  4. Don't we have like 5 spots open next year? Why do people assume we can't still get some of the other guys? Unless my math is just GOD awful I still think we have 4 openings left. If Miles and staff see something they like in this guy, then that is all I need to know. Some of you are the same people that were writing off Petteway 2 weeks into the season last year.

  5. If coach miles and the staff liked him enough to give him an offer then im fine with it.

If all of this is true, it is more evidence that Miles has a better chance than anyone in making it work in this league without needing to only sign a bunch of 4 and 5 stars and the notorious recruits. He seems to have a great knack for identifying under the radar talent, knowing which guys can excel in his system, and how to blend the moving parts. Don't get me wrong, he knows he has to get a couple of NBA guys to be at the top of this league, but if anyone has the chance to overcome our recruiting disadvantages with better player identification and development, it is this guy.

  7. You make great points. I think the concern is dat signing dis cat prolly means no Morrow. It be rare,to get 2 PFs in the same class plus a kid like Morrow wit tons of high level offers aint likely to go where they got another pf in the same class. Two totally different players. We may indeed may not getc Morrow but it won't be because of the Jacobsen commitment.

By definition they play the same position but they are nothing alike. Jacobson is a 6-7th man, stretch the floor guy similar to what Matt Bonner does for San Antonio. I am sure the coaches have communicated everything thoroughly with morrow. Plenty of schools sign multiple players at the same position each year so that wouldn't be a first by any means. The coaches are pressing hard for Morrow and that showed by having at least one coach at every game in Vegas. He's the main priority of this class.

  9. #214 in the nation is the type of player we've been fighting for at the end of the recruiting cycle. It's just earlier on so it feels different because we're less desperate. This is a solid commit for us. http://247sports.com/Player/Michael-Jacobson-59856 I know people ended up having different opinions on Atewe, but most people would've been happy to take him and he was #301 in the nation. http://247sports.com/Player/Matthew-Atewe-25427?Institution=2644. dit: Hammond ended up as the #191 player in the nation per 247 composite. Are we not happy with him? http://247sports.com/Player/Jake-Hammond-23651?Institution=24971

  10. plus Iowa State doesn't want him, yet, don't they only take guys who started at other schools? And when was the last time ISU recruited a kid with a 4.0 GPA?. Yeah I went there!

  11. Not saying Jacobson will end to be the same caliber of player, but I'm just saying there was recently another 6'8" 220 lb coach's son from Iowa without any big offers who turned out to be pretty good.... http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/undervalued-in-high-school-doug-mcdermott-is-now-thriving?urn=ncaab,wp6693 Let's reserve judgement please.

    Tarin Smith

Early word out of the Husker basketball world is that Tarin Smith has been "holding his own" in practices and that he is very athletic. On athleticism, here is video evidence via twitter:

I kind of like this quote from the LJS article: “With their style of play – I’ve known Coach Miles since his days at North Dakota State – I think it’s a really great fit for Michael,” said Waukee High School coach Justin Ohl, a former men’s basketball assistant coach at Drake. “His body stands out, his length. He’s 6-8 but he’s got a big wing span, and the fact he’s still young for his age. He doesn’t shave yet. He’s a very competitive kid, he’s hard-nosed. He really fits what Coach Miles has been able to build on throughout this career with that type of individual.” http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/nebraska-really-great-fit-for-recuit-jacobson/article_043ba8ff-e28c-509c-a3ad-5021297d7b2c.html

  15. Actually, Creighton was waiting for us to offer so that they could offer and then claim that they were actually after him the whole time.

  17. Thanks for finding the film atskooc. Decent looking shot. Totally NOT a stiff. Has some decent tools. I question his athleticism, so whoever said athletic and underrated, I didn't see much (other than being recruited to play TE) that says "athletic" to me. But I could be wrong about the athleticism part. I do not think this is a wasted scholarship, regardless of what his other offers might have been. This is a kid who, if he waited to sign next April, would "blow up" over the winter and get offers from all kinds of majors looking to fill out their classes. He is far more skilled than Atewe. Doesn't take a lot of film to see that. I'm good with this. Now let's go get the next one.

  18. Same with Patton and that didn't stop you from having a man crush on him. Of course, if Miles would have offered Patton yuz wusa Benz kryin.Go back an look. I called patton a reach. He been blowing up since doe. Aint me who be ranking him...it be 247 and da scout and rivals cats. If jacobsen had same props from da rankin dudes I'd be more excited. Jacobson is #180 on 24/7, but all sites combined #214. and Patton is #119 on 24/7 and their composite for all sites for him is #219. So technically using all recruiting sites the composite score says they like Jacobson more. So isn't the same propz?

  19. Here is some info on Jacobson from Washut: "Jacobson picked Nebraska over other offers from Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Northern Iowa, Wyoming, UTEP, Drake, Northern Colorado, Indiana State, Fordam and Lehigh, while Stanford, Iowa, Iowa State and Vanderbilt had all been showing heavy interest in July." Jacobson also holds an Iowa St. offer as a tight end. The Ivy League offers are reflective of his 4.0 GPA. Tim Miles offered in April, while the "heavy interest" from others came "in July." Looks like a typical Tim Miles recruit: athletic, smart and under-rated.

  20. We're not going to get five Top 100 players. Frankly, I'd rather have some 4 year players who are from the region than some of the transfer / foreign / JUCO guys we could end up going after.

    Michael Jacobson

Top 200 player in the country. Hes a niche player that can be used in multiple ways. Was also getting offers in football as a TE. Iowa is said to have been close to offering as early as today per BR and other teams were on the verge as well. Extremely bright young man and seems to fit the mold of person Miles has gotten lately with guys like Fuller, Smith, etc. OWH says others schools were involved....Drake,Brown,Indiana St, Northern Iowa and Leigh. Football offer from Iowa St. Also says his Twitter account shows him with his arm around Mark Mangino. I guess he does have a big wing span!

Why would BR specifically say CU offered in the first place? Why even mention CU if he didn't know for sure especially when he retracted in later. Pretty poor journalism if you asked me. He either made a simple mistake or passed along some bad information. He's a good journalist. It's gonna happen in this world of "get the story out ASAP."

  28. I see him and Fuller as similar players. Thats why I'd like to see a year of separation. Totally different. Fuller is left handed. Jacobson is not. So ...

I bet Morrow is worried about beating out Jacobson for minutes. If there was any chance that this decreased the odds of landing Morrow ten his offer wouldn't have been a commitable one.

  35. Probably not a program changer but I do like we pulled a guy out of Iowa. He does seem like a tall dude with an outside shot that we can bulk up to have some inside defensive presence which should fit our system. Hopefully we're seeing where he projects before others do and quite frankly with the way we've been filling scholarships the last couple of years we need a little bit of that as opposed to fighting for this same guy 6 months from now. Cool. Let's add some more dudes. I hope hes a guy willing to redshirt like Fuller. It would even out the classes and gives us a guy that could be a great 6-7th man in a few years.

  37. I am OK with the signing and I don't have a perfect memory but I don't think anyone was writing off Petteway. There were legitimate questions raised about things such as shot selection which pretty much everyone involved including Petteway acknowledged. Solving such major issues as team chemistry is one of the many reasons I feel Miles has proven his judgement can be trusted. So I hope for the best with the signing and try to stay grounded in reality.

  38. Sounds similar to your boy Patton that has only one offer period and still has a ton of work in the classroom left to get done. At least Jacobson is for sure playing D1 next year.

  40. Nothing wrong with a stretch 4 option. Infinitely different skill set than Morrow. Also, he's a coach's kid, book smart, and already weighs 220. He'll be fine. Not a star, but a good role player.
