Icedraggon, can't believe I'm getting draged into this, but here goes ... 1. The dismal of Correy Hilliard. Where do you get the information that he wasn't involved? In the cell phone. And what makes you think that was the ony think he did wrong He had two thinks he did wrong and got in trouble with polise but you just heared one. So Miles had no choise in the mater. Correy had too go. If Miles just wanted to cleer space on his rooster, why din't he just get rid of David Rivers to? 2. Scheduling the Charleston Classic. I agree this was bade because playing good teams a the Charleston classic helped our rpi and make us look better now since we didn't win all the games. but beat Georgia and lossed to Massachuets. So really that helped are rpi now but that only helps if we make the dance or the INT. So if we win few more games then that was good that we went at Charletson because it helps our SOS but if we don't win few more games then we don't have to make NCAAs and then that's bad. So that's bad because we could have won better against badder teams and give us a good record that has bad SOS all over it. So maybe it was good going to charletson. 3. Not excepting trounemant offer. Well, you half to remember it was not the same team last year that it is this year. If we had went to trounement like CIB lsat year its Ubel playing and we play 7 guys and the only guys coming back from that group were benny Parker and Rivers and Ray and the tall guy who doesn't play to much. And shavon. Shields. So it probably doesn't help to much that we play in a trouenemtn last yaer If we could have played last year with Petway and Pitchford and Tai and al the knew guys, then playing in CIB would have been gooder than not but since we didn't have them I guess not. 4. Deverell Biggs. You want to reserve judgment? REally? Why? You already said it was wrong to dismiss Hillyerd but not Biggs? Hillyard didn't do anything for us He just played few minutes frehman year. but Biggs scored points and so he ment something on this team. If Miles didn't have reason to dimiss Hilyerd (2 criminal complaints) then why could he dismiss Biggs who only had one that he was given more hcnance after that. Makes no since. I think miles shuld have dimissed both Hillyard and Biggs because he was right to do it. And thay did wrong stuff to so they should go.4 points -

Shields coming off the bench?
hhcmatt and 2 others reacted to Shuttlesworth for a topic
Another classic case where perception trumps reality. In reality, other than the dip in FG%, Shavon's Per 40 numbers are better across the board. Also, in our last six games, Shavon is shooting a very serviceable 44%. Again, perception trumps reality. You have to remember, Shavon is really a wing learning how to be a big on the fly (In the Big Ten no less). Despite this, we are one of the best in the conference in defensive rebounding %. But of course Shavon finding bodies so that we can secure defensive rebounds doesn't show up in the box score. In other words, sending Shavon to the bench and reducing his minutes is not a good idea.3 points -
No. On this team, Shavon is decidedly not a backup, and is not a 20 minute a game guy. If his knee allows him to play, he will be on the court 30 + every game. Of a bigger concern is how we can get Leslee back to giving us some decent minutes. He has been scuffling something fierce the past several games.3 points

WSU is going to make the NCAA, We are not. that should cause to pause and look at what we need to change. And, with your great scheduling acumen (of which you want us to go to a tournament that doesn't even exist), we were going to make the tournament this year. I think I will trust Miles, who used the RPI scheduling technique to get a team into the NCAA tournament (Colorado State) over someone who dreams up schedules on the internet.1 point

Of course you said that you didn't understand him taking a bid last year, and everyone pointed out why we didn't take the bid last year. Many of the reasons would be very different this year. We would have home court throughout the tournament due to our fan support. We would have many of our players back next year. We would not lose near the money we would have last year. Finally, Purdue accepted a bid to the tournament so we wouldn't be the first Big 10 team to take a bid from the CBI. I think all the posters would agree that this year, we should take the bid. Almost all the same posters would agree with Miles and company last year declining the invitation.1 point -

Good question. Ersty gave a statistic at the banquet--I didn't catch it all but he said since we joined the league it has gone from 16th to 10th to 6th or something like that in terms of conference power ratings. Said several schools are building or putting in major facility renovations. Implied they are doing it to keep up or catch up with us. He likes the competition. So it should follow that the Big can be more than a one bid league. I haven't yet looked at the lineups for other schools to get a feel for 2014, but i do think we'll get in this year.1 point -

It will be like it has been all year, or for ever. The team will need to do something to get the place going, then it is up to us, and the powers that be to keep it going. We might be more willing as afan base to get excited now, because we have seen it and been told it works. but "we" as a fan base haven't got to the level where we start at a roar and go to the next level. 1. Most coaches do some house cleaning when they come aboard especially when taking over as horrible team as we had. If he's a user then explain why David Rivers is still here? 2. You like the scheduling and yet you don't?!? He upgraded our schedule during the non-conference and it is paying off now. 3. Rather than going to a tournament that wouldn't have helped us one bit it was decided to focus on recruiting. 4. Miles was put in a bad situation here and that's all I'm going to say about this subject as it's already been discussed. We've been a horrible basketball team for more than a decade now and you make a post like this in year 2 of Miles tenure?1 point -

Sure you can. They've played well at home. No reason to think otherwise until they do differently. Against the good teams, on the road, they have had it handed to them. No reason to think otherwise until they do differently. Against teams similar to them on the road, they've been competitive. No reason to think otherwise until they do differently. Based on that, it's actually fairly easy to make a prediction about this team.1 point -

Obviously we could. But my goal is to make the dance each and every year. So you can be damn sure I am going to be paying attention to what is needed to make it. Doesn't mean I think will, but I want to be aware of what is going on. And it makes no difference whatsoever what we are worried about anyway. It is what the team is worried about that matters. This nonsense about the fans having to only worry about the next game is ludicrous IMO. +1,000. So sick of people telling me I can't talk about the past and can't talk about the future. If all we are allowed to talk about is Illinois and the next game, this message board would be pretty dang boring. You are correct! I want desperately for NU to get to a post season tournament, I'm 62 and don't have as much time as some of you younger guys. You are right. These boards are for enthusiastic fans and speculation. That's what makes them interesting. It's the "old" coach in me that tends to be conservative.1 point -
1. We don't know the situation with Hilliard. You don't either. Maybe he wasn't buying into Miles system. Maybe, it was a mutual decision. Hilliard wasn't going to get much playing time. 2. Miles knows what the committee looks for in their schedule. UMASS and Georgia are not coming to Lincoln. Georgia, for one, would demand a return trip. Plus, it allowed us to prepare for conference play. 3. We would have had to go on the road, as the Bob was being remodeled for volleyball. We were graduating most of the team that would have played meaningful minutes in the tournament. Finally, it would have cost us a bunch of money. 4. This is just plain stupid. Biggs got a DUI last year, strike 1. He was late for a film session, strike 2. After all that, he was late for another film session. Final strike. If Miles was heartless as you say, he wouldn't have let Biggs stay in school to graduate so he can play at a Division 1 school next year.1 point

This. I was shocked when I looked at how poorly Illinois was doing, especially after getting those two conference wins early. But these guys have talent and are pretty athletic. It's going to take a well-executed game for NU to win this. If it's the best crowd of the season, I think that definitely can push NU over the top. But Illinois I think is better than their record. Be there and be loud. If your wife hasn't had her baby, you should be there Actuary1 point -
It is a stupid argument to run him off anyway unless you have a 4 or 5 star replacing him. One of the big problems with Doc's teams was having no player consistency. It seemed like we had 6 or 7 new guys a season. With that came no team chemistry and ending up with lesser players than those that had been replaced. If Miles wants to have this program great he needs guys that have been around to show the new guys his expectations. He certainly shouldn't have to spend a lot of time going over his expectations when veteran players are already leading the new guys. Even the guys on the bench have a role. Look over there after big plays and timeouts. Those guys are the first to get the guys on the court fired up. Also we probably don't want to have to fill 4 or 5 scholarships. At least not until we can get that many quality recruits committed. It seems Miles would have a better shot at better players with the less he has to fill. That means he doesn't necessarily have to just settle on a guy.1 point

Says the guy whose out to get Eichorst because he's not Tom Osborne. Ron you seem to be very very bitter. Osborne is not coming back! Dude your making this to personal. I've judged him solely on the job he's done based on the position he holds. His biggest moves thus far have been to hire a couple of unnecessary overpaid middle management bean counters instead of paying more to the assistant coaches. Lmao what? Tim Beck salary under Tom Osborne- $ 365,000 Tim Beck salary under Shawn Eichorst- $700,000 So now we are in the business of giving handouts just for the hell of it? What exactly did the assistant coaches due to deserve a raise this past year? If anything, our beef should be with Eichorst giving Els a raise....you know, the guy who can't even put together a punt return unit. Produce...and you will get a raise...plain and simple. That recruiting staff bean counters is more than Tom Osborne ever did to help this staff get over the recruiting hump. Can we keep this about basketball and the state it's in please. take the football shit else where. Sounds good, if you take the profanity elsewhere...1 point -

Ready for a bold and premature prediction? Two years from now, as we are conversing about how high of seed we are going to receive in the NCAA's, we are going to be darn glad we have a kid coming off the bench who's not afraid to get in someone's jock. Benny's a weapon, fellows. Very limited offensively? Sure. There's all different types of weapons though, and Benny is worth his 160 lbs in gold as a perimeter defender. The more he continues to improve as a ball handler, the better. In the next two years, if the kid gets better at hitting a jumper, he will be a good role player on a pretty good team.1 point -

Says the guy whose out to get Eichorst because he's not Tom Osborne. Ron you seem to be very very bitter. Osborne is not coming back!Eichorst has earned plenty of criticism on his own, without regard to who is predecessor was. Hopefully he will grow into the job and ultimately turn out OK.You can make that claim for just about any AD, hell...the same could be said about Tom Osborne when he was first hired as AD telling Bo which assistants to keep and being a cheapskate with recruiting resources. Eichorst atleast has started to open up the checkbook which is needed if NU wants to get back to winning football titles. The only group not giving Eichorst a chance is Ron's tradition coalition group because they know Perlman hired him without Osbornes consent. Eichorst hasn't been perfect, and probably never will be perfect but i do see that he never had a chance with this group. Of course, Pederson the guy who everyone hates...and rightfully so...was given two thumbs up by Tom Osborne before he was hired. There may be that group out there (T.O. loyalists not giving Eichorst a chance), but I assure you that's not where I'm coming from. In fact, I think there is a group of people who thought it was time for TO to fade off into the sunset who support Eichorst because he is new and not TO--without regard to how he is actually doing the job. 13, you are a great poster on this board, but is there a chance your views on Eichorst are colored by some lingering disdain for Osborne? Sounds a little like it when you hammer him for getting it wrong (like many others including myself) on Pedey. I have spent a considerable amount of time in his presence, and have been disappointed to this point. He is nicknamed "The Ghost" by many for being so publically non-existent. He is a manager rather than a leader, to this point. I am amazed that someone can generate a 7 figure salary with his lack of talent in public speaking and interacting with people. I will say he is much better one on one than trying to stumble his way around a speech or a simple walk up to a table of 8; where his lack of ability is mind-boggling for a person in his position. Last night at the baseball banquet was another classic example. No one even knew he was there until he snuck out the door, inappropriately attired once again. He stayed in a corner, and had no interaction with the tables full of boosters. This happens frequently. There are different styles that can work in this visible job, but he needs to show at least some recognition of interacting with fans, boosters, and his own coaches (his management structure is such that no coaches report to him, it is all through intermediaries. It is difficult for a coach to even get in to see him). Having said this, after a few years there will be a track record on hiring coaches. If he is good at that, all will be pretty well. But the early returns on his leadership aren't good. But sorry, we've gotten off of basketball on the basketball forum....1 point -
