Over on Bluejay Underground (I looked so you don't have to), they're talking like Ashford should be back relatively soon. He's not on crutches, not in a boot, and someone reported he didn't not appear to be limping (while in street clothes) during their most recent practice. Which is small consolation to them because their next 4 games include 3 ranked teams and UNLV, which has a Kenpom ranking in the top 100.2 points -

Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-1) vs South Dakota Coyotes (6-2) Date: Wednesday Nov 27, 2024 Time: 5:30 pm Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN South Dakota Info Head Coach: Eric Peterson Location: Vermillion, SD Conference: Summit Nickname: Coyotes Mascots: Charlie Rotation Depth: 9 Last time out: Defeated Randall University (non-D1) Opening Line: Nebraska by 19.5 Nota bene: Of all the D1 Dakota schools, South Dakota is the closest to Lincoln and the one Nebraska has played the most (SD - 39, SDSU - 13, ND - 6, NDSU - 2) Coyote coach Eric Peterson is from the Craig Smith coaching tree having coached under Smith at South Dakota, Utah State, and Utah. Peterson was around for the first two years of Worster's college career under Smith. Former Husker Brandon Ubel is an assistant for the Coyotes, following Peterson from Smith's staff where he was a grad assistant. Fred Hoiberg won 24 games in his first two seasons with 2 of those wins vs South Dakota. The Coyotes haven't beaten Nebraska since 1942. South Dakota has had a busy November having already played 8 games coming into today's matchup Former Lincoln SW grad Mayuom Buom and Omaha Skutt grad Jake Brack are on the roster for the Coyotes Player to watch: Kaleb Stewart The Senior combo guard shot 41.1% from 3 last year. While he's sputtered to start the season, he does have a 4-10 3pt shooting night against Iowa and tends to keep firing if he's hot on a given night. Player to watch: Cameron Fens Fens is the one post player that South Dakota has that is an offensive threat. The Coyotes have 4 guys over 6'6" and they're all traditional big men type who won't take 3s. The Coyotes are comfortable taking a lot of 3s and while their shooting numbers aren't great this season, they have guys for it. Defensively, they're going to pressure the ball full court and pound the offensive glass to generate some free points. South Dakota plays a lot of minutes from their bench so fatigue isn't a factor for this team. I'd expect both teams to let it rip in this one. If Nebraska can get to a point where they clear the bench, do we see Janowski, Frager, or Bolis? Haven't gotten official word from HCFH but sure looks like they're redshirting to me. Prediction: Nebraska 93 - South Dakota 72 View full article1 point -

Markowski is getting a lot more attention this year. We still are working through the process of getting her the ball in good spots and she also needs to make quicker decisions since she is drawing 2 and sometimes 3 players sagging in on her. I feel like it will come. Best cure is she passes to a guard who makes them pay with a made three.1 point -

Hake is a streaky player. When she is on it can be pretty good. Her defense is better. Overall this is her best start to a season. With Potts out we need someone to step up. It may need to come from the guards because so far neither Petrie or Hargrove have shown to be able to lessen the loss of Potts to this point. Hopefully both will get better as the season goes along.1 point -

Tonight was a sloppy game. Agree lucky to come out with no injuries. I have seen other players wear a similar brace, referencing Rimdal. Wonder if it can provide heat and/or a massage? We have sometime to get players healed up with minor aliments before our next game.1 point -

Gavin seems like he is playing not to make a mistake so he doesn't get pulled right away. He is playing tight instead of not worrying about making a mistake. I think if he has one breakout game like Conner just had at Creighton, he will look like a new player and be able to contribute more this season.1 point -

I don’t agree with that. Creighton might not be final four good like the last couple but they are a good team, that we man handled on their own court. I watched them beat up Purdue on the same floor. Losing Ashworth for an extended time will test for them though. Not saying you have to pencil anyone into the tourney but we’ve seen enough to know we can be a pretty good team if we keep improving. Nothing wrong with people thinking we are good enough to get votes. Enjoy the ride.1 point -

A completely self-inflicted injury. He began the jump shot going straight up, wasn't fading at all, then decided to try to draw a foul. Left foot landed behind the three point line, kicked his right leg way out to try to make it seem like Rollie was in his landing area and his right foot landed three feet inside the arc. Landed very awkwardly because of it. This stuff drives me nuts. I hope the era of trying to deceive officials into calling fouls rather than just playing basketball comes to an end soon. Very unfortunate for Creighton because Ashworth is so vital to their team this year.1 point
