In other words, you're saying he is not the second coming of Magic Johnson? I seem to remember a rumor that he would be a high draft choice in the NBA next year. Was that some sort of fake news or what?

He's a 6'9" guard with vision and ball handling skills. He's leading our team in blocks, rebounds, and assists and is 2nd on the team in scoring. He has an unreliable outside shot, can be turnover prone, and seems to miss bunnies at a higher rate than you'd expect for someone so tall. His deficiencies seem like skills that can be developed. His combination of ability, size, and skill is quite rare which is why he is a NBA prospect.

If the problem is that he's not Cam Mack enough to run this offense, you have to consider if this is more of a Nebraska problem than a Banton problem because who do we have that we're going to put in that role to do a better job?  At this point it feels like our success next year hinges on Bryce McGowens being able to step in here day one to drive and dish as the focal point of our offense. That's a lot to ask.

‘Hopefully we are still looking to add a true PG. I think if Delano was playing off the ball in this offense he would be much better. As you pointed out he does a lot of great things for us.

Interesting stat titbit:  Tom Crean took over Indiana in 2008... I know there were some sanctions from Kelvin Sampson, but Crean played an uptempo style much like what we do... look at his first 5 yrs...

6-25   1-17

10-21  4-14

12-20  3-15

27-9  11-7     Sweet 16

29-7  14-4    Sweet 16

Not saying we are going to the Sweet 16.... sometimes however it takes a wee bit to get it going.

John Beilein.. 2 losing seasons in his first 3... same type of style

Well, I'm taking this to my bookie.

I'm not saying that I don't like Delano or that he doesn't do good things for our team this year. I just think it is a stretch to think an NBA team will waste a high draft pick and plan to teach him to shoot more accurately and play defense in time to be an asset to the team. He appears to be someone who could play overseas and for the Canadian Olympic team at best from what I have observed so far. But I'm just someone sitting on my couch, not someone involved in building an NBA team, so what do I know? I still remember saying on this site that Paul Milsap would never play in the NBA after seeing him in the Ameritas Classic.

There is more time between now and next year's NBA draft than now and the start of this pandemic not to mention a G League. He's got time.

Dalano continues to play himself into a reserve role next year when Bryce arrives. And Teddy is establishing himself as a cornerstone upon which to build a competitive rotation in 21-22.

I think he could still be close to a 20 minute a night guy off the bench. As an off ball wing who’s not asked to create for everyone I think our opinions of him would be different. Would I like him to be a better shooter? Yeah but to me he makes up for his rough shooting it other areas that we need to be a competitive  team next season

Just to post a little positivity about him I thought Delano’s jump shot had a lot more arch on it last night.

Dalano's three-ball has been noticeably better as of late. That's a distinct positive to his game recently.

Or  both start (Dalano and Byrce) with Dalano shifting to the 4 and Byrce playin in the backcourt.   Not saying that will happen but just pointing out the value of Dalano is his versatility.   He just needs to keep working.  There is a lot to like.

A million percent this.

I start my grades next season.  That’s a complete roster with plenty of shooters, skill, and athleticism.  I anticipated a much better season, but I also anticipated Walker, a non con, and some semblance of home court advantage would take place.

To not be impressed with this recruiting haul is mind blowing to me.  Anyone with eyes can see we have good pieces right now, but need more shooters on the perimeter next season.

How many games have we had Walker?  Like 8? How are we playing now that we’ve gelled with him a bit?

Kind of reminds me of our best season ever with Beau Reid and that gang.   We were horrible until their last year when they put it all together.  Just have to get all the parts on the court and get them assembled and playing together.  We are making progress.

I would argue that Bryce will start, and that three of his fellow starters will be Allen, Mayen and Walker, leaving room only for either Trey or Banton as the fifth starter. Mayen and Walker would be the front court.

I could see either Trey or Banton as valuable in a sixth-man role, bringing energy (Trey) or mismatch-abiity (Banton). Andre also seems a lock for the rotation, leaving Breidenbach, Tominaga, Stevenson, and others battling for one or two spots, assuming the entire team doesn't transfer, of course.

I'm pretty sure Trey will start with his brother. Either because someone currently on the roster leaves or just because that's what Team McGowens thought would happen when Bryce signed. Fred can always manage minutes based on their effectiveness, but I believe both will start.

Last brothers to start? Edmund and Harry Hagensick?

It's a really deep roster next season with lots of possibilities.  That's what I like about it--options.

Small ball (also my guess for starters):

BMac

TMac

Allen

Lat

Banton

^^^ I think this is a deadly lineup.  We might get killed in the post (although I think Banton's post D is underrated) but we'd be horrifying in transition and could run the 5 out/handoffs until we have a mismatch against almost any team.  It would be all layups and 3s with this bunch.

3pt:

Bmac

Tominaga

Allen

Lat

Breidenbach

Size:

BMac

Banton

Allen

Breidenbach

Walker

I really, really, like the diversity of skills the new recruits are going to bring.  We don't have a player like any of them on the current roster.  BMac is a three level scorer.  Tominaga is a pure 3pt specialist and moves without the ball extremely well.  Breidenbach is a legitimate threat from 3 and is a fantastic big man passer.

Does anybody think Kobe or Thor comes back next year for their extra year of eligibility?  Thor doesn't seem likely.  We were pretty good his freshmen year, but since then he has been on some pretty bad teams.  I'm not sure why he would want to stick around.

Kobe is interesting.  He's not going pro.  Is he working on a masters?  I could see him playing one more year and be another shooter off the bench.

That leaves us possibly 1 over the scholarship limit and I could see any of the following leaving:

Wood - last minute fill-in which rarely work out.  Remember this was supposed to be Kobe King

Arop - does not fit in any position, even in a "positionless" system

Yvan - quickly losing minutes to Andre

Shamiel - although, where would he go from here? 4th school in 5 years?

Teddy - wild card.  Will he try for the G league or overseas?

Banton - is he happy here?  Lately I can't tell...

Can anybody name the last year we didn't have a scholarship player transfer?  looking through rosters, I think it was 2004-05.

This leaves Trey, Lat, Derrick, Andre, and Lakes (he was supposed to sit this year anyways) as the "most likely to return" guys along with Bryce, Keisei, and Wilhelm.

It also seems like the coaches are recruiting for at least one more spot.  Will be an interesting off-season, as always.

Why do you think Lakes will be back?  Shamiel and Banton both will likely be back next year along with Lat, Derrick, Adre.  The rest on your list are all 50/50 on if they return.
