Wilcher

So proud of this dude. Stuck it out and now is showing out. Question for the board historians. Wilcher has 50+/40+/90+ shooting % splits. Has that ever been done in Nebraska Basketball history? Keisei was close last year.

Brian Conklin did it his senior year. But only attempted 22 free throws.

CJ's showing his maturity in that he recognizes literally what everyone else does: he's a far better player off the bench and that, in turn, only lends itself to more leadership credibility. win win all around, and this young man is smart enough to recognize it.

I think by the end of this season, if it goes well, many of us are going to look back at his removal from the starting rotation as on eof the major contributors to the team's success.

Huge CJ fan. I love him sticking around. This kind of consistency in todays NCAA is immeasurable.

He also has figured out his game, what he can do, and what he can’t do. He puts himself in much better situations that he has before. His lateral quickness really isn’t awful…. His vertical quickness is. As long as he plays his game he will continue to be an awesome contributor

Which actually makes that more difficult in the sense that Conk had "only" 2 misses all season. That's tough to do. BC was a baller in an era when the 3-ball wasn't top priority. If NU had him now, his role would be very, very interesting.

I think he's gotta be up for consideration for the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year. Wilcher has transformed his shot mechanics, and Hoiberg runs certain actions that highlight his shot. It's a thing of beauty to see CJ ball out. Gives me even more hope for J Law next year, because it's been shown that a dude will improve under Fred. Same thing happened for D Walk. I love it.

CJ is the poster child for working for what you want and making the most of your role.  Too many times guys take the easy route and transfer if they lose a starting spot or their PT diminishes.

Not CJ and I gotta say… it’s a breath of fresh air.  B1G 6th man is definitely there for the taking.

Conk wasn't in the 50-40-90 club.  He was in the rare 40-50-90 club as he managed to only shoot in the 40s from 2 but in the 50s from 3.

The 01-02 team in a Hoiberg offense would've been beautiful. Conklin and Cochran were two of the best three point shooters in the country. Jake was a really solid point guard, had one of the best freshman years in Husker history, and had the respect of coaches around the Big 12. Turek was solid in the post. Robinson and Clemmons could both provide a spark on offense at times. Will never forget the game against #1 Kansas in Devaney that year. It was a thing of beauty. Until we lost.

We're splitting hairs here but the 50-40-90 club is guys who shot 50% FG (not 2FG), 40% 3FG and 90% FT. At least that's the NBA criteria for the club.

He may not be officially listed in the club, but that would be because of lack of volume.

Oh you're right I forgot that it was total percentage.

Per the NCAA you need to average 25 min per game and 10 ppg, which Wilcher isn't hitting currently as well.

Yes, I remember it well, NU had 18 made threes, but KU sunk the final out to barely pull it out. Ughh.

So, Conk would barely not be officially in the Club. He had only averaged 20.8 mpg, but that '03-04 team only had 2 dudes who barely averaged 25 mpg. Too bad.

I watched it with a bunch of Kansas fans. They couldn't believe how skilled we were. Raved about our 6'4" freshman point guard. And Cochran was shooting it from the logo long before Steph Curry and Keisei Tominaga.

I was at the game. It was brutal to see that last shot go in. Reminds of Svi M. knocking down a deep ball to barely beat NU in Dec. 2017. That NU team could've used that win. We did also watch the Husker volleyball team win a natty that same night while still seated at PBA, since the events were essentially back-to-back as far as time. That VB wasn't live, it was in KC.

I have been an outspoken critic of Wilcher. He has been much more consistent and seems to keep his head better and not get down as easily. Kudos to CJ!

I don't think you are the only one.  Many people were down on CJ but he proved everyone wrong.  I like people like you Husker4theSpurs who are willing to be critical (which is fair) but also provided praise when appropriate.  It's easy to always fault or be negative but never come back and provide praise to same person when it's deserved.  Most people (including myself) can fall in the trap.  Great job CJ.  You deserve some high praise this year as this team would not be where it's at without you.
