Chuck Taylor Posted February 17, 2020 Report Posted February 17, 2020 He's 67, probably isn't going to take a rebuild at this point. Either a top job or join ESBN's stable of experts. Quote

Handy Johnson Posted February 17, 2020 Report Posted February 17, 2020 I never understood this hire either, that Cleveland job minus LeBron is about like coaching the Knicks without the “glitz”... Husker4theSpurs 1 Quote

Cazzie22 Posted February 17, 2020 Report Posted February 17, 2020 Coaches seem to coach until they die anymore. No reason he can’t take a college job. Quote

Husker4theSpurs Posted February 17, 2020 Report Posted February 17, 2020 Just seemed like a strange choice on his part (and Cleveland's I suppose). Probably saw the end coming and figured he'd give it a shot? It felt to me like he was a person who wouldn't enjoy coaching pros so much, but whatever ... Quote
AuroranHusker Posted February 17, 2020 Report Posted February 17, 2020 Beilein could coach whenever he wants to, next. He just didn't fit in Cleveland, at this time. I'd imagine he'll be back coaching again next year. I like how J.B. coaches, generally speaking. Red Don 1 Quote

One thing maybe in Texas' favor there is Beilein's former assistant Luke Yaklich is on Shaka's staff currently. Might make for a reasonably easy transition. Quote
demone Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 Further proof that there is no panacea in coaching, be it college or pro. You have to cater to giant immature egos when recruiting or cater to giant immature egos who make more money than you in the pros. I like Beilein and thought he was an exceptional coach at Michigan. Will always hold that opinion of him. atskooc, rr52 and Husker4theSpurs 1 2 Quote
49r Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 John Beilein was 10-22 (5-13) in his first year at Michigan. Finished KenPom #137. He had losses to #280 Harvard, #178 Central Michigan in non-con and #191 Northwestern, #146 Iowa and #130 Penn State in the Big Ten. Man, the Big Ten was pretty awful that year... His second year they went 19-12 (9-9) and made the tournament as a 10 seed. My point? I guess I don't really have one other than to say his first year at Michigan resembles our season this year pretty well I guess. I'm just looking for reasons to have hope for next year. rr52 1 Quote
