I'm not a charter member of this board, but I'm damn close. There are people I've met here who I consider very good friends. Whether it's lunch, or get togethers before Husker games, just know I cherish the time I've spent with all of you. One of my favorites is someone I've never met in person. His name is Tom Plotts. When he started posting, it was all left leaning. Of course, my posts are right leaning. Guess what? We gave each other shit and laughed about it. It's too long ago so it can't be found, but Norm joked about how Husker basketball could bring left and right together. He was right. I sure miss Norm's posts.... I want to thank everyone who contributed to tcp's cause last year. It truly touched his heart! I've pm'd Tom a couple times in the last few months. He always responds immediately. No reply. I assumed the worst, so, I reached out to the man I knew who could get an answer, HB, and he came through with an impeccable source. Tom Plotts passed away on 5-28-24. For the last several years, Tom and I talked on a regular basis. He was so proud of the work he was doing for veterans in front of the Oklahoma legislature. When he got the chance to go to DC, which you all were part of, he was so happy. I wish we could have won a game in the tourney last year. Oh well. Husker basketball and music brought Tom and me together. Music is a bond... That's why I do the video thing. RIP, mon frere!

One of my favorite things is seeing the regular avatars and screen names pop up around here each year. Knowing that despite all the craziness our lives each have, we all shared this one thing in common. We all kept coming back year after year. Some years we get our shins kicked, some years our nuts kicked, but we all endure together and are able to chat about it right here year after year. TCP was no different. I hope he rests in peace. I hope he rests in peace and puts in a good word with the big guy up stairs for Husker Basketball.

  3. I loved the Way Natalie Potts #22 played for Nebraska. Clearly this season she demonstrated being more assertive, more confidence and more leadership. IMO she was our best player. Let’s all hope for a complete recovery so this young woman can lead our future squads.

  4. In simple terms we now need to replace 14.5 pts and 7.5 boards per game. Not easy but we have a roster that may be able to produce the points. The rebounds are more problematic. Even more problematic is the lost interior d. We will frequently need more than one effective big on the floor against B1G competition to avoid being dominated inside. If so, Petrie, Hargrove and/or Bozan are key, plus a better Markowski. For that reason I’m just not convinced that 4 guards will cut it. Plus I’m not sure who the 4 guards would be anyway. Moriarty, Hake and Weidner (post-ops) may have a few good games but there is still no evidence that they can deliver consistently.

    It's Creighton Week

I’ve never understood the “brotherly love” between Husker fans and CU fans who say “I cheer for the other team outside of the once a year meeting” blah blah blah. CU fans can kick rocks and I wish they’d lose every single game they play. It’s a rivalry. We don’t have to wish them well outside of our game.

I don't like Creighton, or any sport they play, or their fans. I will never route for them no matter who they are playing. I don't like blue jays as a bird, they are natures a-holes.

  10. It's going to be even more painful this year with the football game the day after because there will be jayskers in my face shitting on Nebraska on Friday that will be in the trenches with me for the football game on Saturday. Screw all jayskers

Would you wear a Red Sox hat with a Yankee jersey while walking in the Bronx? Rationalizing your Jayskerness doesn't change anything. You're still a Jaysker. Pick a side of the rivalry and loathe the other, like us civilized folk.

  12. I’m going to have to disagree. First, they represent a quad 1 win opportunity. So that’s not like any other game on the schedule. Second, this game is Creighton’s red circle on the calendar game, and has been since the mid 90’s. And nebraska trying to downplay the rivalry and say it’s just another game is one reason why we get our butts kicked often. I guarantee you that Sam Griesel didn’t view it as no different than any other. And third, I’ve lived in Omaha my entire life as a diehard Husker hoops fan. I loathe the Jays. I loathe the sweater-vest and 3/4 zip wearing, snobby cu fans who make snide remarks the next day in the office. I’ve been putting up with it for over two decades as an adult. I hate that they developed into a relevant and nationally ranked program while their fans also cheer for 9 win seasons and bowl game appearances. I dislike that they built their program with a mixture of clean cut Korvers, Kalkbrenner, Dane Watts, and Grant Gibbs types countered by the P’Allen’s, Cavel Witters, Rodney Buford’s, and Mo’ Watson ilk. I loathe CU. I dislike Jayskers. I find them beyond annoying. I respect coach Mac as a coach but will never ever be a part of his plantation. Sorry to vent. I’m ready for Friday now. GBR!!!!

  13. They just don't know how to utilize him like we did. Honestly-- CJ was exactly what you hoped for in a role player. Knew his role, accepted it, excelled at it. He could have helped us this year.

  15. I don't think we go with a 4 guard rotation much. What Potts injury does is we see more Petrie and Hargrove mostly replacing Potts on the court. Some Coley as well. Bozan will need to play a larger role with giving Markowski time off the court. Plus we do not know how much Weidner will be giving us. We know from past remarks day to day can be a long time off the court. I hope to see her back in the next two or three games but we just don't know. We will need players to step up at this time because it will not be getting any easier.

  16. " Is it still early enough in the season that she could qualify for a medical redshirt for this season and then come back next year with 3 seasons of eligibility with NU? Apologies if that’s been discussed on here already." I tried to find out, but so many of the sites reached by my query skirted around the question - often confusing "redshirt" with "medical redshirt". I THINK the answer is that a medical redshirt can be awarded if the player has not played in more than 30% of the "permissible dates of competition". It's not clear to me if or if not this includes post regular season games, but since the regular season is well under 30% complete, it would appear that NP can get a medical hardship and therefore a 5th year. That's good and bad. Good bc she would actually GAIN some playing time. Bad bc we all have to wait a year to enjoy watching her play - and bc she may want to get on with her post collegiate life in less than five years. And that might include pro ball. This is my reference https://stanford_ftp.sidearmsports.com/custompages/Compliance/RedshirtsandMedicalHardships.pdf

  18. I really don’t hate Creighton. A significant portion of their fan base does annoy me though. My neighbors are perfect examples. Big NU football fans who are also big time Creighton fans. Thats cool, but they will always trash NU hoops. They don’t know anything about basketball but think they do. Love hopping in their luxury car and driving downtown every home game. They always try to talk to me about basketball. Good people, but with their basketball vapidity, I just don’t have the energy Creighton cares about basketball and it’s their bread and butter. They’ve had a good AD who has been able to build the model through Altman and Mac. Hope Nebraska shows up and plays hard Friday.

    The Injury

The amount of playing time has nothing to do with sustaining a major injury. We have seen over the years players play 35+ minutes for most of a season without having a major injury. With Allison we know what caused her first ACL injury. As I have read the chance of having a second ACL for women is higher than men. Allison second was in practice. I know I am looking forward to seeing Natalie on the floor next year.

    The Injury

Wow the timing of this in her career is so similar to that of Allison. Both during their Sophomore non conference season playing lights out following an outstanding freshman one. It's just crazy how many women suffer torn ACL'S playing WBB. I kind of understand a bit more why Amy plays as many players as she does. Three players on our bench with 5 five of these injuries.

  26. CJ will likely not be in their rotation once they get into conference play. Jamarques Lawrence is playing pretty well for Rhode Island. I do wish both of those guys were still on our roster. From what I can tell, Eli Rice is now suiting up for Penn State but is at the end of the bench. Got mop up duty against St. Francis and that’s about it.

  28. Sad news. May he rest in peace. Sometimes I ask myself if Nebraska basketball will ever win an NCAA Tournament game in my lifetime. I'm fairly young so I figure of course they will, especially if I live another 40-50-60 years. And then I think of all the Nebraska basketball fans who in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s probably said the same thing. And then I get depressed.

  34. Some things in life just suck. This is one of those things I’m heartbroken for Natalie, for her teammates, for her coaches, for all of us fans who passionately follow NU WBB. Friends, this is a gigantic sh*t sandwich and we’re all gonna have to take a bite. It’s like we’re cursed or something.

  35. Actually Moriarity is a three and finally playing like we all hoped she could. She is a very important piece going forward especially with the limited time Allison may get. One additional player we shouldn't forget about is Petra Bozan. She will become more valuable as the season progresses.

  36. To me the keyword was "couldn't" I think what happened was that Essigian checked into the game before the second free throw, and he did so before Meah. So I think what technically happened was Meah had to check in for Essigian which made Connor ineligible to come back in. I think this is a scenario that's so rarely happens that it didn't occur to Shon Morris on the broadcast

I live out state and have never hated Creighton. I enjoyed their success from the time of Red McManus and Paul Silas through Eddy Sutton , Tom Apke, Tony Barone, Dana Altman to the present. But I always am a Husker first. We need a win Friday afternoon and evening. To me, anything that brings attention to basketball in Nebraska is a good thing. I clearly understand the dismay of those of you who deal with Jayskers daily.

I have family members who do the same. But I never understood, and will never understand, the Creighton fans who'll root against Nebrasketball, then put on their Husker shirts for the football/volleyball/baseball games. And for that reason I've always hated everything about Creighton, and always will.

  40. I’ve been getting incessant texts from my Jaysker coworkers all day today. One sent a short video clip of Coach Hoiberg today calling out Jayskers and said “maybe if nebraska wasn’t so terrible at basketball there wouldn’t be Jayskers” Which means they only want to cheer on the bandwagon. I’ve been through seven levels of 2000-2024 nebrasketball hell folks. I’ve driven from Omaha to Lincoln hundreds of times and driven home dejected by crapping games away. I’ve seen 6500 at the Bob for years and watched us as we toiled under Collier and Doc - when Tim gave us a glimpse of what could be but couldn’t sustain. Never once did I say “it’d be easier for me to just cheer for Creighton because they win” but apparently some fans do…

  43. "so Petrie and Hargrove will be keys going forward." ..... So far I think I can see development/advancement in Petrie's play from last year. I really thought that Hargrove would adapt more quickly to D-1 play and perhaps she will but right now she doesn't seem able to contribute much. Her size and strength put her in a good position to contribute, but she needs to get confident and assert herself - as Hake as done. But i hope we don't wait a year for that to happen

My hatred of Creighton has waned a little bit now that I no longer live in Omaha and have moved out of state. I still get fired up for this game, but not as much since I don't have to listen to Jay and Jaysker fans chirp about their team incessantly. I want to win this game for the fans like you that are still living in enemy territory. You deserve a dub, my man. P.S. Grant Gibbs was a thug, and I am bothered by you putting him in the clean cut category. Wearing an accountant's hair cut doesn't change that fact.

  45. Long time listener, first time caller. As a Jays alum growing up in Nebraska, I promise I come in peace. I support both schools in all sports unless it's that one day where they meet. Certainly doesn't work out well for me during VB season! Couple of good points made here... - Believe me when I say the sweater vest wine and cheese crowd bothers most CU fans as well. As a resident of the upper deck often in sweatpants and a hoodie, the lower bowl can really suck the life out of the crowd. But their financial support over the years likely has a say as to where the Jays are as a program, so I guess we tolerate it. - Does CU circle this game every year? Yes and no. I'd say this year the Husker game is probably the 4th most anticipated home game. 1A and 1B are KU and UConn. I'd say Marquette is always pretty heated and exciting, and then Nebraska. Certianly gets fans in the seats, but I don't think we'll be making any "Beat Nebraska" buttons...maybe - For this game, it is interesting defensively. Nebraska loves to double and trap, which can often leave shooters open. St. Marys took advantage and if you look at last year, Scheierman took 19 threes, which is insane. I imagine they double Kalk and continue to trap baseline. It's a matter of if that will cause CU to panic or find the open man and make shots. - Jays defensively always funnel everything to Kalk down low. They force you to drive off of the 3 and take a tough 2. Huskers haven't exactly lit it up from 3 and the Jays 3-pt defense this year has been subpar, so that's something to watch. If Nebraska can hit a few 3s and some tough 2s in the paint, watch out. - Kalk often gets labeled as soft, but truth is he is just told not to foul and use his length to alter shots because when he comes out, the Jays are in trouble. Sometimes that works, and sometimes Derrick Walker torches him. Curious if Nebraska has a guy that will take on that challenge this year. Overall, it should be fun to watch. I'm thinking 78-71 but I could see either team coming out on top. Should be fun!

6'10" Blake Daberkow is playing for Idaho St after two years of juco. He was a teammate of Sam's at Pius X in Lincoln. Happen to see him when catching the end of the Idaho St - USC game that the Bengals almost pulled out. Probably doesn't project as a power 5 guy but maybe someone to monitor because of his height, ability to shoot 3s, and potential desire to play for his home town college.
