. However, does he play sweet defense?
    1 point
  16. That may be great but our lack of offensive rebounds and high amount of turn overs against good opponents really limit our number of shots. Couple that with less then a stellar amount of free throw attempts and percentage made you better be playing great defense to be in the game.

    WBB: Game #14 @ Maryland

Connie's teams have nearly always been tough minded in the past. She's refused to put players in games until they proved they could defend. I realize we don't have many good defenders now, but she needs to keep the standards high. As for recruiting, we need to get more pure shooters.Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk They have one of the best shooters in the nation in the next class, and found her in part because she played for some mediocre team outside of Wichita. She's better than people appreciate. Again - it's a good recruiting class.

  18. Playing good teams on the road with a young team contributes to our fragile mental state. We'll know more when we play our next home game against Ill. I watched them play Minnesota tonight and they were really bad. We lose that one and the season might just as well be over. Couldn't believe the pathetic fan turn out at Ill.

Due to geographical location, recent history, fan support, coaches pedigree, facilities- Maryland will probably always will be able to get a top rated recruiting class year in and year out. Maryland is a big team....their subs were all 6' +. Very good recruiting classes in the last few years. Get in the Top 10 every year and the recruits come calling. I also thought they did not look as thuggy as past years, more like polished ball players.I think we are just hurt. Both physically with the nicks and bumps that are usually later in the year. That nagging crap that makes it so you can't get to a loose ball or jump as high. It looks like their legs and feet are shot. I also think right now we are completely beat up mentally. I know we just came off of a "long " break but we look like we have been playing non stop for about two months. We have also played some of the better teams of late and in college now a days if you get somebody down you crush the, so some times the score gets out of hand. I mean didn't the really good player from Minn. play the whole game tonight in a 40 point blow out? Maybe the summer trip wasn't a good idea?

  22. I'll stop you right there. We have some growing pains this season but this Freshman class is going to be very good you just have to give it time. We have another group of guards coming in next year too that will provide depth and might have a future star amongst them. The future is bright in my opinion so I don't buy your statement.
    1 point
  23. The future is not bright for NU Women's BB. Maryland is bringing in a top rated class and we were clearly outclassed at every position tonight. Some observations: (1) Maryland's quickness overwhelmed our weak defense (2) Jess S. has a lot of work to do to compete with elite competition (3) That is not the Rachel Theriot of old playing (4) I liked Maddie Simon, showed some ability and her size is nice to have (5) Blackburn needs to get back in the starting lineup (6) Washington might have some potential. Connie may have to evaluate recruiting if we are to compete at a high level in the B1G...we have to get more athletic and more quickness. Tonight's game should make fans appreciate how tough Cady, Sample and company were the past few years.

  24. I like MIles and hate when almost anyone that does anything has people saying, "Fire them," but I haven't like the offense run here with or without Smith. If anything I think the offense is better now than it was in 2013-14, at least in terms of its execution. There were very few assists that year. This year people are getting a lot more open shots, just not hitting them enough, and of course there is still the ever constant problem of scoring droughts, which frankly goes back to the Sadler days at least. Agree, would like to see more to our offense than what it is. I'd like to see us force the action more inside than we do now.

  28. Iowa was definitely winnable. We caught NW after they just lost to Penn St (I think) ...they were out for blood. They probably played a little over their heads. We're playing Maryland after they lost to Ohio St...similar timing Back to Maryland...our defense, or lack there of...is a big problem. Not just in this game. Our defensive plan needs re-assessing. Maryland's defense is better than it first appears. They cover all the floor. And don't let guards get open for 3s...we do. Offensively they simply find the open man. And most all can shoot. In some ways we looked better.....too bad we were playing a Top 10 team
    1 point
  29. I told my daughter at halftime I'd like to see Romeo, Simon, and Cincore on the floor together. They seem to be more aggressive. And Anya and RB43 are scrapping. I'd leave that group out there a while and see how they do.

  30. OK, we'll see. I think he'd have been good, but I don't think he's exactly, exactly, exactly what we were looking for. He's a 4, not a 5. And that might have something to do with why he went to Clemson instead. What we need is a big dude who can post up with his back to the basket and defend the post. I don't think this was that guy. He still might have been better (or even a lot better) than our other 4s, but it would leave us still in need of a post. That's all I'm saying. Not trying to rationalize or engage in sour grape talk. Just didn't think he quite fit the need. You put your finger on one of our problems in recruiting. There's been guys who would have been a better option at the 4 than anybody we've got, and a better option at the 5, but look at our roster and see that they will exclusively be a 5 here. And that's not something they want to do.

  38. I don't know what you are asking there, huskerbaseball13. Where was it mentioned that I was giving anyone a pass on anything, or giving anyone total credit for anything? Point is, you can't just claim that the absence/presence of Smith (or Molinari for that matter) is the sole reason or blame for what's been going on here over the last season and a half. Fact of the matter is, the team caught lightning in a bottle for that real nice 6 week run in 2014, but outside of that we've been a pretty steady bottom-third of the B1G team for the entire Miles tenure so far. That includes the time when Smith was here and when he wasn't. What HAS happened in the year and 9 months since Smith went to USD is we have signed 3 transfers from hoops blue blood programs and an additional 3 top 100 caliber guys out of high school, to assemble what could be argued to be one of the most talented rosters we've had ever. It is for that fact alone that I believe that I will be happy to let Miles have the chance to get these guys all in and developed. But right now? It is not time to start unloading on the staff. Not IMO, anyway.

  39. Yeah that Craig Smith hot take is another one that annoys the crap outta me. People remember that the end of his tenure at NU coincided with the hot streak to finish off the 2014 season. He parlayed that into a D1 head coaching job, which, good for him. That's what he's supposed to do. But let's not forget he was also around for the 5-13 league campaign in 2013 and the 9-9 (1-5) start to the next season. Are we supposed to just give him a total pass for that season and a half because he was around for the 10-2 run to finish that season? Come on, man.
    1 point
  40. Let's not kid ourselves. We have an open scholarship, we need post players, this kid was a top 50 recruit and our staff obviously wanted him. Do we need to have our heads explode when a kid doesn't pick us? No. But can we rationalize that this isn't that big a loss? I can't.
    1 point
  41. I have no clue who this golfer clown is, but I am starting to agree that I question if Miles can coach well enough or has enough coaching sense to get this done without Smith, who does have good coaching sense. There are more and more things that are negative about Miles that keep on coming. Something about him needs to be an unexpected positive very soon for me to continue to be on board.

Welcome aboard, khoock. Let me give you your first green up-arrow. I think you need to add Jeriah Horne to the mix at the 4. He's perhaps a bit shorter, but he's stout and he can shoot. Roby may be more of a 3 rather than a possible back-up 4 for next year. Otherwise, I agree with what you say.
