Now up to No. 2. Just to clarify what these rankings mean: On3's Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window. It doesn't mean we have the second best transfer class, it means we have the second most improvement via the portal. We replaced low-rated players with higher-rated ones. West Virginia is behind us On3s, but has picked up 2 of CBS' top 10 transfers. However, they're replacing guys off an NCAA tournament roster.5 points -
Poor evaluations?
Cowboy Kermit and 3 others reacted to hhcmatt for a topic
Few things 1. Would those guys have become the players they did if they came here and ended on the bench instead of immediate playing time? 2. For every guy you can come up with, I can probably come up with 2+ guys that didn't pan out 3. Mike Daum isn't eligible for 'why didn't Nebraska recruit this Nebraska guy' threads because his coaches at SDSU spent the first year thinking they made a mistake offering him a scholarship Otherwise, Matt A wasn't offering any of these guys because Rivals didn't give them enough stars. Miles whiffed on Tonje. It would seem that things have changed as we have Jacobsen here and have 2 offers to 2025 guys ATM.4 points -

My guess is Amy and her staff were actively pursuing several other players in the transfer portal this spring….but at the end of the day, for whatever reasons, those players chose to go elsewhere. It happens. Like others have said, we just gotta get better to become a more attractive program to talented recruits, both in high school and in the transfer portal.3 points -

Makes sense as he was simply buried on the depth chart with all the guys we brought in. Not much playing time behind Reink, Keita, Allick and Gary considering everyone but Keita could conceivably play the 4 or 5. He didn't develop into the guy we thought he would out of HS and he likely won't on the bench. Gives us a shot at taking a project, a freshman, or in the Grant Nelson lottery. Probably the best for us both.2 points

I saw Breidenbach & Lawrence in the Student Union yesterday & was immediately struck by how short & skinny they are. They look SO much more formidable from Section 320.2 points -
They need both, IMO, and an enforcer post, too. White will help, tho. If she can get to the rim with consistency, draw fouls, make FTs, that's a big boost. Plus, she can defend and she'll bring a note of toughness.2 points

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. And this is an exciting prospect from your article: “I can envision Hoiberg calling a lot of the same plays for Williams as he did for Tominaga, which could make things very difficult on opposing defenses if Tominaga returns and shares the court with him.”1 point -

If nothing else, this hurts us in practice. Being defended by a 6'10" dude who plays like his hair is on fire can only make you better. That being said, most teams play a rotation of 7-9 guys and WB was not among our current 7-9 best players. Injuries and foul trouble do happen, so he still would have played. But probably not nearly as much as a third-year player would want. I wish him well, and hope he finds success at a lower competition level. He could tear it up as a center in a league like the Summit.1 point -

If we could get Nissley to about 40 and maybe Jaz close to that at the 3 point line it will open up the middle for AM. Plus having AW and now DW being able to drive to the basket and we could be a tough team to guard if we can get a little bit of luck for the season. We will also need some of that luck on the other end of the court. AM will need to play smart and not pickup silly fouls. Plus will need for Stewart to pickup her play with better defense and rebounding. With what looks like a loaded VB team we might not see MM til after Christmas.1 point -

Quote from HCFH "Ahron is a player we've gotten to know well having faced him five times over the last three seasons," Hoiberg said. "He brings a lot of valuable Big Ten experience to our program. Ahron possesses a very competitive defensive mindset, while offensively he is a talented ball handler and playmaker who is good in transition. In 2022 when Iowa won the Big Ten Tournament, he shared his team's Top Playmaker Award. Ahron has been to three NCAA Tournaments and comes from a great Marian Catholic high school program in Chicago. We're excited about the winning mentality he will bring to our team."1 point -

Gary's high-water mark was last year when he shot 26% on 57 attempts from beyond the arc and 62% from the line. Allick's high-water mark was his junior year at UMKC when he shot 36% on 36 attempts from beyond the arc and 75% from the line. Combine his sophomore and junior years at UMKC and he was a combined 29 of 81 for 35.8% before slumping last season. According to Torvik's stats, Gary was 65.5% at the rim and 34.4% on other 2-pointers for us last year. Allick was 70.3% at the rim and 42.9% on other 2-pointers last year at New Mexico. Even with a bad year from downtown, Allick's EFG last year was about 10 pts higher than Gary's. Their rebounding numbers are very similar. Gary is *slightly* better on defensive rebounding and Allick slightly better on the offensive side. Allick was a full-time starter logging 32 minutes/game on a New Mexico team that was 35-40 spots better than us depending on whose computer you're going by. I agree Gary can guard all 5 spots. Allick is longer. It'll be an interesting battle.1 point -

During the NU exhibition VB game yesterday against Wichita St. John Cook wore a mike during the second set and talked to the announcers about a variety of things. One of the questions one announcer asked him was how was Maggie readjusting to VB after playing WBB. He said she is doing great and that playing basketball has really helped her in volleyball. He says many of his great players in the past like Jordan Larson played both sports in High School. He said the transition from BB to VB is easier then vice versa. He said she came in great condition from all the running in BB so he is having his volleyball players do more running. By the way the VB game was fun to watch. He is building a great team. All five new freshmen play at a high level. They will be taking a 2 week trip to Brazil and play some top teams there. This all happens before the fall practice season starts. WVB portal reopens tomorrow for two weeks.1 point

John Cook comments about Maggie Mendelson playing basketball
mwm89 reacted to All About the Corn for a topic
I think we have talked Amy's status here quite a bit. Was Tom asked to leave or did he want a change? Only they know. I too hope we get better play from the veterans and the incoming class plays like a veteran. Karl is correct that it will not get any easier going forward. You either step it up or you get left behind. Here's hoping we are moving on up.1 point -
When Coach was talking, as Hud mentioned, Cook said it is easier to go from basketball to volleyball. Being a part time basketball player, will not be easy. Not sure she will ever reach her full bball potential as a part time player. But, volleyball is her favorite sport, and she looked very good Saturday. Happy to have her as a Husker. Regarding the volleyball frosh, they were amazing. Add in the fact Maggie M. is the same age, and what a crop of 17/18 year olds we have. Cook must pinch himself at times.1 point
