At the end of the game I understood why Lawrence was called for his offensive foul.  But then on the very next play,.that same call is not made against Battle.  That summed up the officiating for the game.

This loss doesn’t put us in the last 8 in the field category just yet. However, we aren’t cemented just yet either.

 

Thankfully most bubble teams are taking losses right now too which is helping us stay out of the most bubbly group.

 

Win Sunday and then take the week off to rest up before we go win in Michigan.

OSU wanted it more tonight. Love this Husker team! Love these coaches! And I would also love to see them play TOUGH home and away. If they can do that the rest of the way, there is a Sweet 16 coming soon. If they don’t, they are going to have to shoot lights out to win. And they didn’t tonight. GBR!!!

That is frustrating.   I understand calling a game tight, or allowing bully ball.  As long as it is called the same, I can live with it.

 

Tonight, that was not the case.  And, it seems to involve having one of the following refs, DJ Carstens, Curry, and/or Kelly Pfifer. 

 

I never heard of the refs Sunday, and I thought it was a decently called game.

Very much a "I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed." type of outcome tonight.

 

Implications to NCAA seeding, Big Ten tournament bye games, and momentum late in the season.

If you're going to go minus-17 at the FT line, you have to do better from the 3-pt line than we did.

 

That segment at the end of the first half killed us. Probably a different game if we're up 5-7 pts at halftime.

Quad 1 game on the road against a team playing as hot as anyone. More than a few shots that rolled in and out of the rim. Questionable at best officiating.

 

And we still had a real chance with 3 minutes left in the game.

 

That being said if we don’t take as many bad shots, don’t make dumb fouls on the far end of the court, and don’t get mixed up on defense a few times we win that game dispute the bullshit.

 

Very frustrating, but not a big deal at the end of the day.

I thought we wanted it.  We still had guys deflecting the ball and going for it.  The ball honestly was just bouncing bad for us.  There were at least 3 plays where we were in the right position,  but the ball went right to Ohio State for an easy put back.

 

Combine that with poor shooting, not a good recipe.

Although we had a few chances to steal a win, B1G officiating is so frustrating to watch.  They are intimidated by home crowds.  It's hard to overcome that kind of free throw discrepancy.  

 

Also, I hope we never see Battle again.  He seems to always play well against us no matter what team he is on.  I told my buddy earlier today that Battle was going to have a career night and sure enough, he shot lights out.  I'm not sure why we didn't put more pressure on him, but it is what it is now.

 

With that said, it's one game, move on and beat Rutgers.  Still have plenty to play for.  GBR!

Good point. There was some hustle, but sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way. Add to that poor shooting, and there you go. Let’s take it to Rutgers on Sunday!

Big Ten officiating is embarrassingly bad at times. The inconsistency from game to game and even half to half is so frustrating. And there's zero accountability. So, they can remain bad and never get called out. Who among us can be that shitty at our jobs and still be confident that we will be protected from criticism?

I rarely drink on the weekdays but I was slamming blue yummies ready to celebrate when I seen their PG was out. All we had to do is not let Battle go off. So now I’m drinking my sorrows away. 
 

Not overly worried but tonight would have clinched it in my opinion - a quad 1 road victory is cash money. Have to win the next game. I think we will.

I've been saying for quite a while that pressure doesn't start until 9 conference losses. If only get to 20 wins in regular season need to win 1 or 2 in B10 tourney. And maybe it's just me but sure seemed like broadcast was pushing for tosu to get into tourney.

I was really unhappy with what sounded on the radio at least as a team that kept hitting the cruise button on the steering wheel way too early with too small of a lead. 

 

you can't play that passively and expect good things to happen. we win when we're the aggressor. tonight we never really were. 

 

I'm actually surprised OSU didn't beat us by more.

I despise Robbie Hummel about as much as I despise Nick Bahe. He is like this for every game of ours that he calls whether home or away.

At risk of belaboring the bad officiating take, we had 3 guys with 4 fouls; they had no one with more than 2.

 

Final foul disparity was 21-9. Ohio State got whistled for half of their usual foul count.

 

One more thing: If Lurch was bald, he'd look like DJ Carstensen.
