Oddly I am so much less hopeful, even after this win than I was prior.  We are not good at all and now thin as hell on top of it without Gary.  He gave us an element that instilled confidence in our team.   Thankfully we caught Ohio St. playing about as bad as they can play.  They aren't great by any means but much better than this effort tonight.  We continue to play hard and that is all I ask of this bunch.

Great win. Love it. But I will say in regards to this line of thinking that Ohio State is the first team to figure out that all you have to do is fall over when Derrick puts his shoulder down. Don't know why other teams haven't been doing that, but that's a charge every time and he's been going downhill like that all year.

For what it's worth, there's a lot of "not good" teams in the NIT. If we make it there, that's a win in-and-of-itself.

tell them with a Husker victory, they'll get a Lucky Jerky beef stick.  😉

Ended up with a decent crowd that was pretty boisterous.   Especially when that Jack wagon referee kept making insanely horrific calls.  A*****e

Horrible reffing but what else is new huh?

I will give credit where credit is due.  Two of the referees were fine.  The third one however, had to be on the take.  He was HORRIBLE!

Well...I'm here at the arena with about 500 of my fellow fans...

Everyone in our block brought extras. We had 12 people for 6 seats and we could have brought 40 more

I don't think the path is tremendously different to make the NCAA or the NIT and we don't have much of a shot at either I am afraid.   Going to have to be on the right side of a lot of variance looking at it realistically.

I disagree with not fouling there... but alas... it doesn't matter.  We win!

The call was to foul before the 3 which thankfully was poorly executed

Zac Key with 0 fouls and has yet to set a legal screen.

I predict much bullshit before tehe end of this.

Thank you for bringing this up.  Every high ball screen he sets should be called a foul.  He usually doesn't move his feet or stick his leg or hip out, but his upper body/shoulder leans into the moving defender EVERY time.

I'm not sure which OSU player it was, but there was a play where OSU missed a shot.  The OSU guy went to box out and literally blocked Dawson out of bounds.  Nothing called.

I remember that one.  I was screaming at the TV.  I think Dawson hustled down the floor and made a good defensive play, so kudos to him.

Is it just me, or has the "flop tech" basically gone away from earlier in the year?

It has indeed disappeared.  In the beginning of the season referees consciously called a few that were ridiculously bad calls, to turn everybody off of the rule, and then moved on to never call it.  It will be called about as often as three seconds or a carry.

I'm actually about the same as before the game.  OSU is not playing very well, and we were lucky to get out with a win.  Maybe, a little more hopeful.  It has to do with the contributions from Dawson, Lawrence, and Oleg.  The only trouble is that they are young and are going to be inconsistent.

Unless it’s egregious I doubt we ever really see it again. It’s too subjective. Especially when we’ve been accustomed to seeing them all called a charge and the refs calling it as so their entire lives.

I’ve noticed it too with guards flailing their heads back when they’re trying to penetrate and look like they’re being fouled. Theyre supposed to call that a foul but rarely call that one anymore either it seems.

Dawson's 30 min. with production is a HUGE benefit going forward. Same goes for Lawrence's 19 min. with production. And even Kojenets gave some good minutes tonight. Those 3 dudes helped NU overcome not having Juwan Gary. And Wilhelm also some good things out there with Walker being in constant foul trouble. NU needs some dudes to step up, and those guys did that tonight.

Nebraska really needs Bandoumel and Wilcher to start making more shots going forward to get road dubs. Sam was his usual Sam self with 15 & 7. And Keisei is a tireless guy on both the offensive and defensive end, albeit a bit small oftentimes. I just love the way he tries his best at all times, that spirit is contagious with this squad. They believed they could win tonight, and went out & gave it their all. That's all I ever ask, but winning is certainly more fun than not playing well and giving up late vs the Illini. Man, those two endings could not be more different. On to the next. GBR

Really like how Lawrence is progressing, just needs more time and confidence. Hopefully Denim can develop his jumper as well. Two nice young guys to work with.

I like Lawrence, still think he has a lot of potential. He is gaining confidence every game and once he feels confident in his 3 point shot, things could take off.  He is already a solid defender and a fairly steady player.  He is a bit small for a 2 guard, but he has a good base, strong legs, will not be easily pushed around.

The hope for Dawson is that he can develop into what Gary currently is.  They are very similar in athleticism, grit, hustle and limited offensive skills.

Oleg could be a decent center someday, but he must get bigger and stronger. His biggest issue is that he can easily be pushed off the block when he is trying to rebound.  Even much smaller players can push him out, making him almost completely ineffective as a rebounder.  But he already is a more skilled offensive player than Keita.

Interesting thing is Ramel Lloyd was the most highly ranked freshman recruit.  Really hope he sticks around and continues to develop.  He is listed at 6'6" and 204lbs while Griesel is listed at 6'7" and 216 lbs.  Griesel is currently much bigger and stronger, but I would hope Ramel is more skilled and a better shooter.  If Ramel can get bigger and stronger, and continue to develop his skills, he could be a nice replacement to Griesel with a similar advantage of being a tall PG.  Having his height would also better facilitate Lawrence as a smaller 2 guard.
